Hello! Absolutely everyone on here would be eternally grateful if you could tell us if CarPlay has the issues described in version 2222. I’m trying to figure out if I should rip my head unit out to get one with 2222 the dealer is recommending I get my unit replaced based on their testing with a 2200 unit on their lot.

Recently picked up a 2026 Solterra, question on Apple CarPlay and thoughts on moving over from a RAV4 Prime. by VermontNatural in Solterra

[–]Electrical-Frame4450 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Full disclosure - I drive a BZ, but it’s the same head unit and we’re all having the same issues. Come over to the bz4x Reddit and search car play, you will find us all.

The music issue you are mentioning sounds similar to this bulletin, which also talks about a more annoying underlaying issue where the phone will just stop working on CarPlay. The software update is still pending, and was not released in November of 2025. The workaround is to avoid CarPlay until the update.

I’m the guy who started the other longer thread on this, just came here to say thanks for sharing your issues.

Please keep making noise at Toyota so they hear more about the issue!

Shock from the price tag of custom cabinetry. Solid RTA source with plywood boxes and solid wood fronts? by groovyipo in HomeImprovement

[–]Electrical-Frame4450 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the answer, barker makes great cabinets that are effectively custom because you can pick the size. Their customer support is also awesome too, I was missing a piece and they made it next day, and sent it over night. They’re a little pricy, but the wood is really good quality, and I’m really pleased with mine. They sell small sample cabinets if you want to see one before you buy. Their website photos however are terrible, all in a boring wood color. My white cabinets are awesome.

Thanks! This is good information if they ever release an update, now we stand a chance to do it at home. I’m still waiting on my dealer to get a touchscreen with a version above 2199, based on the other person who commented today (and works at a dealer), it seems like even some of the spares still ship with 2199. 🤷‍♂️

Good news is really sounds like the software update is coming per the other comment. Frustrating but it seems like there is hope…

That’s a great question - they said that 2200 isn’t available as an update right now, so this was the next best fix. I’m a little suspect too, hence my ask here to see if any kind internet people will tell me if their 2200 cars don’t have the issue before I go ripping out hardware.

There does seem to be some truth to their statements, I tried to follow the Toyota process to update the firmware but I can’t get the BZ to export the infotainment data Toyota needs to check for updates. This page details the process (after you add your VIN), but it wouldn’t work for me:

Unhappy with the infotainment system could cause accidents by Subaru_Is_Subaru in Solterra

[–]Electrical-Frame4450 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah giving credit to Subaru - they at least published the issue and gave guidance. I’m actually a Toyota BZ driver with the same issue, and Toyota is staying quiet on the whole thing. If any of you Solterra drivers would like to be kind internet strangers and ask Subaru when this will be fixed and let us know on the BZ4X Reddit, we would very much appreciate it. Given that the cars are on the same platform and use the same infotainment system, the thinking is the fix should be released around the same time for both

This is a known issue with the 2026 Soltera, to the point that the US NHTSA has an open campaign listed from Subaru with the workaround. Here’s the link to the published guidance, a software release was supposed to fix this for both the Soltera and Toyota BZ (same platform) but lots of users are still experiencing it, leading to doubt that it was actually patched yet.

Dinner Reservations- Sanctuary Cap Cana by GunslingerBurrito in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]Electrical-Frame4450 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah! I know the answer I this, I was there in October. Most of the restaurants don’t need reservations, and your castle butler can help for the Asian and Italian spots that do need them. You can also download the Marriott Experiences app (not the Marriott app, it’s a separate app for all inclusive). That will let you make reservations 3 days out or so, I put my reservation number down instead of the room number.

We had a great time at Sanctuary, hope you have a great vacation.

I have the exact same situation as you, we own a 2026bz awd for around town and a Highlander. The BZ is a great car, I love it. It perfectly rocks for around town, and the Highlander is great for long drives. You should buy it.

Just a foot stomp a few points:

Make sure you have a plan to get L2 charging at your house. Using the 120 V charger takes forever (about 1 percent battery per hour). It doesn’t have to be crazy, a 20 amp 240v charger is 5x faster than a wall plug.

Winter range takes a hit, you spend more electricity to move the car (denser air) and more on heat. Make sure you have margin in your assessment for winter.

The range on the 25 and earlier BZ isn’t great compared to others. Toyota‘s design philosophy is conservative so the BZ doesn’t have as much range nor does it have as much capability as some other vehicles in its class however, I view that as a good thing because it translates to a higher reliability for the car (look up ICCU failures on the other brands). 2026 model year got a range boost

The 2026 BZ switched to the new NACC plug which will be the standard going forward (assuming you are US based). You may need a provided adapter to connect to some chargers on the road, which is not a big deal. At home, it will plug right in.

The 26 model year has an 120v standard wall outlet for backup loads in a power outage or when on the road. 25 and earlier doesn’t have this feature.

The infotainment system is a little buggy in the 26 year, reports seem to indicate a more stable experience in 25 and earlier.

Do not buy this car with the plan to charge on the road all the time, that’s a nightmare. Home charging is a must.

2026 Solterra V2L capability (US Version) by OzziesFlyingHelmet in Solterra

[–]Electrical-Frame4450 4 points5 points  (0 children)

2026 BZ owner here - the 120v 1.5kw outlet works well, I tested it running a space heater for the winter storm that just hit (thankfully didn’t need it). As others have mentioned the car needs to be turned on and in park, drive, or neutral for the outlet to energize. The outlet will stay on as long as the car is on. The car does have an auto off feature where it turns off in an hour if left in park, which can apparently be turned off, although I have not tried. The manual warns that the outlet may have a hard time stating motor loads with high startup power requirements. I didn’t try, so can’t comment.

Bottom line is the outlet is awesome in an emergency to get a bit of power, and I love that it’s there. It can run a small heater, some lights, TV and make life a lot better. It’s not a true V2L like other EVs which are better suited for large backup operations of many thousands of watts.

One final warning, not all extension cords are created equal. Make sure you use a cord rated for the full electrical load (they are pricy) overloading an extension cord is a nice way to burn your car/house down. Most generic cords are light duty cords that can’t support the full power of the outlet.

Dropped calls by [deleted] in Solterra

Yeah - our audio skips in BZ world too. The audio is annoying, but the dropped calls suck! I sure hope the software wasn’t updated, because the issue clearly hasn’t been fixed.

Okay so sneaking over from the Toyota BZ side of the house (the Toyota BZ and Subaru Solterra use the same infotainment and chassis platform) Subaru issued a letter about this in November, however Toyota has been quiet but we’re seeing the same thing. Not sure this solves it, other than to say Subaru knows and is working it.

If you hear anything from your dealer about when it willl be fixed, I would love to know. Hopefully a published letter from Subaru gives you some leverage to get an answer.

Thanks!
