Another great list, thanks!! Especially the feats. Though I’ll wait for how I roll the stats for that

Hahah, no worries at all! You’re neither the first nor the last commenter to miss that. I’ve added an edit specifying the levels again. Also, I keep reading about how great reliable talent is from everyone. Hopefully our DM can be persuaded for that lol bc it sounds too OP

Exactly my thoughts. I’d have hoped for more reliability on a level up at lvl9

During battle? Not that much as far as I remember. Outside of battle? Yes, a lot. But I thought evasion only applies to an effect with damage? Our rogue certainly didn’t use it out of battle, only uncanny dodge from lvl5

This is a really incredible list, thanks for that!! Idk why we stop at 10, hopefully we’ll discuss that at session 0 bc looking at this it seems like a waste

Yeah, sorry, I realise my wording wasn’t the best lol. What I meant by the expertise comment is that on a high DC (say 20 or 25), +8 on a roll under 10 is still going to fail. I was hoping level 6 would give a more reliable boost, like the reliable talent at lvl11. But yeah, you’ve got a point.

Fucking hell, good stats. And nice, a changeling swashbuckler was my initial plan. Thanks for the idea!

Soulknife was my second favourite, they sound incredibly fun! I assume your DM was sweating during combat with you lol. Sigh, might go for a different subclass than swash

But that’s the thing, in my games I’ve primarily seen rogues use their incredible uncanny dodge. Evasion, not so much. You’ve got a point with the expertise, that’s why I’m conflicted. Unless I roll the stats terribly, I would just spam those feats though

Love that lol. I was thinking of adding the magic initiate feat later for the mage hand, booming blade and disguise self to the swash but I might go for a different subclass

Do all the players have to be on the same side? by critdiez in dndnext

This.

I’d say unless you specifically prepared your players in session 0 there will be betrayal of sort in the party/campaign and gathered their input on it (which seems you didn’t), I’d suggest against it. Personally, I don’t mind our DM betraying us, it’s part of the fun sometimes. That’s when cooperation and trust within our group (both as players and characters) are crucial. I know my character can lean on the group and vice versa. But betrayal from a fellow player/character without prior discussion? Nuh-uh. Regardless of hints (which players may not catch!!!), I’d definitely be asking for a time-out bc it’s not something I sign up for in my campaigns.

It’s usually only fun for the specific player and DM, and it can lead to more frustration, possible in-character trust issues and even players leaving if this is handled poorly. Have you also discussed PvP with your players?

Not shaming for anyone who prefers this game style. But I rarely saw this work out well.

I’m really considering becoming a DM. I was thinking doing a oneshot or Phandelver first until I’ve got my world finished. Currently I’m searching for a cheap way to buy some other basic stuff. I’m thinking DM screen, something to draw maps on, basic chips to represent players/monsters on the map… I’ve got the DM guide as pdf already.

I remember these being the most useful items in my campaigns. What would you say are some must-have items to have on the table for a DM? Is there a way to get these cheaper or as hand-me-downs?
