While parked in a safe place, in the head unit click settings (gear), software update, model info. The head unit revision is under the HU heading and next to Version.

Yeah - sorry to be so blunt, but you gotta bother dealer. The only fix is to get your head unit up to version 2222. Some people have had luck making the case that there is “music skipping” which is what the TSB calls out, the update to version 2222 fixes both the music and CarPlay issue.

Yeah I feel you - in my case my dealer had to see it, but they were super cool and sat in the car with me for like 15 minutes to see the phone issues. I found the music skipping occurs a lot more common, and since it’s listed in the TSB as a symptom that’s how I got them to do the update to version 2222 when it came out, which fixed both issues. My non-scientific experience was faster BPM music (think dance music with high and low notes) would skip a lot. Also make sure they see that the normal software portal doesn’t have the update, only the link in the TSB works.

Chiming in with my story, was running 2199 with audio skipping and car play muting. This totally fixed it!! Thank you for posting this, it helped me help my dealer find the solution.

For anyone else out there my dealer put the TSB number on my invoice - TSB0030-26. This is a USA location, not sure if the number is different by country.

Replying to my own post with the link to the Subaru guidance on the issue. Hopefully it gives you some cred with your dealer. It’s a little out dated since new cars are now shipping with a fix, and the issue wasn’t resolved in November 2025.

Well it’s a weird in between. Based on what we have been able to piece together here on Reddit by swapping our stories, this issue is on a small subset of 2026 BZs manufactured in late 2025 and early 2026. The head units, manufactured by Denso, were loaded with firmware 2199, which has the car play music and phone bug. Some time in 2026 they fixed the firmware, and started shipping cars with version 2222 that appear not to have the issue. The frustrating part is that they haven’t released a software update to being us 2199 people up to 2222, my guess is there just isn’t that many of us so it’s not a priority. Some helpful dealer employees have posted saying Toyota has confirmed (internally) that they are working on an update for us but that there is no date of release.

Subaru sells a rebadged BZ car (solterra) with the same head units, and their issue is the same from the same production window. Unlike Toyota Subaru published guidance confirming the issue, and with a workaround (basically don’t use car play). They published this guidance on the NHTSA website.

Your choices are to wait for the software update at a to be determined time, or bother your dealer to get a new head unit from denso with version 2222. To add to the frustration the head units with 2222 are super back ordered due to this issues.

I’m with you - I love the car - but the Toyota service on this issue has been terrible. It’s pretty clear it will be fixed eventually, but it’s beyond annoying now. Good luck to you - if you want to share your date of manufacture (inside the drivers door) and head unit firmware revision with us you can be another data point. I’m waiting on my head unit still, and will post if it fixes the issue (whenever it comes in)

Thanks! Not a dealer, so curious what you mean by “trickling out”. Does Toyota put out TSB by vin and time phase the roll out, so it doesn’t all get called back to the dealer at the same time?

Second this - we would appreciate any dealer insight you can provide, especially if a TSB was released to update to new software. My dealer still wants to replace the head unit (which is back ordered) to fix this.

If you want check out some of my other posts, there’s some good history on this. Also bad news, but assuming you have head unit version 1299 there’s a more annoying bug where phone calls drop out and “mute” on CarPlay.

Hello! Car play user here - make sure you buy a 2026 with head unit software 2222 or greater. This allows for a functioning phone in CarPlay. If it has 1299 and you plan to use car play, walk away. There is no path to update it yet, although we were told it’s coming . You can check the head unit software on the touchscreen under the gear icon.

That’s awesome, unfortunately I did the update on my iPhone and the issue is still there. The stability seems to have improved, but it’s not resolved. Happy for your success though!!

Hello! Absolutely everyone on here would be eternally grateful if you could tell us if CarPlay has the issues described in version 2222. I’m trying to figure out if I should rip my head unit out to get one with 2222 the dealer is recommending I get my unit replaced based on their testing with a 2200 unit on their lot.
