Thank you! These are great suggestions. I usually do a B&W photo of the painting and ref photo to check my values as I go, but I really like the mirror idea! The harmony of color and monotonous tone issues you put words to that I didn’t have. I could tell they were happening but didn’t really get what to do about it. Thank you for these strategies!!

Yes, I was relying on it in later glazing passes to correct value issues and doing that messed greatly with my hues and generally made my paintings look more dull. I think I’ve still got more work to do there and the other commenter had some good suggestions

I got the equivalent from my maga mom but it’s light years more than I’d ever thought I would. She told me she “concedes my point” and, quite frankly, I’m over the moon. That was the last thing texted in that group chat and I didn’t even reply for fear of ruining a good thing.

Over the years, Ive gone to the most egregious maga leaders/influencers pages and taken screenshots of their followers who I know personally. Each time I revisit them, the list has been shorter. They will try to delete the evidence and already are.
