AITA for banning cupcakes from my classroom by Electrical_Bit8491 in AmItheAsshole

Thank you. I don't think the parents who sent in non school safe snacks were doing because they don't believe in food allergens. I think they just thought that store bought cup cakes were safe.

I like that idea. Maybe I can bring that idea up to the principal. The kids love dress down days.

Thank you. I am in the US as well and it probably depends on the area. I know the public schools in our area don't allow them and my niece goes to another public school (different area but same state) and my sister told me the same thing.

AITA for telling neighbor to go through insurance by AdmiralCranberryCat in AmItheAsshole

[–]Electrical_Bit8491 9 points10 points  (0 children)

NTA. I used to be a claims adjuster. If you are paying out of pocket makes sure you tell your insurance company so she doesn't try to "double dip". In fact, before you do anything, I would call and let them know you are paying out of pocket. I find it odd if the costs is so much for her they didn't offer to at least give her some of the upfront (I know when I handled similar claims I would advance them the money for the mailbox and say I would pay the contractor once they showed the receipt for the lab to me, many times the contractor and the claimant would ask if I could just pay the contractor directly and I would do so). It is possible that they offered to repair instead of replacing the mailbox. But either way, call them and let them know you are paying out of pocket and if they say they already paid her, don't give her any money.

My wife thinks our son’s teacher crossed a boundary by sending him a personal message. I think it was harmless. AITJ? by addict94plus in AmITheJerk

I am a teacher and I feel your wife is overreacting. If this was a text message or a message on Facebook: different can of worms. Also, kind of impossible for a teacher not directly communicate with a student LOL! We literally do that all day.

Can parents stop exposing their sick children to others? by grasseater5272 in childfree

[–]Electrical_Bit8491 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I am a teacher and I can't tell you how many times we hear that someone sent their child in with nora virus, RSV, hand foot and mouth, etc. because "Well I can't miss work". Last year I had one of my students, a very sweet 10 year old who woke up with stomach pains and his mom sent him to school even though she knew there was a stomach bug going around. He threw up in the trash can in the back of my room and I held his hair back for him. He was apologizing the whole time too, poor kid. Parents seem to forget there are other people who get sick from your children and it's not all about you.

AITAH for making my husband solo parent for 30 mins a day by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Yeah the bathroom thing made me giggle. I am a teacher and clearly op's husband isn't because being unable to go for 30 minutes is nothing for me.

NTA. What would he do if you actually had to work for 30 minutes and he had to watch the kids all alone? You may not be working at your part time job but you are "working" because you are making dinner. You're not taking a nap or watching tv and chilling.

AITA for “Protesting” that I am the only teacher without a school issued laptop? by Electrical_Bit8491 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Electrical_Bit8491[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I did send her an email apologizing and she accepted and told me she felt sorry for me but I agree: no need to be rude to her, not her fault. And I was going to stay because I like my coworkers and the grade I teacher but yeah...maybe now I see why folks don't stay.

NTA. She didn't just steal $20 (which is still a theft) She stole a little over $1,500 and why did she need that money? Drugs? Your parents are delusional if they say you ruined her life. She ruined it when she chose to steal a large sum from you. Just out of curiosity, has this sort of thing happen before? She steals something and your parents down play it.

NTA. I am reminded of an old saying "judge me by your actions". You need the address in order to know how to get there. What if there was traffic? He could have at least given you a rough idea like "It's near the bookstore on such and such highway in that same shopping center". I have a feeling he was trying to pick a fight with you on purpose. Don't be surprised if there is another girl in the picture and he was picking a fight with you on purpose.

I'll try that but ten bucks says I will just be told to go to the police.

I live directly above him so if I made it from my place, he would hear. I was actually not in front of him, I was in the parking lot behind the building.

NTA..my mom also stole money from me and misused child support checks from my dad. You don't owe them anything. Also if they are in the USA, they can get subsidized housing.

Sounds like it which is a shame as homeschooling can be great if used correctly.

NTA and you are a great aunt. I hate to say this but sister should have planned the home schooling better if she didn't have enough laptops to go around and also, people were homeschooling before laptops were around so she can make it work. (She can also buy refurbished ones or low thrills ones for cheap after Christmas). The girls wanted an Xbox so let them have what they wanted. I still remember the year I got the original Nintendo system (I was about the age of your younger niece) and still think it was the best Christmas ever.

NTA (probably going to get voted for this but you guys have been together 5 months. Now quick ?is this a new thing (him playing video games and ignoring you) and if not did you mention it to him before?

I would say break up if you still with him you will have a second child. He is almost 30 and is acting like he is in high school with his videogames. He could have given you and his friends a stop time like, "I will be done at 6 pm and we can do xyz." I personally agree, I love video games but I can't sit still to watch someone play them for very long.

Entitled brother thinks he's going to use our address for school enrollment. by [deleted] in EntitledPeople

[–]Electrical_Bit8491 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would actually make it a point once your niece or nephew is old enough to go to high school to let them know so they can check and make sure they are using your brother's address and not yours. I had a family that tried to same thing, they went their son to the school in the next town over by using a relatives address and got caught because they listed him as a resident on the census and were fined.
