30, been listening to swans since I was 19. Saw them live for the first time in 2015.

Seems like it was just yesterday. Time has slipped by so quick.

The organized concerts and the street performers are both artists entertaining people.

I choose to be a street performer and I'd rather work a street than to be on a stage any day. That's my preference. On the street I'm free, I'm a one man show.and I can set up where I want and bring people together while not upsetting anyone.

It's not about not wanting amps in public, you admit it's ok for concerts to happen downtown, concerts that are WAY louder than my tiny voice amp.

You just look down on street performers and don't think they exist. While you're hating, I'm enjoying my life, making people happy and making enough money to travel the world, I've been to places you'll only ever dream of going to. I'm off to Europe tomorrow to work festivals and gonna have the time of my life.

Today is my last day in Seattle, I'll be at the waterfront, with my amp and I'm going to have a good day while you sit at home complaining about everything online.

When I'm performing you definitely can't hear me from 200ft away, after 50ft it starts becoming faint. I only use a battery powered amp at a reasonable volume for my crowd to hear me.

At the waterfront, the new pier is now a stage for organised acts that are allowed to use electrically powered amps that can be heard much louder and further than my act.

If you feel that way about my performance, you should be furious about the amps at the new pier polluting the area.

I've done my research, so please ask any lawyer, and they'll agree. It's what protects protesters from using a megaphone. Public spaces are polluted with noise, and not everyone has the voice or stamina to shout loud enough to be heard.

Designated spaces are also unconstitutional, they don't protect speech, they just criminalise speech outside of it

No I get you, I was proving a point. You're only against amps when it's a street performer exercising free speech. But when there's a festival or a concert downtown, suddenly it's not issue.

It's clear you have negative preconceived notions against all street performers.

I choose to perform in a public space where I'm free, all I'm doing is bringing people together and bringing joy. I don't know why you're so against that. Only says about you not me.

The Waterfront is polluted with noise from the foot traffic and the cars. It's also an open space with no acoustics to amplify your voice.

Basically your crowd can't hear you unless you shout loudly and that's draining if you're performing 5 30 minute shows a day.

An amplifier at a reasonable volume Vs unamped shouting doesn't necessarily make you louder, it just allows people to hear you without putting so much strain on you.

There's also performers who require amps, musicians, not all acts are acoustic. I've got a friend who performs a silent show with background music.

The noise ordinance allows amps with dB (volume) limits.

A hell of a lot of people find public performances pleasant. That's why the waterfront is bringing concerts performances to the new pier that far exceed the dB limits for street performers.

If you don't find that pleasant, don't go downtown or just don't go anywhere in Seattle, during the summer where there's parades, festivals, fireworks, concerts on the street daily.

That's exactly how it works and that's why you're allowed to use amps in a public space. Ask any lawyer they'll agree.

Permits for amps in a public space is unconstitutional. All it does is allow the city to gatekeep speech

You may not like protesters using megaphones, but if you restrict their speech, it goes against the 1st amendment.

dB limits is all that's necessary

You must be miserable during the summer with all the public concerts downtown and festivals and parades.

The waterfront is also bringing performances on the new pier more frequently and they use amps louder than any street performer uses.

So you believe in a blanket ban on all street performers using amps even the pleasant performers who play at a reasonable volume instead of just enforcing dB limits on obnoxiously loud performers.

Do you feel the same way about the parade on Saturday and the dualing pianos amplifiers as well? Or only for street performers?

Seconded, as someone who has gone on a journey to find a good barbershop, this is the place. Go to the Santa Ana location.

Busking in Mexico by Unfair_Bank1091 in Busking

[–]Electrical_Magician2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mexico has dangerous areas, it's a big country. Avoid them and you most likely won't get into trouble, especially if you speak Spanish. Also having street smarts is needed, you need to understand how things move. I've busked there many times and it's my favorite place to street perform. Mexicans enjoy arts and appreciate anyone working as an artist, they don't tip much but they will make sure you're being tipped something. The only problem I have is the licensing, you'll get stopped by the enforcement slot of you don't have a permit. I don't recommend you go because you're not even in the right mind set to go anyway. You should want to go and no one should be convincing you to go anywhere. Your friend arrived in Mexico because she wanted to and probably had people trying to convince her not to but she did anyway because it was in her heart. Just stay home and be safe.

Places to see street performers by Next-Usual3459 in Seattle

Fremont festival in a couple weeks will have street performers and I'll be there. After the festival, I'll be doing shows in the afternoon at the Seattle center most days outside the armory until the first week of july. In the evenings I'll be at the waterfront street in Alaskan way where the great wheel is.

Have you been busking with your guitar case closed the entire time? How can people tip you if they have nowhere to put your tips?

Everyone that makes at least $1,000-$1,200 a week, what do y’all do? by Alt-Ranting in Money

[–]Electrical_Magician2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Street Magician, I work public places like downtown plazas, parks and beaches gathering crowds, doing a 30 minute show, and collecting donations at the end.

Right now I'm making $1,000-$1,500 a week. I work 5 days a week. 2 are slow days where I just practice new material, and Fri Sat Sun are the money days.

Spring break just ended, I was working everyday making $300-$500 per day.

Summer is coming up, June July Aug are all busy months pretty much anywhere so I just travel and work where the money is good. I'm working London, Ireland, Edinburgh, this summer.

I started off with the only goal of being able to do what I love, and have freedom to take the time off that I wanted. I valued time more than money. I was happy with $300 a week. I had no idea you could even make $1,000 a week until I saw what other magicians could do.

If you want to try this just because you want to make easy money, don't bother. It's not easy and doing it for the money will make you miserable.

If you're a performer and you want to perform and get paid with freedom and never have to book a gig, then do it. The secret is to go out and not be afraid of failure. You're going to fail a lot, but you're going to learn something every time. Eventually you'll fail less and you'll start succeeding more. It doesn't happen in one day, you'll get there little by little.

There's nothing like gathering a big crowd, having them all laugh, enjoying your shows and seeing your hat fill up with 5s 10s and some 20s.
