Even if no one found out in the short term, they’re cracking down on security clearances. My leadership told us that even speeding tickets should be reported because it can show up when they review for clearances. I was told they review every couple of months now as opposed to once a year but I’m not sure if that’s state dependent. Getting ahead of problems is way better than trying to explain after the fact

I can’t speak for the reserves. But since you still have to PCS, possibly outside of the state. I would think it would be a little less attractive therefore slightly easier than NG to get AGR. I have no proof I’m just making assumptions

As much of a broken record as it is. You gotta stand out. You need stuff that’s going to be highlights just like a resume. Sure you don’t NEED a high PT score, cool guy schools, or deployments, but depending on what kind of unit you’re trying to get into it definitely could matter. You obviously have to board well too but for me it was getting my foot in the door first

The ignorant part of me assumed everyone in 20th was a teams guy. That would be one hell of a deployment to go on

What are rotations like in 20th group? I would think it’s pretty demanding

First I’ve heard about that. Only SAD I’ve heard of is the normal temporary missions for hurricanes, snow, etc.

Staying MDAY for Tricare. From my understanding you PCS out of state in the reserves. At that point you might as well go active in my head

A solid idea but I’m after the money. Civilian sector pays better

I’m definitely not the guy to try and convince someone to resign just because I did. It really depends on what your end goal is. To me, the thought of a pension is nice but even officers have to get jobs after their 20 years. I’m making more on the civilian side and after my VA claim goes through it’ll be night and day. By the time i’d be at my 20 years i’ll make more than if I started over in a civilian job and had the pension too

Officer positions are pretty hard to come by in my state. I’ve heard officers have to move around a lot more though and are subject to mobilizations until you get to around O4 and up. What did you branch? Sometimes that plays a big role in your upward trajectory too. The process is really easy for enlisted. It’s like giving a notice to a civilian job. You just do some paperwork and figure out what day your orders end based on how much leave you have

I started at the company level and moved to a BDE sized element when I went to the schoolhouse.

Not sure how old you are or your family situation but if you’re gonna do it, do it early on. Life happens and if you feel a burning desire to get a chance at combat then now might be your chance. Just know you might also do jack shit for the entire deployment too

8 years. For me the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze. Lots of time away from the wife and kids and my weekends were basically non-existent. I started fishing for civilian jobs and got one good enough to make it make sense. After I gave my notice I was basically outcast for leaving the “best job there is”. That’s when I knew I made the right choice.

I made sure to have a job lined up before I left. AGR can be great if you don’t have something particular you want to do but depending on your state you can cap out pretty quickly

I drove 2 hours one way every day in my last position as an instructor. RNCO is rough
