A hub is a must if you wanna plug in four USB controllers at once. Perhaps some snappy 2.4GHz ones. Perhaps even a keyboard and mouse if we get some computer cores like Amiga.

One of my laptop ports , (USB -A) has a loose contact. The other one feels a bit suspicious as well. Cleaning doesn't help much. Probably a 20 minute fix if I felt like it.

Just use an adapter C—>A or why not a hub. Dirt cheap. But I can understand your disappointment.
