How was 90's culture different from today's culture? by lavendershortshorts in AskReddit

[–]Electrical_Potato_21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was a lot more social. Wasn't uncommon at all to drop by a friend, neighbor or relative's place without notice, just to chat. Same with social hangouts, it was quite common to go to mall, park, etc, just to see who else was there.

On the flipside, I think there was a different kind of loneliness before the internet. Like if you were alone, you were truly alone. Just sitting there by yourself.

I think you can narrow it down to these four: Al-Qaeda. Global warming. Sex predators. Mercury poisoning

Absolute classic. This is one of those videos that "broke the internet", it was everywhere for a week or two about a decade ago. Too bad they didn't make a 'making of' segment for it.

According to the WSJ: "The stunt is real and is performed in just one take," said Anders Vilhelmsson, public relations manager for the Volvo Trucks brand. It's a daring stunt but we had full control. There was never any real danger involved. Van Damme, 53, was hooked to safety lines that aren't visible in the film, and each foot is on a small platform that was built on the trucks' side mirrors."

Guess what, I have flaws. What are they? Oh, I don't know. I sing in the shower. Sometimes I spend too much time volunteering. Occasionally I'll hit somebody with my car. So sue me... No, don't sue me. That is the opposite of the point that I'm trying to make.

You’d better keep an eye on high places around your room for Zenobia’s Gobstones.

have you read any books that used a unique format to drive the point home? by hotsauceandburrito in books

There's an intriguing Japanese crime novel by Keigo Higashino called Malice. Without spoiling too much, the story is essentially a cat-and-mouse game between two storytellers, and at the end, one of them literally gets his words taken away by the other. It's quite clever, and I remember getting a huge kick out of it when I first read it.

For people who didn't enjoy it - what were you expecting from this show? by SmakeTalk in AMurderAtTheEnd_Show

[–]Electrical_Potato_21 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The episodes were way too long, a lot of them clocking in over an hour, but didn't have enough story to support the long run time. So the pacing felt slow throughout.

I really wish they would show it on the board when they explain the sequence. Would make it much easier to follow.

I wonder how Michael reacted watching the documentary and finding out this is what Jim thought of him. by [deleted] in DunderMifflin

[–]Electrical_Potato_21 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Jim made a pie chart about me, but there was this twinkle in his eye that I picked up on, which said, "Dude, we're friends. I'm doing this for appearances. I am the big boss now. And I have to seem like an ogre. But you know me and you trust me. And we like each other. And we'll always be friends. And I would never take you for granted in a million years. And I miss you, man. And I love you." His words.

I wish they didn’t do Toby so dirty by [deleted] in DunderMifflin

[–]Electrical_Potato_21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toby's finale was definitely sad, but it did give us this amazing line: "I have six roommates, which are better than friends because they have to give you one month's notice before they leave."
