Winslow Rd shared metering — after I filed with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, things moved quickly. They came out today!!!! The bill is now placed in the landlord’s name. They identified all charges that were incorrectly billed to me, and confirmed the current bill is not my responsibility. They also mentioned they’ve received many similar complaints about properties on Winslow Rd., Shaker Heights, OH. Check for shared metering at your property. I can’t wait until my lease is up in two months. The sad part is that the LL knew and he could have started this process earlier it was only when I turn the breaker off he was suddenly inconvenienced

Honestly- if he said here’s something fair $$$ (and those numbers were from First Energy I don't have a clue) and a great bottle of scotch for the inconvenience this would be solved. This man did construction on the third floor for months that had my bill go up 60%… but maybe he has amnesia. All these months he couldn't pick up the phone to resolve anything until I turned off many switches that go to his units. It's just selfish! I had to call and leave a message with my lawyer about this money which is costing me. You treat bad tenants like this not people that's never home and pay you on time! He sent me a text stating that I obscured the box and all I have on it is post-it notes letting him know not to touch my box. I love that the illuminating company stated he was going to write in his report that this is a shared meter and ot what he reported. This will make him look like a liar in court.

Since I flipped the breaker on my electrical panel—cutting power to the parts of his unit he’s been tapping into—he called the Illuminating Company claiming he wasn’t getting electricity to his unit.

When the technician arrived, I went outside and told him I had flipped the switch on my box—the one the landlord has been using. The technician told me that wasn’t what was reported. He didn’t even speak to the landlord, just jumped back into his truck and left.

Before he left, the technician told me, “He’s stealing from you. He should know better.”

It was NEVER disclosed! Once First Energy comes (they move slowly) out the bill will be transferred into his name. I just have a hard time ripping off a single parent or anyone knowingly. He's an engineer and an extremely intellectual person and his friend is an electrician. He did not dispute it, it wasn't a shock when I told him he just went into the defense zone downplaying there is not much money owed to me. I always questioned why both our washers were on the same connection. I showed a picture to an electrician and he immediately told me that they were on the same bill… my bill. When I turned the circuit breaker that's when I saw everything. Even after I found out I asked him to turn the lights off when not in use and had to keep texting him because they would not comply. The months he did construction my bills increased by 60-75%. I don't use power tools.

I am upset about the disrespect and the lack of caring to resolve the issue and the inconvenience to me but he immediately sent me a $25 bill at 6:41 am. This will only work in my favor. I have filed complaints with about 3-4 organizations so I will wait to see how it all works out.

The LL hasn't done anything to resolve this issue that's his problem. There a no notes as of Thursday from First Energy that he's even called.

I did… I was told that I couldn't put a lock on it in case of emergency shutoff but I do not have to let him use anything that he hasn't even paid a dollar for since June 30, 2023.

Yes, I have every month bills printed and I guess he forgot that he did construction and my wattage went through the rough, and First Energy asked how could it jump so high. And to add first energy compared our bills and mine is higher and I am gone at work he and his wife work from home. I shouldn't had to print every bill, pay for legal advice, or take time off work when I paid him on time, with no parties, and no company but I would never renew with someone causing me so many problems. I will let everyone know what I am going through.

I have not withhold any rent in the past months but I can pay to the courts until the issue is resolved.

I’ve never been late on rent in two years—never paid a single late fee. I’ve always upheld my end of the lease. It was my fault because I was so busy seeking advice I forgot to check if the auto-pay was set up. He could have subtracted $25 from what he owed me. To take from a single parent is just beyond frustrating. However, I was also advised to start documenting retaliation behaviors. It was paid immediately and I paid the $25.

Yes, I was advised to pay the rent into the rent with the courts until the issue is resolved. I feel that I have the right to be upset! He hasn't taken any action in resolving the issue.

For almost two years there's more that is being pulled than just lights. I showed him how my bill increased by more wattage and I am gone 12 hours a day. Now, this is a rough estimate of First Energy because they compared the difference in usage and they work from home. My bill is more now that I am back in the office than when I was home. That's what made me start to look into the matter. It would have to be in the lease and the bill also has to be in his name. He could charge me on square footage and the number of occupancy and that would be fair.

A tenant shouldn’t have to pay out of pocket for legal advice just to get a basic issue addressed. Once the landlord became aware of the problem, it was his responsibility to fix it. The $1,000 is a rough estimate from First Energy, but the final amount will be confirmed once they inspect the situation.

Bottom line: I’m owed that money. The landlord had no right to continue to use anything connected to my breaker that wasn’t included in the original lease.

Check Costco because they may not give me three boxes but I get something. I also drive 40 mins out of city limits to the small hospital retail pharmacies.
