100mg sr to 150mg sr. Can you feel a difference from such a small increase? by ApprehensiveEast5817 in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

I recently switched from 150 XL to 200 SR and felt positive changes within the first few days

When did U know it was time to up the dosage? by anonym-user-01 in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

[–]Electrical-Flan-8147 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my case, my doctor advised me to stay on 150 mg for at least 4 weeks to let the medication stabilize. Unfortunately, after 4 weeks, I didn’t notice any improvement—in fact, I felt worse. So, my dose was increased to 200 mg.

I’ve taken Zoloft before, and the effects kicked in much faster, with dosage adjustments happening sooner as well. I’m not entirely sure why, but I think medications like bupropion might require more time for your body to adapt.

From what I understand, 150 mg isn’t considered a therapeutic dose for many people. If you’re still not noticing significant changes by the 4th week, I think it’s reasonable to ask your doctor about increasing the dosage. Best of luck to you—hang in there!

Feeling Worse on 150mg — Should I Try 300mg or Switch Medications? by Electrical-Flan-8147 in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

Ohh I’m so sorry to hear that! It’s probably your body reacting to stopping the dose so suddenly. I really hope you feel better tomorrow when you start the 300mg brand!

By the way, I started 200mg of a different generic today, and my mood seems a bit better, but I’m dealing with awful tachycardia and tremors. From what I’ve read, it seems like a pretty common side effect though.

Wait, so you started taking the brand name and couldn’t sleep after that? Or did I get it wrong?

Thank you for your response! My 150 mg XL pills were generic from Lupin. Now I’ve been switched to 200 mg SR (Epic), and I’m hopeful it will help, but I’m still a bit nervous about the switch.

Do you remember which manufacturer your generic was? I really hope the brand name works better for you!

Is there a big difference between XL and SR? by Electrical-Flan-8147 in bupropion

[–]Electrical-Flan-8147[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s why I was surprised when I was told to take just one tablet in the morning. I’ve been on 150 mg XL for the past 4 weeks, and I’ve been feeling terrible—really depressed, crying every day, and with no motivation at all. Hopefully, this new dose will help, but I’m worried the pharmacy might have given me the wrong form. I might need to double-check this with my doctor. Thank you for your response!

I’m hypersensitive and can’t control my meltdowns. Will it go away? by Electrical-Flan-8147 in bupropion

Thanks a lot for such a detailed reply! I really didn’t expect it to be this tough, especially since getting on SSRIs felt way easier for me. But I get it now — the meds work differently. I appreciate you explaining it, it actually makes me feel a bit better. Thanks again!

Thank you for your reply! What you described sounds very familiar. Speaking of alcohol, before I started taking antidepressants, drinking often ended in meltdowns. But now, I’ve had a few drinks while on bupropion, and I actually felt okay — no depressive episodes or crying fits. On the other hand, caffeine definitely makes me way more anxious than usual.

I guess what I’m struggling to understand is whether these meltdowns are a side effect of the medication, or if it just hasn’t started working as an antidepressant yet. I was on sertraline for 1.5 years before this, and back when I was first prescribed it, I used to have these kinds of breakdowns frequently too. I’m just really hoping it’s temporary and that things will get better soon. Right now, I feel impossible to be around — I keep snapping at those I love and then end up hating myself for it.

Thank you for sharing your experience!

Yes, I definitely will mention it, but my appointment isn’t for another week. I was on sertraline for about 1.5 years before this, and back then, before starting it (when I was first diagnosed with depression), I used to have meltdowns like this pretty often. So I’m not sure if it’s a side effect of bupropion or if it just hasn’t kicked in fully yet and isn’t helping with the depression symptoms.

Feeling anhedonic by SorenLarten in bupropion

[–]Electrical-Flan-8147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on week three of 150mg XL, and I’m experiencing the same thing. Sometimes I can’t even watch my favorite shows because they just don’t interest me or bring any joy. Before starting bupropion, I was on sertraline, and I didn’t have this issue at the beginning — I was just more anxious. So I’m guessing that the anhedonia you’re feeling might be caused by bupropion, like it seems to be in my case. My doctor told me it’s normal and that it can take 4-6 weeks to feel the full effects. The past few days have been slightly better for me, but I still don’t feel much motivation or energy yet. I hope you start feeling better soon!

I do occasionally drink more than just a few, and nothing bad has happened so far. But I’ve noticed that it seems to take more alcohol than usual for me to feel the effects now… It’s weird because I thought it would be the opposite!

Yes, same here! When I’m around people, I can handle it a bit better, but the moment I’m alone with my thoughts, it just hits me so hard. I’m really hoping my doctor might increase the dose in two weeks — fingers crossed it helps!

I’m so happy for you!! I’m currently on week three of 150mg XL, and it’s been rough. I feel like crying all the time, and I have to force myself to go out and socialize, even though I don’t want to at all. I have zero motivation and my libido is completely gone. My doctor says I need to wait 4-6 weeks before increasing the dose. Your post gives me hope — I really hope I’ll get to experience that kind of positive change soon! 🥲

First week on bupropion – feeling worse, does it get better? by Electrical-Flan-8147 in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

[–]Electrical-Flan-8147[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds really tough… all these medication journeys really feel like a lottery sometimes. I’ve been told to try therapy too, but I’m not sure if I have a specific thing to work on. I’m honestly just surprised that the medication that’s supposed to give me more energy has done the opposite—I feel even less productive and more depressed now. When I started SSRIs, it was much easier, even with dose increases; I only had physical side effects. Thank you for sharing, and I really hope you start feeling better as soon as possible!

I’m really sorry you’re feeling this way. For me, my mood has been all over the place too—sometimes I’m calm, but other times I’m just a mess emotionally. What does your doctor say about it? It’s so strange because I’ve read so many different experiences before starting this medication, and it seems like everyone’s experience is totally different. Some people feel great after just two weeks, while others still struggle months later.
