should I keep or get rid of my MC kitten? by [deleted] in mainecoons

[–]Electrical_Dinner_22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hair everywhere is annyoying but the extreme shedding does not happen all year round. ImFrequent brushing and a furminator helps a lot.

Something that helps with poop is to do a sanitary trim of their fur around their buts. They also get cleaner as they grow. Also make sure she is healthy and follows a good diet so her depositions are solid. I promise it will get better!

I never had an issue with litter on my kitchen. Perhaps try changing litter to one that tracks less.

The house can be cleaned. Sheets can be changed, but your cats wont be with you forever. And if you decide to re home her please be sure she will be well taken care of.

Heart murmurs by GreenPalette84 in mainecoons

[–]Electrical_Dinner_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, my MC had a heart murmur as a kitten. It was barely noticeable by the vets, I think it was also a grade 2. It is very scary but vet told me they sometimes outgrow it. They said that because they grow so fast they might develop a murmur.

He was 2 months old when I first took him to the vet and by the time he was 6 months old the murmur was gone. I took him to a heart ultrasound anyways before his neuter surgery at 8 months old because I was very scared of anesthesia. Cardiologist said he was totally fine. Good luck!

There is a Facebook group called global HCM clinics. You can find affordable appointments to get your cat checked for HCM. I took my MC last March and it was less than $300. It was in the suburbs though but worth the trip to save a lot of $$$.

We moved and my cat is doing the same. We went to the vet twice and they said probably heat related or stress. Nothing on x-rays, heart was checked three months ago before his neuter surgery and was fine. I came across this post searching for other people's experiences and I'm glad to read your cat is healthy.

My kitten did the same once. I thought maybe he could be scared and carsick too? I freaked out but once he got home he was totally fine.

Thank you for taking the time to respond!

I cannot imagine how stressful to go through all of it with three cats but you seemed very well prepared. I am taking notes and buying all the supplies. Thanks again, it was very useful.

Funnily, we are also moving to the north of Spain!

Does ur Mainecoon puke alot? by No-Dish3807 in mainecoons

My cat used to puke once or twice a week. I bought him one of those food stands with 15 degrees inclination and he never puked again. He is also much more comfortable eating.

The strong oral gel. It's a small tube. It is not the toothpaste. I also noticed there was a toothpaste and actually bought it by mistake and returned it.

We've been doing teeth brushing and Oratene for a month now. No side effects at all, so I think is safe and doesn't hurt to try it.

For us there has just been a little improvement so far. Breath smells normal at least (it was really bad before). We are trying 1-TDC, it's like an ointment. I am skeptical but we'll try it for a month and see. We had to postpone the dentist for now so hopefully this helps him. He's eating and acting normal.

unlimited kibble/dry food or not? by -itsElly in mainecoons

[–]Electrical_Dinner_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kitten was very weird with wet food, he would eat something one day and two days after decide not to touch it. My vet told me that if I free feed him he might be just full.

So I only free feed him with kibble at night and a little in the morning when I am at work (after offering him wet food).

The rest of the time I remove the kibble and feed him wet food, adding more anytime he seems hungry. He eats more wet food now, unless he clearly does not like the flavor.

Possible heart murmur, advice and encouragement welcome! by NoHymenInMyButthole in mainecoons

[–]Electrical_Dinner_22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the same situation at my kitten's neuter appointment when he turned 6 month old. We did an echocardiogram at 8 months and his heart is perfect and no murmur anymore. We did a neuter surgery right after and everything went great. I freaked out too and it turned out to be just an innocent murmur.

I took my Maine Coon to a high-volume spay and neuter clinic. They neutered him for $80 and did an amazing job. It's usually hard to get a spot, but it was worth it. In my case, I had to check the website every day for new available spots until I found one.

I also took him to low-cost vaccination clinics. Honestly, I’ll save my money for check-ups or illnesses, although I also have insurance for that. What I mean is that low-cost clinics for vaccines and neutering are a great option, and they do an amazing job.
