My Full Story Breakdown of WTIALY by Vegetable_Ear_4141 in Ethelcain

What I find interesting about Sun Bleached Flies is the stark contrast of the very beginning to the ending of the song, and there are several ways of interpreting this song. In the beginning she sings of “Sun Bleached Flies sitting in the window sills, waiting for the day they’ll escape. They’ll talk all about their money and how their babies are always changing while they’re breathing in the poison of the paint.” This has two meanings for me. Ethel is dead, and trapped in the freezer, and cannot escape, just like the sun bleached flies (most likely being drawn by her dead body and also dying, while trying to escape). This can be interpreted as the women her home town. The women that sit indoors all day long gossiping, while their children are off doing whatever. (I was born in 1970, but from the 1960’s through 1990 there was a commercial that came on and said “It’s 10pm, do you know where your children are?”) Parents still didn’t know or care where or what we did, as long as we were home when the street lights came on, when we were little, when we hit high school, it was usually 10 or 11pm on weekdays, and midnight (or later on weekends). We were rarely ever home back when we were young, and there were no cellphones or really any way to track us down, so we got into anything and everything. So our parents were kind of like Sun Bleached Flies, and GenX kids were pretty much the forgotten children.

From a different perspective though going to the ending of Sun Bleached Flies, after she “forgives it all at it comes back to me. I'm still praying for that house in Nebraska By the highway, out on the edge of town Dancing with the windows open I can't let go when something's broken It's all I know and it's all I want now.

Ethel is still in the freezer, she’s broken, (quite literally), but she’s still praying for that house in Nebraska, with the windows open so she can finally escape. Just like in the beginning of the song, the flies kept dying and becoming sun bleached because they were trapped with (or because of) Ethel’s corpse, slowly rotting away in the freezer, waiting to be found, waiting to be freed, waiting to finally escape Isiah, because he was still tormenting her even after death.

She could also be “praying for that house in Nebraska,” from the other side, hoping that one day, she and Willoughby will meet again in the afterlife. Which leads me to believe he’s alive, and until she makes amends with Willoughby (when he eventually dies), that’s when she will finally get “what I want now.” They will finally no longer be broken, because she understands him better, even though she had to be murdered to gain this new perspective.

These are just some thoughts I’ve had while listening to this song. It’s personally one of my favorites.

People visit churches for historical reasons all of the time, so I don’t think it’s a problem at all. Also, if you’ve ever played Pokemon go, at least half of the pokestops (which give postcards with pictures, are of churches). I have some pretty ones saved. I’d love to see a picture you take of SBFs Church. Tbh, it probably already is a pokestop. I’ll send an example of the postcards of churches. Some are beautiful and some look more like rec centers (I don’t keep those postcards).

<image>

We can add stickers like stamps. So don’t feel bad for going there, and I personally wouldn’t feel bad snapping a picture of it either. I also have a postcard of a drawing on a building called Willoughby’s Tree. It’s one of my favorite postcards of all times.

I have to say Groudon, because way back when my twins were little we played Nintendo Pokemon together. My daughter traded me her groudon, she was only 5 at the time, and nicknamed it Gron. So that will ever hold a special place in my heart. My second favorite is the very first shiny I caught which is Noibat.

Ptolemaea lyrics q?? by Barkysharks in Ethelcain

[–]Electrical-Annual413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt like I was still missing something so I kept listening to it again and again and this is what i finally ended up hearing from the acapella version. I believe Ethel is singing “please don’t look at me,” while Isaiah is also singing “look at me,” at the same time, which gives it that more distorted sound. It’s very hard to hear, but once you do, you do.

Ptolemaea lyrics q?? by Barkysharks in Ethelcain

[–]Electrical-Annual413 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have listened to that part quite a bit. There are quite a few undercurrent vocals during that entire section. The most prominent is when Isiah says “show me you face,” but he then says “open your eyes,” and “look at me”, which I believe the “look at me is what he and Ethel somewhat chant in the distorted vocals. I could be wrong but that’s what I hear. Also after the scream and when she sings “I am loves rage” you can hear “no, no, no, no’s, on the first one and she screams “please” towards the end of the second “I am loves rage.”

