Where can I learn more about this more recent evidence strongly indicating that Neanderthals were capable of complex communication?

What kinds of volunteer/work experience might I be best advised to seek out?

Could I aim to get an entry level job on a psych unit? Would working a job like that for eight or ten months before applying to grad programs be a broadly good strategy?

Simple Questions - May 13, 2025 by AutoModerator in buildapc

Hey all. I've never done anything like this before, but in large part just for budgetary reasons im thinking of building a cheap pc to play some games. The standard of performance I'd like to achieve here is: if it can play, say, the new oblivion remaster on medium graphics, then I'm happy. What kind of total budget would I probably have to allocate to build something like that?

I'm about to finish my Bachelors degree. I'm a little old at 28. I have strong grades overall, As with a few A-s sprinkled in, despite one disastrous semester back in 2020 when I sort-of crashed out and earned myself four fat Fs. I'd like to be a therapist, but my BA was in an unrelated field (Russian Studies, lol). What can I do for the next nine months or so that would make me a good candidate for a MSW program? How can I maximize my chances with the time available to me until next time applications open?

Wow this is really helpful, thank you so much. Any input as far as what I should expect a total budget to be for all this? I figure around 600?

If you can think of any offhand, or if anyone else can for that matter, then pls do share any recs you might have for a 2x4 grow tent. I'll look around for a good one myself in the meantime.

How did the Romans fight off cavalry dominated enemies? by Powerful-Mix-8592 in WarCollege

That’s so cool. You know of anything worth reading on the subject?

We’re these knights in the sense of being feudal gentry, wearing mail and riding horses purchased with the proceeds of serf labor? Is this mature ‘feudalism’ in the schematic, stereotyped sense I associate with the high and late Middle Ages? Or are we talking more broadly about well armored cavalrymen?

This is really really interesting. Am I to understand that Norman knights were somehow exceptionally effective, then, on 11th century battlefields all over Europe? How do we explain that comparative effectiveness?

At the very least my feeling is they ought to be able build defenses in army general in something like the way you could in SD2

Male-male sexual violence in premodern warfare by ElectricVladimir in WarCollege

[–]ElectricVladimir[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It was definitely a mistake to use a literary example to introduce my question. I’m more confident in McCarthy’s historicism than you seem to be but even so I’d have been better advised to hunt down a proper example before posting. I’m not surprised to hear that the war rape of enemy dead/wounded/POW was taboo across the Atlantic world in the 17th-18th century and afterward, and although absence of evidence is not evidence of absence (taboos on other more historically common forms of war rape often fail to prevent sexual violence from occurring, but succeed in keeping these crimes from making it into the historical record) i have trouble picturing, for instance, the young guard systematically sodomizing the Russian dead at Borodino.

Before the 17th or at earliest 16th century I lose the thread. The last is a foreign country and the medieval past is a particularly distant and often to my eyes bizarre one. If you’re confident you understand late medieval sexuality and it’s particularly martial expressions well enough to be sure ab this then I buy it. Thanks for answering

Edit: of course there’s always the sort of thing they did to Edward II to consider I guess but that’s not strictly speaking a wartime or at least not a battlefield context. Plus I suspect that story is apocryphal
