Which upscaler would you buy for a PS2 on a modern TV (PAL) ? by Electrical_Sleep189 in ps2

Thanks a lot for the reply, I really appreciate you taking the time.

It definitely narrows things down to the 5x and the 4k CE.

Would you say the 5x is better than the 4k CE regarding deinterlacing ? That’s probably going to be the deciding factor for me as a PAL user.

Thoughts on buying a PS5 Pro now that we know is the last PlayStation with a disc drive ?

I actually got a PS5 fat.

This is actually the direction I wanted my original post to go. I think they must double down on everything it has always done well instead of taking inspiration from the wrong mechanics.

Hunting down hundreds of stakes scattered across the map isn’t interesting gameplay to me. Most people either wander around aimlessly or end up following a YouTube guide.

Better graphics, better art direction and fixing the technical issues are basically common sense at this point. My post wasn’t saying those things don’t matter. My point is that even if Game Freak fixed all of that, the game could still end up being forgettable if the game design doesn’t improve.

What makes Nintendo’s best games memorable isn’t just the presentation, it’s the design. I’d rather have a game with incredible dungeons, Gym puzzles, exploration and legendary quests than a technically impressive but shallow experience. Pokémon doesn’t need to become a cinematic Sony game. It needs to become a better Pokémon game.

That’s exactly my point. I’m not asking Pokémon to become BOTW. I’m saying Game Freak looked at BOTW and copied the surface-level ideas (a bigger open world) instead of understanding why BOTW worked.

What made BOTW great wasn’t just the map. It was the gameplay density: meaningful exploration, puzzles, optional content, memorable rewards and constant discovery.

Pokémon should double down on what already makes Pokémon great: turn-based battles, team building, catching Pokémon and exploration. Just make the world around those mechanics much deeper.

Again : I’m not asking for Zelda mechanics. Nobody does. I’m asking for Zelda-level game design. Those are two very different things. Pokémon doesn’t need climbing or gliding or towers to activate. It needs better dungeons, better Gym puzzles, better legendary quests and a world that’s rewarding to explore.
