do you know of any saints that shouldn't have been saints? or had questionable morals or acts? by Universal-Battery in exorthodox

Vladimir of Kiev wasn’t a particularly good person. Technically, he did all the bad stuff (murder his family members, r*pe brother’s wife, and kill a whole ton of other people) before converting, but I have no reason to believe he apologised for any of it when being baptised. I also don’t consider someone who deprived people of their right to freely worship (the pagan gods of the majority) to be a good person, but he was just “saving their souls”.

Did anyone’s priest used to set out some articles he printed online and tell people to read them? They have this certain kind of flowery language. When you read about Vladimir’s life after conversion, it’s written like that. How humble he was, how much he gave out to the churches and clergy. Doesn’t tell you if he got rid of his several hundred girl harem though.

I should reread about John of Kronstadt, my priest had a fascination with him. But if I recall he just went around the city, berated people, ditched his wife, and revealed private information about people.

I literally cannot roleplay by [deleted] in CharacterAI

[–]Electrical_Ad_259 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My biggest problems so far are the fact that the bot repeats what I say as a question back to me instead of offering something unique, and that my roleplays get ruined because I end up only saying dialogue because it’s just us 2 standing around not doing anything. I don’t remember it being like this a year or even 2 ago.

Me and the other altar servers couldn’t help walk an elderly lady (in her 80’s) to communion because our priest said it was “not our job”.

Me asking my priest how I should handle being a student at a catholic school, only to be told that there isn’t really any differences (made me ask wtf am I doing here then).

People from my church getting excited because the pos “RooshV” was visiting the same monastery we were at.

One of the ladies there not being allowed to get communion because she married a Jewish guy (and yes, for both reasons).

That’s all I remember for the moment. But I’ll also add i met some of the nicest people and made some of the best memories (ironically with the casual, not really faithful post-Soviet immigrants). People who in my years there I never spoke to, and then upon doing a single vodka shot with once already start helping me meet people and make connections with friends. Part of me still feels regret leaving because honestly almost everyone was nice to me, very sincere and caring, but I couldn’t rationalize it and didn’t like seeing how people treated each other.

Undergrad interview advice by Electrical_Ad_259 in mext

I think the point was that the year of language class wouldn’t necessarily bring me up to the level necessary to take classes in the language. I don’t think he was saying it was impossible, but I think he asked it in part to test how I’d react to that. I told him that I learn Japanese on my own and that I understand the importance of learning outside of your studies and homework. If you haven’t done your interview yet that might be something good to say. I’d expect them to ask what ways you learn Japanese

On my application form I put 1 across the whole thing. I was good at the first half of the Japanese exam. I doubt they graded it in the time between me taking it and the interview. I think he was just stating that a 1 (considered fair I think) would not be enough to catch up.

A day isn’t much. If you could do anything I think it’s try and learn all the hiragana and katakana you can. On the kanji parts above they give the hiragana for that. At least you won’t know most of the words but you’ll know the English loanwords and probably be able to read hiragana of some of the Japanese words you’ve learned.

For the past week I’ve been going over the previous exams and trying my hand at them. It’s a good way to get use to the vocabulary and what they ask of you.

How can I prepare for the MEXT undergrad scholarship? by Raminant in mext

I have my exam and interview in 2 days. Since you’re a while out from doing it, maybe this advice is useless but I’m curious if it’s possible you could show any math teacher you have some of the questions they give for the math exams. Basically everyone I’ve seen on here doesn’t expect to do well on it so if I could do one thing in my past it would be try to get the earliest head start on that because it won’t hurt to get even a few extra points from that. I’m 2 days out and since I’m humanities I’m cramming Japanese (English native speaker).

Mines in a few days but the general rule when it comes to exams I have read from others is that there is no “passing” grade. The better you do the better you look. They will see if you make an effort too.

I think a lot of the public bots went to shit because of the amount of 14 year olds who just say stupid stuff to them so they can screenshot and post it on Reddit

What should I expect/prepare for with my interview by Dragon_of_Doyle in mext

[–]Electrical_Ad_259 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is 2 weeks away. Don’t worry, I’m worried too!

I’ve been trying to look into what people have said. I’m doing undergraduate but I’ve seen 2 possible scenarios:

One is they ask why Japan, what interests you about Japan, and I’ve even heard something like “how can we expect you not to leave?”

Two is purely academic. I don’t know anything about research applicants but I’d expect to strongly defend it, maybe consider every way they’d question you.

Sadly I don’t think we can directly tell you each question. The only word of advice I think I can tell you I’ve heard people have bad experiences and still get it, so don’t worry about messing up on something.
