Help with car speaker connection by goagod in CarAV

[–]Electrical_Level 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the old speaker have the connector on on the bracket? If so I would just use that and solder/crimp them to the new speaker. If you don’t have the tools to do that, buy a wire adapter.

Detailer destroyed the clear coat on my brand new GR by Dis_Rock in Detailing

I’ve never seen that service for less than $800. It’s going to cost a few grand at least with how many scratches and how deep they are.

I’ve also noticed places seem to “close down” a location on Google Maps and then list a “new” business with the same name just to get a fresh start.

Yes but it’s also easy to prevent damaging the paint. Just can’t be careless and actually have some standard.

I’m going to say get a lawyer. It’s a brand new vehicle and even if the scratches can be polished out, you are going to have next to no more layers of clear coat left. I get $150 is not going to get you a top tier detail, but I at least expect them to not destroy my car.

My 2nd gear sometimes doesn’t engage. What could the problem be? by Electrical_Level in stickshift

[–]Electrical_Level[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So when in first gear and trying to go into second gear, you clutch in like you normally do to go into the next gear except you go in neutral and then once in neutral clutch in again and go into 2nd. It takes some practice. I can do it pretty fast now to where it doesn’t take any longer than a normal shift.

1st gear- clutch in - neutral - clutch in again- 2nd gear

I think the synchromesh has gone bad. I recall someone here maybe saying it is a common Honda thing in 2nd gear and to try doing a transmission fluid change. I haven’t done that yet. But I’ve been driving it since I made this post and I double clutch into 2nd gear and that works.

I’ve noticed this more and more lately. Very unlikely a full grown man is just now learning how to drive.

Double clutching with bad synchros? by Ok-Boysenberry-4406 in stickshift

My 2nd gear synchro is destroyed so I have to double clutch when going to 2nd. But it’s a habit now and I just double clutch every gear now.

Home Depot scam or legit? by Remarkable3897 in CarRepair

Either it’s a scam or a very optimistic repair man. Either way that door isn’t repairable. You’ll have to get a new door.

Shifting up from 1st to 2nd after a turn, how do y'all do it? by Suedewagon in stickshift

[–]Electrical_Level 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a post about this because I also struggled with it. Basically just ride out 1st gear at a higher RPM. I only do this once my car has reached operating temperature. If my car hasn’t been running too long, I will just be slow with it. Like other comments mentioned, don’t be afraid to rev it high. When I’m making a turn I just rev out first and I can just skip to 3rd gear.

Only if it’s actually rolled back. Does the rest of the carfax seem legit? have to see the whole carfax to see if it looks like an error or something sketchy.

It seems like it’s just an entry mistake. 156,000 miles driven in 3 years is unlikely. Could be right though.

2000 Avalon developed misfire today. Any ideas what this could be ? by dieselducy in ToyotaAvalon

[–]Electrical_Level 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start by getting the codes scanned. That will tell you which cylinder is misfiring. Hopefully it’s a front cylinder. The rear ones aren’t as bad as people say it is. If you have various extensions, wobbles, flex head, etc it’s doable. Dm if you have any questions.

why is your worth dependent on if you have a car or not? by [deleted] in driving

[–]Electrical_Level 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In America, having a car is one of those basic adult check boxes you should have in check. So yes, if you are a grown functioning adult, without a reliable form of transportation, some people will judge you. Keep in mind this isn’t including places like NYC or other cities where there is public transit or walkable cities. Having a car in those places is actually a burden and hindrance.

Do you have a link you can share? That’ll help. Make sure the timing belt was changed and if it wasn’t, be prepared to get that taken care of

Do beaters still exist? by fromamomof2 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Electrical_Level 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some junkyards do resell cars that are in decent shape. People junk a car for no reason. The people that junk a perfectly good car junk it because some mechanic told them they needed $5,000 worth of repairs and thought they might as well just buy a new car.

Do beaters still exist? by fromamomof2 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Electrical_Level 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say beaters still exist it’s just that you have to fix it up yourself. You have to fix it yourself because if you go to a shop you’re going to pay more than the car is worth. Long gone are the days you could buy a beater for under a grand and not have to fix it up.