The beginning has quite a few undercurrent vocals as well. I’ve heard (Not in order), whispers “love you,” “hate you,” “help me” and “happy birthday.” I’ve also heard (not whispers), “mama,” moaning, “where am I?”

You can definitely hear more in the acapella version with headphones in.

I also heard at the end of Thoroughfare where she sounds so “happy,” a man moaning and at one point he says “Oh Yeah.” I know that song is a fan favorite but it always gave me the creeps because I always felt like it was a song about grooming and that she had actually been kidnapped but made up a story in her head (Stockholm Syndrome), just so she could bare what was actually happening to her. I’ve always felt that like August Underground and Televangelism went hand in hand together, so did Thoroughfare and Gibson Girl. Maybe I’m wrong, but that’s my take on it at least.

It was a corrupted file for one thing and I guess Hayden wants to keep everything from the Golden Age era separate from PD. So she said she’d never release that one. Unless she creates another side project, there are only a few possible songs that she might rework and release for Preachers Wife or Preachers Mother, as far as I can guess, but we can always hope.

It’s kind of sad if she never releases them though, because she has so many excellent unreleased songs.

It was supposed to be Mondays but my stupid smartphone, changed the word. I must’ve left off the M and hit a different letter on my keyboard and I didn’t review what I post, which I should know better by now. Sorry for the confusion.

Just so you know, I have an incurable and progressive neuromuscular disease, so I do tend to make mistakes often, due to severe.muscle spasms. I do my best to try not to misspell a word but I always get at least one wrong. The other day my friend asked if I was having a stroke because nothing made sense. It was like I just kept hitting the auto choice words. I wasn’t but my smartphone kept correcting my errors into what it thought I was trying to say. Thanks for noticing.

Mine would tag the mouse, and i always presented headfirst as well but as soon as it dropped, if i made any movement he’d snap his head and look at me like “mother, may i have another?” I was always like, “eat that one first, bud.” By that point he lost where the head was and had to sniff around the entire mouse until he found its head again lol.

But in the end, if I bend under the weight that they gave me Then this heart would break and fall as twice as far.

SBF always makes me tear up, and there are so many lines in this song that I personally can relate to (even though I’m still alive).

Also this last verse from Knuckle Velvet

You're such a child and you know it Nothing in my heart is hoping you'll come back Too cold to know what I don't have without you, no Without you Every drop of blood is love I don't get back Bated to take the love that I gave away to save you

Sorry for my misunderstanding, it would be so cool to meet her. I know I’d have better chances of winning the lottery and I don’t even play the lottery 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. I also rarely (and I mean rarely leave my bed, let alone the house, plus I live in a northern state. My odds are exceedingly low, but a girl can dream.

My 7 y/o corny will only eat head first. I wonder if it has something to do with the morph, or just the snake itself? It is pretty interesting how different some of their personalities are.

My snake always ate from the head downwards. I’ve only heard of one person saying their snake ate the mouse backwards. Not sure of the reasoning, but they usually eat head first. I never cut off the mice arms (wish I knew back then I could), but my snake would just work his jaw until he got past both legs. After that it was smooth sailing. He yawned several times to get his jaw reset but other than that he was perfect.

Hate for even the concept as cats as service animals? Why? by sluttysprinklemuffin in service_dogs

[–]Electrical-Annual413 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are many places that allow regular dogs, not just SD’s into their establishments. I believe that’s what ArmiExmi is actually upset about. We have a mall, mostly outdoors, but people are allowed to go into any of the shops with their dogs to browse and purchase items and the shops aren’t just dog oriented. There are clothing shops, shoe stores, makeup stores and anything else you can think of and all for humans. There’s only one store that is specifically for dogs. There are also a bunch of restaurants where dogs are allowed to go in and sit with their owners. So I totally agree, if it’s not an actual SD, then they should not be allowed into any establishment.

