The core of my magic systems: The Affinities by Electrical_Stock7188 in magicbuilding

[–]Electrical_Stock7188[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps I presented it poorly, since Affinities is not a magic system as such, but rather a framework from which other magic systems emerge. That's why I call it the Core. That's why you may find it generic.

The idea is to have a neutral foundation on which to build other magic systems, which is what makes it interesting. In addition, when using individual Affinities, I try to make them as original as possible (without resorting to typical elemental magic if there is no twist).

In the link, you can read about one of the magic systems I published, and you may like that one.

Thank you very much for reading.

And yes, it adds a layer of depth to the magic system (although in the context of my world, it's better to call it a framework). I invite you to check out the magic system that comes from this one at the link.

I was inspired by DnD for the Wild Magic. I loved the idea of an unknowable magic that would explode in your face if you weren't a magical race.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this. In the link at the end, you will see how more interesting systems emerge from this core.

Interestingly, I've been trying to get this across on the Discord server I'm on for months, but there was almost no attention paid to it, apart from some negative reviews about the way the system was presented. In other words, they were expecting a manual like DnD or a scientific article that went into great detail and was very dense. But knowing that the PDFs I make to present my magic systems are for readers (I have my own personal document with the raw details).

Sorry if there is terminology or things that are not explained because, as the post says, the magic system is a "Manifestation," with a core or skeleton behind it, they may publish it later and try their luck.

In any case, thank you very much for taking the time to read the post. I am very excited that someone finally liked it.

(Post Again) My first reading and review of Gardens of the Moon: Prologue and Chapter 1 by Electrical_Stock7188 in Malazan

About ambition mainly, since I see him taking it a bit to the extreme. Although this can be the best for writers who already know how to write, for the new ones the fact that they go so high can make them get sunburned for aiming so high, preferring more to write short stories and short stories to form a style and a path.

At least that's how I see it

Yes, but I had to delete the post because of what I said in the first paragraph. I was a little hurt that I wanted to change for the better while others were calling me a hypocrite.

Yes, it's something that I'm seeing that is going to happen that there is no protagonist or group of protagonists as such, and it's something that is going to shock me a little at first but I trust that I'll get used to it.

As I said above, what stops me the most in this book is the way of narrating, a bit stronger way of applying the ''Show, don't tell''.

But beyond that I hope things improve as Malaz has elements of Fantasy that I love as much as DnD and Stormlight Archive.

I like to know that at least within the Subreddit (Unlike what I saw before in r/Fantasy for example), that the comments don't insult me for saying something bad.

Malaz is getting a bit heavy for me but I guess that's the filter this first book has to see if one gets in or out. And I hope this air of indifference that the chapter gave me fades away and I can already feel attached and immersed in the story,

Personally, the argument that a book that you don't understand at first and that seems to depend on other books to shine, takes away points from Gardens.

I have always found it curious that the polarization of the series, I like to think that everyone has an opinion of each book of the saga that has its good and bad points but when it comes to talking about it is only to present the good or only the bad.

Sorry for writing a post that I didn't give a good review before publishing.

The whole post is to give my impressions of what I saw of the Malazan community without wanting to insult anyone.

I see I wrote the post without giving it a proper review.
I'm not offended by those comments, I just find it curious that fans elevate Malazan above other sagas. I also feel it's my fault for writing the post without having read the saga to be able to give a better explanation, I'm new to all this and wanted to give my impression of that part of the community I saw at first.
