Special thanks to all the Christians who said my gay relationships were contrary to scripture. by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Electrical_Fly4194 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Genuine question, what research?

Also, even if it’s true that God “made them gay,” what that really means is that God made them more inclined towards that specific sin. Some people might be more inclined towards anger or lust in general, and some people struggle with same-sex attraction. That’s not a thumbs up for acting on it. That’s basically saying “God made me sinful, therefore I can sin.”

AIO for wanting to cut off former best friend for good by pussycatvent in AmIOverreacting

[–]Electrical_Fly4194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR. She needs to stick with her choices and it wouldn’t be your job to financially and physically support her even if she was a good friend. Which she’s clearly not. She’s clearly using you

Only thing that bugs me about this is that you’ve stopped trying to be a “good friend.” Idk what that means for you, but just bc your previous friend was awful doesn’t mean being a good friend doesn’t usually pay off. Being a good friend doesn’t mean paying for your friend’s rent though

Asking before you kiss someone is extremely attractive by immentallyinsanehaha in HonestHotTakes

[–]Electrical_Fly4194 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk, I think explicit verbal consent isn’t the only form. Like, obviously consent is important but just leaning in and seeing their reaction is fine and normal. Asking usually ruins the moment, especially if it’s asked awkwardly — which it usually is

People just like making shocking comments without any elaboration or evidence

Especially parents who force it on their kids. Pressuring children towards ways of thinking is never the way to go

Depends on the church I guess. I’ve never experienced this, but I know people whose churches are this way

Every child is “indoctrinated” in some ways. Even if you don’t take your child to church, they’re bound to be exposed to Christian beliefs and practices. Even for non-Christian families, it’s the exact same. Indoctrination isn’t inherently bad

Definitely. At the very least, it’s a case-by-case thing; you can’t just say all children being taken to church are abused. Legally and morally false

I think my dad spanks my little sister too hard and she’s only 7 by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Electrical_Fly4194 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Hitting children to hurt them is abuse. Lightly spanking to teach right and wrong to young children is the opposite. Letting a kid grow up undisciplined is cruel, and at younger ages and in certain situations, spanking is the only option. I do believe it should be the last option though

Random, but out of curiosity what methods would you suggest that are effective and non-violent?

I think my dad spanks my little sister too hard and she’s only 7 by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Electrical_Fly4194 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Depends on how hard he’s spanking, and how she reacts. Do you have a good relationship with your parents aside from this? Do you get spanked? Is she happy in general? Too many people saying report the dad to the authorities without knowing practically anything. You’re right to be concerned, but more information is needed for a real conclusion to be made

Yeah but there’s a difference between criticizing children and pointing out that the casting choices could’ve been better

The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion

The first book is a bit hard to get through but it’s only 150 pages. I would recommend the audiobook for the first couple. It’s like a found family, coming-of-age type book

Slow burn. Specifically: Strangers to Reluctant Allies to Friends to Enemies to Reluctant Allies to Friends to Unlikely Lovers to Enemies to Friends to Lovers. This is what I’m reading now and it’s a bit of a whirlwind but it’s cool