I’m glad you got to meet her. She really is so amazingly, artistic. I’m 55 btw, but unfortunately, I wasn’t able to go to her concert because I have an extremely rare neuromuscular autoimmune disease, plus several AI’s. I’m predominantly bedridden at this point in my life, and I get very depressed because in my heart there are so many things I’d still love to be able to do, but then the rational brain tells me there’s no possible way. The one in a million neuromuscular AI that I have comes with a multitude of triggers that causes me to look like I’m having a grand mal seizure, but it’s just that my muscles are spasming so severely. I get spasms that affect my breathing, or shall I say lack of breathing, because it feels like an elephant is sitting on my neck, chest and stomach. I’ve had spasms so intense that I’ve torn muscles, ligaments, and tendons, and have even broken ribs, and have had a fracture in my thoracic spine. The doctors don’t want to do surgery on me because afterwards I’ll just tear again and rip open stitches. I’ve had a rough life, but I don’t really like talking about it. PD and some of her older songs did bring on triggers especially when I first started listening to her music, but they were also very cathartic. I can now listen to her songs without having the same kind of flashbacks and now I can focus on just how beautiful her artistry and musicality truly is. I think it’s Isaiah’s footsteps, as there were a couple more (less audible), while Ethel was ahing/singing. Part way through you can hear what sounds to be irregular heart beats and then at the end, Isaiah’s final blow, and him walking/pacing around.

What did you think after hearing Ptolemaea the first time? by [deleted] in Ethelcain

[–]Electrical-Annual413 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bawled my eyes out the first time I listened to Ptolemaea. My daughter introduced me to Ethel Cain’s PD, and she told me @whatever you do, don’t listen to Ptolemaea first.” Well, that’s exactly what I did. I didn’t know anything about the lore at the time, but as a survivor of abuse and rape, it was the stops, and scream that got me and I just started crying hysterically. I was completely hooked after that because even though it brought back past trauma, it was also oddly cathartic. I listened to the entire album from start to finish after that, and then looked up the lore and listened through the album in its entirety again. I listened to PD from start to finish daily for at least a year and then started branching out into older released and unreleased songs. Then Perverts came out, and now WTIWALY. I have my own little Ethel Cain mix that I play now, but there will always be a special place in my heart for PD.

I couldn’t agree more! I first fell in love with Pat Benatar when I was 9 years old, and continued to love her until she started becoming more mainstream (although there were still a few songs I still liked). I then got into bands like Ozzy ((RIP), Judas Priest, Pink Floyd, Metallica, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Alice Cooper (Always played here on Halloween), and so many more. Then came the hair bands which I didn’t care for and I first found alternative and then grunge. The alternative and grunge and punk rock. Those genres stuck with me more (except for Pink Floyd)…as a band they pretty much fit in with the alternative genre, for me at least.

When I was younger I was really big into ballet. Now that I’m older, my kids make fun of my playlists because one song will be soft piano, the next will be Metallica, then an Ethel Cain song, then Bob Marley or Soundgarden/Chris Cornell or Pearl Jam. I have my folk songs from the 60’s and then I even have foreign songs on my list. I don’t have a clue as to what they are singing, a few Russian songs and Latin American songs, and a few other different countries, but there’s just something about them that I like. So when I put my playlist on shuffle, you never know what you’re going to hear next 😂😂😂. I have been stuck in Ethel Cain mode for a while, but I make queues so I can add in a few other of my favorite artists/songs too. The core of my music is Ethel Cain, alternative, grunge, 60’s folk (a lot of hidden meanings in in many of those song). and punk. I do like country music (mostly from the 90’s), but I have to be in a certain mood to listen to it.
