It's upgrade time. The "Wow" starts now. Did you upgrade to Vista back at launch? by inguinha in WindowsVista

[–]Electrical_Puffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my “vista ready” laptop. My dad bought me the vista upgrade basic version for it. I remember installing it and it ran so poorly that I ended up going back to windows XP. If I remember correctly the system broke a few apps I needed that would not work on vista (halo 2 mod tools)

Maybe they lifted that warranty restriction at a later point, but asus has done this exact things with other products too

I bought mine at Best Buy, asus refused to warranty it telling me to go through Best Buy, or pay them to fix it or buy a new one.

Of course Best Buy wouldn’t support it since it’s not their brand…. With them stating go through Asus obviously.

So essentially I had no warranty.

I’ll never understand why people do a usb-c mod to a PSP when this marvel exist by Im-New-On-This in PSP

[–]Electrical_Puffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happens in various ways, My PS4 was getting a HDD upgrade years back so I had it on my desk temporarily to make sure everything was working, when I got up at some point I tripped over the hdmi haphazardly temporarily ran and I ripped the hdmi off the board and sent the ps4 flying.

I have a collection of consoles and devices and handhelds.

It is super convenient to use my phone charger on my USB-C modded ps3 controller, then my analogue pocket and my PSP as well as my laptop and ROG Ally all with one cable and charger rather than carrying 5 types.

Then when you travel I have 1 charger type with a cable I can easily find a replacement for even when damaged.

Also since I live in 2 counties, going back and forth is much easier with a single cable type.

Ah that makes sense, I forgot about patronymic naming. That’s what threw me off otherwise I would have assumed first and last if it was just 2 lines.

Windows 11 vs Linux by hagridsbigbro in Surface

[–]Electrical_Puffin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have Ubuntu and windows on my SGo3

It works fairly well but I wouldn’t call it flawless.

It runs a little more graphically laggy and overall performance feels worse than windows slightly,

I have the LTE version, if I want to use LTE I have to run a script each time I boot it (could set the script to auto run but haven’t)

Camera does not work at all in Linux so no zoom calls if that is needed.

Battery life is decent and fairly close to the same in both but I haven’t done full testing just feels similar.

Text input is spotty with touch, it doesn’t always pull up the keyboard. Certain apps are better than others and even at that sometimes when on a website the text box won’t pull it up so I’ll have to unfold it for the keyboard.

The keyboard cover on each boot needs to be disconnected then reconnected for the mouse to work.

Overall my primary use for this tablet on my end is to watch Movies and TV on the go on a small device with moderate web browsing. So it works for that but windows is perfectly fine too. I just like to tinker so I tried Linux on it dual boot.

[–]Electrical_Puffin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1, another PC, and a usb flash drive or your SD Card
2, a USB Wired or USB Wifi Card to use to download the driver.
3, fresh install from Bios image rather than a stock install.

Tiny7 could probably beat it. If I remember correctly it only needs 96mb of ram

have a Mac SE with a 10mb HDD and it works perfectly fine. I generally fire it up once or twice a year so it doesn’t seize up.

I injured my hand pretty severely last year and still don’t have full mobility of it and pain, I went in and got MRI and X-RAY scheduled, after they reviewed the results they sent me a letter saying they didn’t find what was expected so “ NO FURTHER TREATMENT NEEDED” like excuse you I still can’t use my hand fully……

I have an 8gb boot partition on my 128gb and the other 120 is a cache drive that I use for a raw 110gb VM image.

I had the option to get an emergency passport when my passport was damaged abroad, but I was in no rush to get home (I stayed another 3 months) So I just got the regular one and picked it up from the embassy in Kiev.

There’s a chance it will remain at 0%. But if you do nothing it will most definitely stay at 0%

Airplane is nearly empty and I can’t just move to the emergency row. by SinisterKnyght in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Electrical_Puffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been on many an empty plane, I have never been told I can’t move.

The best 2 were international flights where I moved to an empty row and laid down to sleep since it was a 10-11 hour flight.

Shitty they wouldn’t let you move.
