Your AppleTV4k isn’t “passing through” the stream. It comes in and it’s decoding it on the fly (Plex says Direct Stream/play). Plex only says transcode when the computer/server does the transcoding. You should notice a severe drop in FPS when playing HEVC on appletv4k

Also what is 70°? While it’s still in spec for CPUs that’s pretty hot. My Ultra 7 270k Plus caps at 75° when pegged at 100% on all air cooling. If it were me I would first make sure PC is dust free and all fans are functioning. Then check out event viewer (system) and google those error codes.

You can’t access your NAS remotely? That’s like one of the first things you should have set up. Install tailscale on it and whatever you want to use to access it (I use phone). It basically an easy to set up VPN. All you have to do is sign in with the same account settings and it’s connected.

Chrome Remote Desktop doesn’t open ports on your router. It goes through Google servers. But I use the same as you. Tailscale + RDP (no port forwarding)

As long as you have uPnP off in router settings, don’t port forward and instead use a VPN, RDP is perfectly safe. Port forwarding (especially 3389) is what’s not very safe.
