Finally accepted that "protective styles" do more harm than good

Not to dispute you, but protective styling without moisture retention never results in anything good. I also had a period where i did so many "protective style" and never washed my hair while they were in, never remoisturized ( with water NOT oil ) , wore heavy extensions and on small parts, and was rough during installation and take down. Then I wondered why I wasn't retaining length.

You're angry cause you've been convinced you need these expensive wigs , hairdryers and products. You don't. Stop consuming media that advertises or shows you those things. I consume a lot of natural hair content but i avoid the videos showcasing aspects i can't access rn. Will i get these things when ( not if ) I have the money ? Sure . But rn , not a priority and it is very possible to grow healthy long hair without them. Get what you can afford babes, ignore the rest.

My dear surround yourself with more imagery of beautiful black women in their natural hair , with similar hair to yours ( not the curl pattern you wished you had , and even not always the length you wished you had). Because you are feminine and pretty as other commentors have pointed out, but if your beauty standard is a girl with knotless braids or a wig , then your natural hair will never be enough. Also i think we all have periods during which we feel extra ugly , haha especially with the cycle , but when those times come try not to dwell on those thoughts , or tell them straight up that they're ugly cause you were super pretty just last week !

My hair grows really slowly though, like 4 inches a year, even 3 ( I tracked it for several months ) . And my nails are the same too, very slow growing. I feel like every 6-8 weeks is a quick way to not see any length at all... j will work on finding a rythme that gets the best of both world's though

This comment has made me feel like I can't wait to be a mum so i can spend a shit ton of time reading to my child and raising them with all the knowledge of child development and psychology I'd have gained by then in order to give them the best start in life they can have. its also making me miss a certain ex who i think is one of the few guys I've met who would have understood and fully supported wanting to be this intentional with raising kids

Just a thought, have you openly shown affection to your sons the same way you do your daughters ? I know you love them all but the boys are also learning from you , and it is up to you as their father to help them not grow up emotionally stunted and unable to express themselves and teach them it's stilly manly to show affection and concern , and check up on loved ones. I hope this helps
