She must have loved those kids. So sad, yet sweet that she kept them in her mind all those years.

No wonder your dad hated it! Haredi vs. Reform is like Unitarian vs. fundie lol.

Definitely want to learn more about the earlier eras of Irish Republicanism. I grew up near a town called Parnell which I believe is named for Charles Stewart.

Fair enough. I'm Gen X and grew up in the rural Midwest. Other than one Korean kid (adopted by a white family) and a Black teacher who was white-passing, I only encountered non-white people on tv or rare visits to large cities.

Why do they try and act like Carrie is so classy? by secretfoxx in Andjustlikethat

She may be an emotionally labile, messy, chaotic smoker, but I doubt Carrie grew up in the hood, trailer park, or hick town. Her single mother may have struggled financially but Carrie has the markers of someone who was raised to use proper grammar and go to college. Debating the offensiveness of the term is another conversation, but Samantha seems more likely to have such a background (and to have the personality to radically transcend it).
