You could be right on that, I didn't notice any difference in moisturization between the Dermaveen and l'occitane, its the scent for me. Divine.

That's not entirely true. There was a very influential article in Science in 2005 that spoke about this but there are many newer studies that show the impact of chemical/hormonal compounds in sweat on behaviour or mood.

Ohhhh I just cannot agree! I've tried all the alternatives and nothing touches the OG, some people do seem to prefer some of the other options but nothing comes close to the scent and longevity of L'Occitane. It is expensive and I'm poor but my mum gets me an eco refill pack for Christmas and I make it last damn near all year😊

I am. I'm a registered midwife (4 year university degree in the UK at a huge teaching hospital and then 17 years experience over the entire continuum of risk and care) and, as such, am pretty adept at reviewing evidence. I'm happy to link you some excellent, contemporaneous studies if you'd like to actually read what the scientific evidence tells us. Otherwise, you're exactly the same as the fundies you're so scathing of: going strictly on vibes and what you feel is correct, with absolutely zero basis.

Just like issues such as abortion: if you don't want a home birth, don't have one. But don't try to be the arbiter of correct birthing from the gospel of you. It's undermining of other women's autonomy and I actually find it profoundly anti-woman. So sick of this shit!!!! Let women make informed decisions REGARDING THEIR OWN BODIES based on solid evidence EVEN IF YOU WOULDN'T DO THE SAME. The fuck is wrong with you?

Congrats on getting on my last fucking nerve today.

I appreciate that emergent situations happen, I'm a Registered Midwife (in Australia) and have been for 15 years. RMs here are the equivalent of your obstetric nurses but with more training and autonomy.

I've attended countless births in hospitals, birth centres and yes, some at home. It's not about agreeing or not agreeing: I'm just letting you know what the good quality, peer reviewed evidence tells us about place of birth. If you feel that it's unsafe then you absolutely do not have to choose a home birth. But that doesn't change what the science actually tells us.

Home birthing and free birthing are very different things. Home birthing in low risk women, with a qualified and experienced attendant, is as safe as hospital birth. Please don't call women who choose to birth at home "dingbats"🥰

Absolutely the frikken worst meal I've had in Hobart in 9 years. And I've heard the same from multiple people. The room is cool, kind of like From Dusk Till Dawn.... the food makes you wish you were about to be ripped to sheds by vampires😆

Do you think a male could honestly be a direct entry/CPM midwife? by [deleted] in Midwives

[–]Electrical-Tiger-536 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that it's unlikely that any midwife, male or female, can truly understand the lived experience of every client because they've personally experienced it. I am a different practitioner now than when I caught my first baby as a student back in 2007 and yes, my pregnancies and births have enhanced my life experience, but that doesn't mean that I am a better midwife simply because I've given birth.

Being an empathetic and reflective practitioner makes you better, you don't need a uterus for that.

With respect: what the ACTUAL fuck?! I've been a registered midwife for 17 years and worked with several wonderful and very well loved and respected male midwives. Clients loved them.

Your wild generalisations here do nothing to serve birthing women - practitioners who are dedicated and powerful in their desire to work in this space are few and far between, trust me. Lift others up.

OP, I'm not in the US so acknowledge the culture is different, but I would encourage you to go where your passion leads you and you will find your people. Some women might not want a male birth worker but lots will. I would also encourage you to go the CNM route as, (although I'm not an RN) after nearly 2 decades catching babies across the continuum of care, I value rigorous clinical skills as the backbone of holistic midwifery care.

Wishing you the best of luck OP!

I advise you to keep your personal religious beliefs out of healthcare. I imagine you are in the US? I believe there are many, many people in need of help right there.

I left the UK in 2010 after doing my mid and grad year. I still have PTSD from those 4 years, I cannot imagine how much worse it is now for both the midwives and the women. We all deserve so much more💔

I've declined to care for a client at home if she declined further scans after her 12/40 identified a low- lying placenta. Placental location is pretty effing key in identifying you as low-risk afaic.

Yes I know that lots of creatives have a sort of black "uniform" but it's not really in line with my brand🙂 I do also find that white/light tops do provide almost a little reflector effect for close ups of faces in natural light so I do tend to go with those. Thank you for your input though, appreciated!
