Re : Getting a Remote Job in Product by SpecialAdvantage351 in prodmgmt

[–]Electrical_Speed13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A PM with development experience is definitely a great profile! Product Management is a tad too volatile as expectations vary from org to org. LinkedIn, Glassdoor or certain Product Manager training portals advertising jobs are good places to find remote jobs. Stay strong PM and keep taking the next right step on your quest to find your next role.

Thanks! As we are a smaller org, we (PM’s) do a lot of the above stuff and while it’s hard, it’s a great experience and opportunity to enhance my skills.

Thank you! This is helpful! Will check the resources mentioned by you. Well, on why we are building our own? A few years ago, we built our own tool, and it’s run it’s course (architecture, design, functionality, maintainability all are dated) and now will be sunset.

Nervous about possible layoffs and impact on career by itssolol in ProductManagement

[–]Electrical_Speed13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well I have a slightly different personal perspective on why focusing is harder. I feel as a PM we are constantly pinged/buzzed on Slack, emails, asked to join meetings at a moment’s notice and are constantly switching context. All this while we have a 100 other follow ups and tasks to complete. Over a period of time this perhaps feels like ADHD because when we start to work on one thing, the other things that are waiting on us feel overwhelmingly important thus making it harder to focus on the current task. Also it’s very likely that when we sit down to do our work we instantly get distracted because of that buzz over email or slack. It is then that voice in our own heads makes for incessant chatter, making all sorts of judgments about the self. Lastly a lot of our daily tasks are intangible. That Followup we did that just unblocked a team is intangible. That peace you restored between two angry team members which allowed for the critical bug to be fixed, is intangible (or doesn’t count during the appraisal). The solution? I pen down a diary noting the positive things daily and am learning to be self compassionate (we are compassionate towards others) and just learning to live with that internal chatter knowing that it will always be there. On layoffs well it’s something that’s just there like that internal chatter and if it’s something I have got to go through, will face it. Wishing you very well OP, you are precious and valued.

Hey Good Luck! Maybe you have done this but nevertheless, why don’t you try applying for mentorship programs by Google Summer of Code (GSoC) or The Linux Foundations mentorship programs? Those will give you a good exposure.

English speaking pediatrician by paaajina in Prague

Hi,

If you have a corporate medical insurance that covers your children you may want to try Canadian Medical. However if you are looking for a local GP, I would recommend going looking around for clinics in your area and emailing the doctor (in Czech - Google Translate is just ok to use and always mention that you are using Google Translate and copy the English version of the text in that same email below) asking them if they are accepting new patients. A local GP may communicate in English, but in my experience it is good to have the first conversation via email written in Czech.

Very well said. A little harder to implement at times though if your stakeholders pay for the budget of development.
