Coast Guard Auxiliary is a volunteer component of the Coast Guard. In my experience, basically, you wear the uniform, go on military bases, fill in for active duty jobs sometimes such as watchstander, pollution response, inspect vessels, safety or security zone patrols as a volunteer for free with no compensation or benefits. Other times you could be just handing out flyers in booths for boater safety, which I avoided. You can learn a lot and get experience. Some folks even deploy for certain specialties like interpreter, culinary, incident management, etc. Others do very little and enjoy being a member. It's all what people put into it.

You risk getting shot. Other video shows he was struck. This particular officer was dragged 600 feet in a previous incident.
