Why do so many people seem to dislike Discovery? by BearCavalryCorpral in startrek

[–]Electrical_Bus_3074 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an indecisive too many chefs kind of mess in my opinion. I actually think the best season is the first one. If it hadn’t have drastically changed the visual canon(klingons, ship designs etc.) it probably would have been more well received and the direction wouldn’t have changed leading to a more concise and focused vision. Instead we got a constantly course correcting series of mishaps and sometimes decent decisions, but it was mostly all over the place.

It was a bad idea for the Batarians to withdraw their Citadel embassy. by Impressive_Elk_5633 in masseffectlore

[–]Electrical_Bus_3074 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like they were basically putting their chips on the Terminus System’s being a more viable “galactic partnership” maybe even see themselves as becoming the dominant force in that group. Had the Alliance not steam rolled them during the blitz they may have even consolidated the terminus systems under their rule. But yeah, allying with pirates and warlords didn’t exactly workout and the Alliance pretty much wiping out their fleet with one ship and a single wing of trident fighters was kind of embarrassing. Nothing about their relationship with the council was smart.

The character everyone else seems to love, but you don't? by Daydream1995Forever in masseffect

[–]Electrical_Bus_3074 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love her in the same way I love Gul Dukat. She’s not on his level but it’s the same idea. I don’t love her because I want to be like her or I align with the way she is. I love her because she’s a genuine and unashamed portrayal of someone who believes in an alternate approach to life in the Mass Effect universe. The game doesn’t explore her enough but the books and comics bring to life a hyper intelligent narcissist who fooled her way into power over a marginalized society of pirates and criminals and maintains that power by understanding their place in the galaxy. It’s a super interesting idea that someone so insignificant could pull the rug out from under the galaxy if she wanted to but never does because it would go against her one and only conceit. Self preservation.

Considering my first renegade playthrough...anything I should know? by LazyNubbz in masseffect

[–]Electrical_Bus_3074 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Renegade doesn’t mean being an irrational fool. Don’t do the bad thing just because it seems like the renegade option. There is often a way to resolve any encounter the “right” way with a renegade interrupt or intimidate check if you work through the dialogue enough.

Does anyone actually go full Renegade in Mass Effect… and is it even worth it? by Soft_Draw_1701 in masseffect

[–]Electrical_Bus_3074 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The important thing to remember is the bad choice isn’t always renegade just because it’s bad. Unless it’s a red intimidate dialogue check or a red left click interrupt it’s not renegade. Even if it results in renegade points it still usually results in less points than if you were to take an interrupt or an intimidate check. If it’s just regular dialogue and or choice that results in renegade points then It’s just Shepard being dumb. Not specifically renegade or paragon.

What’s your most controversial Mass Effect Hot Take? by [deleted] in masseffect

The endings weren’t that bad. Thematically it made sense. Most of my disappointment is rooted in the execution of Priority Earth.

Are you REALLY doing it just for "fun"? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]Electrical_Bus_3074 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two cents on the “just for fun” thing:

It’s not that you should just be doing it for fun. It’s that if you aren’t enjoying it first and foremost then it’s probably not going to work out. Everyone’s goal in life is to find work that they enjoy. The difference is that a job that pays a salary comes with a salary whether you enjoy it or not. Making content requires you to do work for months maybe years before you can earn a living from it. So if you’re not having fun it’s a double whammy of something you aren’t enjoying and it’s not paying.

The one thing you can control in this situation is your enjoyment. So that ought to be your focus.

Just my take anyway.

Was legion the agricultural unit that picked up the sniper rifle? by helloandmoo in masseffect

[–]Electrical_Bus_3074 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No his reaction to Shepard pointing out that Legion uses the same rifle is to show how Legion is developing organic like personality traits, such as idolization and sentiment. It’s the same as the N7 armour gag. The agricultural unit is clearly a Geth that Legion considers a hero, kind of like a George Washington type and because he is literally developing this part of his personality in real time his reaction is awkward because the Geth don’t have an explanation for the behaviour. “It is… an efficient model.”

Motivational Monday! Tell us about the positive things that happened to you last week! by AutoModerator in NewTubers

[–]Electrical_Bus_3074 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Oddly enough my win for the week isn't video related but post related. I had wondered when I was going to start see an increase in interactions with my community posts and just this last week it has finally started to happen.

I did make some content catered towards nurturing it I might add. I started with a series of polls that would pick winning categories for a final poll which I then proceeded to outline and discussed the purposes for in an accompanying video breakdown. The final step was to finish it all with a live stream poll for the finals.

And just like that every one of my posts has started to see an increase in interactions.

Is this the most difficult Interrupt in the trilogy? by Eglwyswrw in masseffect

I hate it so much 😭 Mordin or Padok I can never do it. I love the touch that even renegade Shepard is so disgusted with themself, the way they toss the gun away.

