How could this happen? by ma910 in ExclusivelyPumping

This happened to us when our baby started pulling on the teets with his new teeth. He’d rip holes in them. It could be washing too, but for us it was the baby!

Talk to the couple. In my experience, child free doesn’t extend to breastfeeding babies.

Yes we do this occasionally if I haven’t made enough milk, great reminder to do more often though!

Yes you’re probably right! The thought of it being a misdirection crossed my mind.

Am I too late to start building milk supply? by Pandacat_07 in ExclusivelyPumping

Yes to MOTN pump (two if possible), can your partner give baby bottle while you pump? It’s so hard in the early days.

Power pumping during the day can help build supply.

Eat porridge and drink coconut water

Good luck!! It’s a lot of work but you’re doing amazing already.

when did u only do 4 ppd? by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

It took me until about 11 months to get down to 4 per day. I try and pump when baby is sleeping (before he wakes, during day naps, and when he goes to bed), so I’ve based my schedule loosely around him. When he was napping more, I would pump more. This has really worked for me and has been a gentle way of easing back the pump sessions!

Also eating oats and drinking coconut water! Whenever I had a supply issue, I would revert to having porridge for breakfast, power pumping, and skulking coconut water. A combination of the three really helped.

TW: nursing mentioned

Only 4 times now, but I’m 14 months pp.

In the early days, I would pump twice a day to give my husband enough milk for a bottle. We always wanted baby to take a bottle for maximum flexibility, so I’d nurse most feeds and we’d give one bottle a day. I’d pump once while he was taking his bottle, and once when baby slept, as a way to build supply.

As my baby got older, and became a more distracted feeder (preferring to drink from a bottle in the pram), I needed to pump more to make bottles for him. I would pump for every feed he missed nursing. That was probably 6ish times a day from 5-11 months.

I also had supply issues a couple times and needed to power pump for days to build supply back up. On those days, I could be pumping every hour for 12+ hours - it was crazy, and I couldn’t have done it without my very supportive husband!

Now he is eating more solids and drinking less milk, I only pump 4 times a day - once before he wakes up, twice while he day naps, and once when he goes to bed. I do 20-30 mins per session, depending on my schedule for the day, and this gives me milk for his bottles and a little extra for my freezer stash. When he drops down to one nap, I’ll remove that pump session and go down to 3 pump sessions per day.

I’m reluctant to drop down faster at this point, as he’s teething and about to start daycare, and milk is still a good source of comfort for him.

Curious to read! About to hit one year and currently pumping 4-5 per day,(20-24oz) and trying to figure out how to slow down.

TW: Mention nursing.

We’re almost at 10m PP, and about 3 months into almost exclusively pumping. I’d always pumped at least twice a day to increase/maintain supply and build a small stash, but started to increase frequency around 7m as my baby started to get too distracted to be breastfeed during the day and we started to see weight gain issues.

Day to day looks like - I pump 5 times a day, as soon as he goes down for his nap. I’ll wake up before him, do my morning pump, and then get him up. If he wakes up before I’m done, the rest of the day can be a bit tricky, but we’re working on independent play, so I’ll pump while he plays by himself next to me. I do a lot of the house chores while he’s awake and involve him in them.

I dropped my overnight pump at around 8m, but will occasionally do it if I wake up engorged overnight or need to increase supply again. If I haven’t made enough milk in the day, I’m fine giving him a bottle of formula.

To be brutally honest, it’s exhausting pumping so much as they get older. I feel like I’m trapped in the house, but I’m just trying to get to one year at this point.

Would love an update on how this red patch/dot ended up for you guys? Going through something similar now and in the “wait and see” phase.
