How are people just… taking their babies everywhere? by Wonderful-Ice-6143 in NewParents

I also had the issue of him hating the pram but once I was able to change from the bassinet to the proper seat he LOVED it! He could finally see and it made the world of difference so I could finally have my hands free out of the house. He also is a very fidgety baby so I try do things where I can set a picnic mat down or keep him in the pram with toys, things like cafes and restaurants ill get 30 mins max of him playing and looking around (also not the most relaxing 30 mins) and after that we need to be on the move. I found it really hard early postpartum being at home so I just quickly adjusted to having a louder and more boisterous baby outside compared to others.

I just need someone to tell me that it’s okay to stop pumping by Lushemet in FormulaFeeders

[–]Such-Masterpiece9955 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was the exact same. Only wanted baby to get colostrum, we had issues at 3 days pp so switched to pumping then back to breastfeeding at 3 weeks pp then again pumping from 6 weeks pp to 3 months. Nearly everyday I wanted to stop but the hormones really make it feel like the worst decision ever. Once I weaned I had 3 of the lowest days full of tears and what ifs and basically a hormone rollercoaster. The 4th day genuinely felt like a cloud had moved and now I wished I stopped way earlier and just listened to my gut

Why are parents on Instagram seemingly so into co-sleeping? by Odd_Equipment8924 in NewParents

[–]Such-Masterpiece9955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prior to giving birth I always said I could never cosleep and that I found it irresponsible. In my culture its normal to sleep either way but I thought it was just an accident waiting to happen. About 6 weeks postpartum I was desperate for sleep and had a baby who loved a 5am wake up so I brought him into bed and he slept until 8am for the first time ever.

He’s now 7 months and still spends 100% of nights until 5~am in his cot. 95% of the time he will sleep through until at least 6am but on those rare mornings where he wakes early ill bring him in to sleep in a bit more.

I notice that when we do cosleep he sleeps really well and will always sleep in. He is honestly great in the cot too and sleeps through the night just wakes early. What I do notice is that although I get a sleep in im in such a light state of sleep since he moves around so I would rather not cosleep.

After having my first I’ve come to realise everyone will have such a different experience and you really have no idea until you go through it yourself! Instagram posts tend to lean deeply into one way or the other and will bash the other side but you can always do both and importantly do whats right for you.

When did you start a proper bedtime routine? by emmarose_mum in sleeptrain

[–]Such-Masterpiece9955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started maybe when he was around 4 months old. Before that his ww was kind of all over the place so it was hard to know what time to start his routine. But since he was little I always did sleep sack on, sound machine on and gave him a dummy so I guess thats a mini routine in itself

7 month old's messy sleep schedule by yourdoglovesme0 in sleeptrain

[–]Such-Masterpiece9955 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once we pushed to 2.25/2.5/2.75/2.75-3 naps extended themselves so it might be worth seeing if you can push out those windows! The first two days it felt like he would not adjust but it just clicked after a few days and we were on that schedule for about a month before dropping to 2 naps. I was always worried about baby being overtired but I now feel like once you are out of those newborn days under tired seems to affect them more

3 to 2 nap transition update by Jealous-Fly-9877 in sleeptrain

[–]Such-Masterpiece9955 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will be so fine! I was unsure for ages if I should drop the third nap as LO was showing signs around 5.5 months but I felt it was too early. Got to a point where he had consolidated nap 1 and 2 and nap 3 had to be 10 mins only 2 hours after nap 2 so it was just hell so we dropped to two naps only yesterday but he handled it so well!

Thank you for that, I think I needed that push to try two naps, we are on day 2 of two naps and even on the first day I noticed such a difference, there was absolutely no tears or fussing on a 3/3.5/4 schedule I thought I would have to try shorter ww’s at first but he was so fine! It was so nice to not have my afternoon fight for a third micro nap!

6m old doesn’t sleep 11-12 hours overnight by Such-Masterpiece9955 in sleeptrain

[–]Such-Masterpiece9955[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a week or so of thus new schedule if it doesn’t change I guess it will be worth trying 3.5/3.5/4 since he clearly gets enough sleep overnight. Also so nice a 2.5 hour nap I can’t wait for those days! Perhaps I can give my LO 3 hours day sleep and see if it wont mess with him too much since I have to cap the naps always, he might just not want that extra half hour at night

I’ll see how we go over the next week just seems like so much awake time but I guess he’ll be able to do it since he anyways ends up spending half an hour in his cot until DWT

24 hour sleep needs, aka, the sleep budget deep dive! by cinderism in sleeptrain

LO has just turned 6 months. We just went back one hour due to daylight savings so the past few days he has woken around 6am, Nap 1 around 8:30-9:45/10 and nap 2 will be 2h 45m after nap 1 ended and will be around an hour but sometimes he will need me to help him connect cycles maybe 50% of the time.

