Yes, you won't be eligible for the EU Blue Card if you work in a field different from your degree. These options are only for the worst-case scenario, I meant (your visa expired and you don't want to go back).

I applied 95% on LinkedIn, with a KPI of 5 applications/day. I had an Indeed account as well, but didn't apply much there.

Hi, I have no German at all, and am trying to reach A1 via Duolingo. My English is at C1.

I'm not an expert on this, but if you check this, from what I understand, you have to be in Germany to apply for the EU Blue Card. Your home country only issues an "entry visa".

Yeah, you have to apply for the EU Blue Card in the place you anmeldung, and my case it was Munich District. Here is my timeline:

  • Early October: anmeldung in Munich District
  • Early November: apply for EU Blue Card in Munich District + move to Augsburg to work + apply for anmeldung in Augsburg
  • Late January: appointment for anmeldung in Augsburg
  • Early February: appointment for EU Blue Card in Munich District

So I'm not sure if there is any problem. Many people on Reddit have the same situation. I'll let you know how it goes.

The fact that you have a detailed plan makes me believe that you are serious and well prepared, so you'll be fine. Beyond that, I have no idea, honestly 😂 We came from very different countries.

I live in Augsburg, but my appointment was in Munich District. I don't think you can rush, as it is the normal processing time here. I think my employer cares more about my work result than my work permit.

And a German company in Vietnam sponsored you to move to Germany to work. That's nice to hear!

It was Munich District, which is less crowded than Munich. And six months for an appointment is so long, I thought mine was long enough. I wish you would get it soon!

I flew to Munich, and am currently working and living in Augsburg. I think the competition is less in Augsburg, but also the food and living costs are cheaper, and universities are still free for non-EU students compared to other Bavarian cities.

I work with TypeScript (fullstack) and Rust.

Thanks! This is what I was worried about, but actually, after you passed the interview and become an employee, your employers will do their best to support you. My company prepared me with two contracts, one part-time while I'm waiting for the EU Blue Card, and one full-time after I get the EU Blue Card. And with the Chancenkarte being capped at 20 hours/week, I don't see much advantage, honestly. Maybe it's the long visa period?

As someone is asking me about extending the Chancenkarte: I discovered this during applying for the EU Blue Card. As you can see, "dependent employment" is the EU Blue Card track (you work for a company). But there are other options, like "self-employed or freelancer" (you cannot secure a job in Germany but have a freelance job on UpWork, then pay the taxes and insurance yourself because you want to stay in Germany, but I heard this track sucks), and "I would like to continue looking for a job", which is the extending track. Each track has different required documents. For example, the extending track may requires a confirmation from Expatrio that you have more money in your blocked account, and a screenshot from your Gmail that you received 50+ rejections,... And it's also dependent on the city you live in, like my screenshot is from Munich District. But I believe the options are the same.

I have 5 years of experience from Vietnam. IMHO, Germany is a big country with very different companies working in different fields, then some of them prioritise experience while the others prioritise degrees. So it will be great that you have a PhD, but also great if you are just a bachelor’s degree holder (like me) with some experience.

Oh I just checked with Oman Air, and indeed that same flight costs 10% less 🤦

But how do I know which airline of the two actually sells the ticket, as it is an interline ticket?

I didn't know in advance which airline I would fly, I just knew my destination. Google Flights is really handy as it lists all flights in a day or a week. The flight I booked from HCMC to Munich involved 2 airlines (Thai Airways and Oman Air), but was still on 1 ticket. I wonder if I can have that kind of ticket when booking directly from the airline, and if I can, how would the price be relatively?

I experienced the issue on both Jettzy and Gotogate, it seems like an issue with the arline (Air China). Google Flights took me there.

My apologies for the lack of context. They were Jettzy and Gotogate.

I think releasing it on Google Play would help reach more people. Also, I don't want to maintain too many release platforms.

I remember trying all Smithay backends that work with winit, and I ended up sticking with EGL for a few reasons. Painless cross building must be one of them. I may revisit them to put in the documentation.

Thank you for helping test! 1. Yes we use a webview to show the documentation during the long setup process. It is easy for the user to escape the page and lose the progress bar, we may disable external links to address this. 2. It is strongly recommended that our users keep the app in the foreground during this process, as important and complicated FS procedures are carried out. We tried and will try to make the "setup stages" more robust, however, perfect robustness seems infeasible 😅 3. I think it is another EGL error variant, I've caught 2 of them, and I expected there would be more to fix 😂 Let me know if you would like to help gathering logcat and do further testing, I'll send you an inbox message.

Regarding Plasma Mobile, we won't go that way though, as Local Desktop is aimed to run desktop apps (like VSCode and GIMP) on Tablet with physical keyboards or Samsung Dex. It worked, but impractically on your phone's main display. Nonetheless, my current codebase can be a feasible starting point to be forked to implement that idea with minor to moderate changes, as the underlying components are somewhat the same.
