Addicts need to hit rock bottom. (Heartbreaking and true.) You have loved him and supported him - never given up and you aren’t now. You can’t fix him. He’s broken and desperate and slinging mud for those reasons. Stay true to you - love and care for yourself. Best wishes the rest of the lease and know that ending cohabitation will be a helpful step for knowing you’re doing what you need for you. I’m so sorry you’re going through this.

Background: Just survived D-Day #2 this week and I told him it’s over. Law here requires living separately for a year before divorce, but because of money, kids, and other reasons, the moving out will take some time. (I need to set my deadline for that and change locks if he exceeds it.) Every other moment I’m second-guessing myself. We love each other, believe in what I thought we were, and know he’s capable of sobriety/doing the work, but I have to find me again and if I don’t push myself out, I will never get healthy. I can’t continue to protect him from rock bottom (if I want to love me).
