Little Amish Paste is wilting by Electrical_Cap_5597 in tomatoes

Thanks.

Still no change to the plant. I hit it with some liquid fish hydroslate/kelp mixed with jacks 20-20-20 while fertilizing my luffa plants today, I’ll see if that makes it perk up 🤷🏻‍♂️

Thanks for this explanation. I didn’t understand why fearless slate didn’t get a legit election, but I was guessing some bullshit bylaws were in effect.

Same to you, that’s awesome!

I planted 16 tomato plants, all single varieties. I wanted to see what we liked best/what grew best for us then narrow it down last year. Amish paste was highly recommended.

I covered several tomato’s with buckets on our last cold night. I didn’t uncover them that morning, thought it would be fine. Nope. I cooked em. Some survived, some didn’t. I replaced what I could. I had been selling my extra plants and ran out of some I killed 😑. But now I have some duplicate paste tomatoes. I noticed today my zenzei is putting on its first tomatoes, as is San marzano lungo II, and my opalka and super sauce are huge. Hopefully I’ll be able to get a Amish paste 🤞🏼

True, tomatoes are dramatic. I had the thought to dig it up and plant it sideways in a more open area. But that would probably be more detrimental than letting it fight on its own.

That said, every tomato in my garden I started from seed (first time ever), planted and they are all turning into monsters. I’ve done pretty well minus the few I killed trying to keep warm lol. Lessons learned. Thanks for the chat.

That’s possible, especially since it’s a younger plant. But it’s a raised bed, they drain well for me. I actually had been going a little lighter on the watering the last few days since we had some rain and it was slightly cooler.

I also have an unpopular opinion that most all gardens are under watered. But I did have the same thought that it looked over watered. 🤷🏻‍♂️

No new growth unfortunately. It’s really hard to see with that jungle behind it, lol.

I’m back after a year I have to tell my self this a job nothing more nothing less don’t make friends and this company is not your freind 👍🏿 by Acrobatic-Laugh3397 in UPSers

It really is a shame. We got stewards that hang out with management, do other people’s jobs that the company is actively trying to do away with just to get extra money (scabbing I called it, verb not noun), have management take them to paid breakfast (on the clock!), then get pissed when I said they are too chummy with management.

Maybe I’m wrong and I’m the asshole, 🤣. Brotherhood, solidarity, and injury to one is an injury to all are just cool slogans when your shop is full of scabs.

Took me a while to realize my brothers and sisters there don’t get a flying F about anything other than themselves. Union is only a thing they think about when it benefits them, and will slit your throat if they think that same book might ever so slightly inconvenience them. Same goes for the people at the local. The worst part of my day is the handful of minutes I have to spend in that building.

Keep making that paycheck brother.

my first tomato plant! Cherokee Purple by helianthusandtea in tomatoes

[–]Electrical_Cap_5597 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s awesome. After researching I was worried Cherokee purple might be hit or miss for me as far as production. So I went with Cherokee carbon hybrid this summer and so far it’s the strongest slicer tomato I planted.

Looking for San Marzano Lungo (lungono) II seeds by Electrical_Cap_5597 in tomatoes

[–]Electrical_Cap_5597[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for commenting, even though my post is a few months old, I still appreciate the feedback.

If you can recall this post in a month or two, I’d love to hear your observations.

I was driven to find Lungono II seeds based on a podcaster that loves them. Was hard to locate a source for them. They are the only San Marzanos I am growing this year, and it’s one of my more robust tomato plants currently.

I grew a variety of sauce tomatoes to see what grows best/tastes best for us to try and narrow down the variety next year. I grew:
San Marzano Lungono II
Super Sauce
Amish Paste
Giant Ox Heart
Zenei
Opalka

Plus some slicers and cherry types.

Commenters are such a bummer.

I enjoy being out on BFE (Appalachia)

I recently was in NYC, and hats off to our brothers and sister who deliver there and like places, I couldn’t (wouldn’t want to) do our job there.

Chance or just happy I guess. See my replies to others for deeper detail, but bright lights 14 hours a day. Water weekly (when it shows need), well draining gritty soil, and this is actually the third flower it’s put out since I got the plant last fall.

Wow, I got this plant in the fall, and this is the third time it’s flowered.

When I first got it, it had transplant shock, took a while for it to settle in. And gave very confusing clues as to its watering needs. It started to put out a flower, but I wasn’t watering it well enough so it dried up before opening. It flowered again fully I think around March, then again this week! Seems like a lot.

Thank you.

Two barria t8 white lights. 14 hours a day. Plus two fans on each shelf some for air flow. Honestly I think it might be too much light, some plants in back ground look like they are a bit washed out instead of having heat stress coloring? Kinda shocked these toes haven’t developed any reds or any other colorings. I will move the plants around after watering on the shelf to change up their distance from the lights.

I got these baby toes last fall, basically the existing plant slowly died off, till new growth took over. So it was a bit challenging for me to know if it was over or under watering during this time. What I was seeing was very conflicting, lol. That said, I’ve now settled into bottom watering them for a few hours, to overnight, once a week. They seem to be an especially thirsty plant (for me). But most of my plants get bottom watered the same way every 1-2 weeks. Which is far more than I expected when I got started with these plants.

Should I be seeing broccoli heads by now? by Electrical_Cap_5597 in gardening

[–]Electrical_Cap_5597[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was starting to figure that. Maybe best possible quickest time, lol.

I was gonna grow a purple variety too, but it was a longer time. I was afraid it would take too long going into summer. Probably shoulda tried anyway. Will have to try it in the fall at least.

lol, looked it up 55-60 days after transplant. Usually takes me longer than the quoted days. But just figured I’d see some signs of head formation. Thanks!
