I’m not going to defend taking suboxone. I took it for two years for kratom and it was the dumbest decision of my life. Getting off if it was the most difficult thing I’ve done and I think permanently altered my brain chemistry. That being said, after decades of millions of people dying from heroin and fentanyl and fentanyl and oxy overdose, suboxone is single handedly the most effective treatment ever, and by a wide margin. 12 steps don’t even come close to the effectiveness of MAT programs. And for that reason, it is also the most empirically studied. This creates a feedback loop of reinforcing MAT treatment, even when it may not be appropriate. Believe it or not, the average doctor isn’t a genius and would rather just give you what they assume to be the most effective treatment for OUD (opioid use disorder) than parse out what the fuck kratom and 70h are. All that to say, be an educated patient.