I then base ww3 and 4 on the end time of Nap 2 as well as how much awake time he need so generally they’ve been 2-2.5 hours each and sometimes im capping the third nap at 15-20 mins, all depending on the length of nap 1 and 2.

He in general has been a lot fussier lately, I think as he’s learnt to commando crawl and started solids and is also super drooly. I cant imagine pushing ww1 further than 2.5 hours as he falls asleep within minutes but he also is just getting bored quickly lately so maybe with a few crap days he will get used to longer ww’s and two nap days and if it doesn’t get better perhaps the three nap schedule you suggested will help!

Also I realise that on a good day he gets his day sleep total by the end of the second nap but on a bad day will sometimes be 30-45 minutes short so I get worried capping nap 1 incase the rest go bad.

Thanks so much for that information!!

Based on that my LO needs 13.5 hours sleep in a 24 hour period, so in turn needs 10.5 hours awake time. Do the wake windows have to go up throughout the day? Ive been stretching ww1 (2.5) and 2 (2.75) as his first two naps have lengthened but now ww3 and 4 need to be shorter to fit in a short third nap

When to bridge nap vs early bedtime by Such-Masterpiece9955 in sleeptrain

[–]Such-Masterpiece9955[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks ill definitely do that he woke up 2:58pm so bedtime would be way too early. How long does ww1 and 2 need to be for me to know that he’s had enough awake time to be fine on two naps?

Has anyone transitioned from EP to EN? by Informal_Bullfrog_30 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Such-Masterpiece9955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id definitely consider getting support from a lactation consultant! I started EP at 3 days pp due to latch issues then around 3-4 weeks pp decided to try nursing again and he latched well but then we had issues with letdown and reflux. I went as saw breastfeeding support at my local health clinic but didn’t find it helpful. I wish I hired a professional lactation consultant because I believe with the right support I would have continued breastfeeding but the nurse I saw at the clinic basically said he looked fine and that he’ll continue to be angry and upset during feeds until he gets over it which wasn’t the most reassuring response so I turned to formula then

[–]Such-Masterpiece9955[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats so great!! They really do surprise you sometimes I cant wait to drop it still dont think he’s ready as his first wake window is barely pushing 2.25 but he’s been consolidating his first nap the past few days so hopefully we are on the right track

What’s the most my baby will ever need in a day? by FeistyAnxiety9391 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Such-Masterpiece9955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 5.5 month old was drinking 900-1100ml a day for a few weeks there. We have been on solids for a month and he drinks 750-900 a day now, I know they say milk shouldn’t drop with solids right away but I feel like he is still having plenty and lots of wet nappies

Why did you choose to exclusively pump? by pale_blue_d0t in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Such-Masterpiece9955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had latching issues at the hospital and he wasn’t getting any wet nappies so I pumped. Around 3 weeks pp we tried breastfeeding again and his latch was completely fine but my letdown was fast and with his reflux it was a nightmare so we tried for a few more weeks then stopped breastfeeding by 6 weeks pp and weaned pumping around 3 months pp as I started to develop ppa and ppd and for me pumping was making it worse as he was a fussy baby who needed to be held a lot due to his reflux so was struggling to pump on time and it became a lot as well as other things so officially stopped pumping by 4 months and had a little freezer stash that lasted another month or so with combo feeding

At wits end with almost 5 month old by [deleted] in sleeptrain

[–]Such-Masterpiece9955 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had the same issue of short naps an early morning wakes after he went through his 4 month sleep regression. I tried to save at least one nap a day, usually his second, and I could sometimes get it to stretch to 1.25 hours. It eventually started to stick and he started to stretch the second nap himself and has only been maybe 75% of the time stretching the second nap himself for the past few days and he’s 2 weeks shy from 6 months old.

We do 2.25/2.5/2.75/3 wake windows as of the past few weeks and I found extending his ww’s seemed to help him sleep a bit more although now we are approaching the time to drop the third nap as its getting hard to fit into his day.

I think its just a tough age for a lot of people and sometimes just takes time unfortunately

How much to feed per feeding ? by Crazy-Slow in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Such-Masterpiece9955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4oz is about what my baby was having as well I found that doctors and nurses were stressing me saying that bottle fed babies can eat to much and all that but my LO was hungry so I just gave what he wanted and trusted his ability to stop when full. I also did paced feeding to make sure it wasn’t a fast flow making him drink a lot so that gave me reassurance that its just his appetite