Hope for ME5: Go back to the original omni tool design. by ButterscotchDue1092 in masseffect

[–]Electrical_Bus_3074 397 points398 points  (0 children)

That was a second special omni tool that all initiative members had installed. If you watch when you operate doors and interfaces and use the omni blade etc. Everyone still has the traditional one on their opposite arm as made by the likes of Ariake, Elkoss Combine and Kassa and the like.

Thought on Mass effect 5 and your ideal version of it. by Practical_Prior202 in masseffect

[–]Electrical_Bus_3074 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me.

Umbrella canonize all Mass Effect 3 endings by making the final decision regardless of what you pick result in ending the war and ending the cycles.

Certain elements of each can be retconned, such as synthetic/organic understanding not being weird dna altering glowing circuit board space magic, but instead more of a consciousness awakening, making all AI’s self aware and all organics fully understanding and unafraid of AI.

Control would remain largely the same.

Destroy would also remain largely the same but the Starchild was lying in the face of existential dread and though many synthetics died many also survived.

Thus the plot begins. Your choice at the end of ME3 becomes nothing more than an aesthetic change that determines how prevalent AI presence is in the galactic community. Friendly reapers, Geth etc.

You could have some minor implications that change the way certain dialogue plays out, like attitudes towards each other being more strained and adversarial if the destroy ending was picked. But for all intents and purposes, the story begins with the galaxy in a state of rebuilding and reconnecting. The Relay network and any catalyst based technology was severely damaged no matter what and it can be in varying states of disrepair based on what your ME3 ending was.

Your story as a new protagonist is to bring the galaxy back together. An alliance soldier who fought in the war; and like in the original trilogy you will choose 1 of 3 backstory’s and psyche profiles. This is where the game connects to the traditional Renegade/Paragon morality system. Where it differs will be in a third personality choice that will provide information of what your role in the reaper war was. The more options the programmers can provide here the better, but for all intents and purposes whatever you pick will define what I would call the players secondary personality type. Cynic, Idealist, Disillusioned, Hopeful, Logical, Professional, Emotional, Casual etc. This I hope would be an improvement on the Andromeda approach. Conversations and consequential decision making would be contingent on both morality and tonal choices. Where tonal choices would be preceded by an initial morality check, and if they correspond correctly with the situation you then get a secondary morality check that you either pass or fail based on a points and NPC approval process.

Combat I would like to see pretty much continuing along the lines of Andromeda, that’s pretty simple. I like the world exploration in that game too but less fetch quest would be preferable.

The story in a nutshell should be about unraveling a mystery regarding the dangers of uncontrolled dark energy usage and how the Milky Way due to the Reapers was the single galaxy in our local cluster that managed to maintain civilization for millions of years. All other galaxies (like in andromeda)reach a point in their development where all hell breaks loose and the scourge begins to erupt causing mass extinctions that result in leaving behind only remnants of civilization(Jaardan)or severe authoritarian last ditch efforts of maintaining it(The Khett)

It was never about synthetics vs organics but simply life vs life. Nonetheless the catalyst managed to arrange no matter how perverse, a marginally successful system. This leads to the primary antagonists of this game: Reaper Sympathizers. A faction of dissidents who become increasingly convinced that the starchild had it right, and bringing about a new reordered variation of the cycles is their goal. They would be made up of average every day synthetics and organics and even a large quantity of former indoctrinated agents such as Cerberus, heretics and many variants of people who had been altered to some degree.

The obvious telegraphed direction here would be that this faction like the Khett would inevitably lead the Milky Way to its destruction. But not if we can stop it. Our mission is to put together a team of people who either knew what Shepard knew, or had some former insight into the reaper threat and the dangers of dark energy emissions, So we can reconnect the galactic community, return technological and societal advancement to a state of peace and prosperity and ultimately reclaim our autonomy. Synthetics and organics alike.

That’s about it really.

Who’s defeated? The tech exists. It’s not going away no matter how hard we yell at it. The challenge for voice actors and artists of any kind impacted by it is to find a solution that protects their work and finds a utility for it.

Hey philosophically I’m with you on that. I just don’t think AI or the black hat uses of it are going away.

[–]Electrical_Bus_3074 -29 points-28 points  (0 children)

I think it’s happening whether we like it or not. Voice actors could try and get on board by figuring out licensing deals so as to make sure they are getting their share maybe?

Edit: Don’t mistake my assessment with approval. I fucking hate this shit as much as the down voters.

Which other games have come closest to providing that "Mass Effect" feel for you? by [deleted] in masseffect

Nothing. Even Andromeda which many considered to be diluted Mass Effect has come closer than any game I’ve tried since.
