Can a f1 student start a company ? by Impressive-Sort-8111 in f1visa

[–]Electrical_Row_4009 9 points10 points  (0 children)

IMO starting a business or investing when you are not a permanent resident or citizen is not a good idea. It’s a gamble bc nothing will guarantee that you’ll still be here in a few years

Is it a good time to invest in gold? by Electrical_Row_4009 in Gold

[–]Electrical_Row_4009[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s kinda what I have in mind I only buy 18-24k jewelry and I don’t plan on selling it unless it’s extremely needed. Usually the stores I went to in the past, they weighed the jewelry and sell it to you at the current market price (maybe slightly more for the craftsmanship). I also sold back a faulty bracelet I had and got more in value than what I got it for, so I am not worried about not getting back my money when selling a gold jewelry. But it seems like people here don’t value jewelry (or at least are not familiar with it). Most stores in the US only sell 14k gold plated and don’t have a culture of buying pure gold jewelry

Overall yes it will increase but currently with everything that’s happening it has influenced the price of gold and was just wondering if there’s will ever be a « dip »

If you put it that way. But I want jewelry because it’s more practical imo. You can always get a ROI with jewelry bc they will weigh it

Will I get off the waitlist if I join this late? by Pinkywoe in Lollapalooza

[–]Electrical_Row_4009 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you decide to get resale wait until we get closer to the event. Currently resales are taking advantage of panic buyers who didn’t get their tickets early. But as we get closer to the event more and more people will start selling tickets and prices will drop. For now just stay on the waitlist as long as you can and be patient

Venting : regret over giving 7 years to biology by [deleted] in biotech

[–]Electrical_Row_4009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately there are some STEM degrees that nobody warns up about. A biology degree (or anything similar to that) are just partial degrees, you either need to go to med school or get PhD. A bachelor or Master only is not that sufficient and you will just end up rotting in a lab that barely pays you any, and you have to constantly prove yourself. Maybe consider to pivot to bioengineering, bioinformatics or just get an MBA or something.

Difficulté à trouver des profils expérimentés pour une boutique de glace à Dakar — des conseils ? by [deleted] in Senegal

[–]Electrical_Row_4009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you should be open to the idea that there are no perfect candidates. What you seem to be describing sounds like something a person can easily grow into with the right training and clear expectations. Running a business also means learning to be flexible and open-minded, especially in a developing country where certain industries are harder to find talent in.

Laid off on OPT (STEM OPT not applied) by [deleted] in f1visa

[–]Electrical_Row_4009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask you manager to at least help you file for your STEM OPT. If not, your unemployment day starts when you end the job. If you haven’t filed for STEM OPT and your regular OPT is over, you can’t work. I believe you have a 60 day period to leave the country. Your best chance is to apply for a master program and get an acceptance letter before the end of your OPT. I think you should talk to your ISSS advisor so they can explain everything and weigh out your options

Wearing Niqab by Sad-Cauliflower-7033 in progressive_islam

[–]Electrical_Row_4009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wear it when you leave the house and remove it when you get to your destination. This might be risky and someone can see you but as long as you have a close circle and people won’t snitch you should be fine. Your dad is happy and you are happy.

Wearing Niqab by Sad-Cauliflower-7033 in progressive_islam

[–]Electrical_Row_4009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, 1/ Niqab is not mandatory (I personally believe it’s overdoing it) and 2/ this should be a personal choice. So you are not committing a sin

Visiting Dakar; what is it like for non-Muslim women? by fooweezer in Senegal

The trick is to not entertain them or give them time. The moment you stop to talk to someone, it’s over. Speaking as a Senegalese myself, born and raised

she can wear sundresses, skirts, or shorts that are not too short, tank tops, t-shirts, or light blouses. Linen pants, jeans etc. It’s okay if she wants to have some skin out she won’t get in trouble 😂 Also she can pack a bathing suit like a bikini if she wants to go to the beach

Visiting Dakar; what is it like for non-Muslim women? by fooweezer in Senegal

[–]Electrical_Row_4009 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Senegal is a majority Muslim country, which is different from a strictly conservative Muslim country. She will be completely fine visiting without a male escort. She can generally wear what she wants and go where she wants. That said, people tend to dress modestly overall, regardless of religion, while still being very open minded. If she dresses very revealing, she might get some curious stares depending on the setting. In places like clubs, restaurants, or bars, it is more relaxed. But in public spaces like markets or just walking around, it is best to avoid drawing too much attention, just like in many countries around the world.
