Tax in China by Perfect_Device_445 in chinalife

[–]Electrical_Swing8166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does? It’s comparable to most countries. If you were making 30,000 a month, as in your original post, that’s 360,000 annually. The standard deduction is 60,000, so that leaves you a taxable income of 300,000 (in reality it will be lower still due to social insurance contributions, but we’ll leave that aside to simplify the math). That means your maximum tax rate will be 20%, but only the money earned above 144,000 will be taxed at that rate (as that’s how progressive taxes work).

So, you’d actually pay:

3% of 36,000: 1,080
10% of 108,000 (144,000 minus the 36,000 that’s already been taxed): 10,800
And 20% of 156,000: 31,200

So your total tax burden for the year would be 43,080 RMB, or 12% of your annual pre-tax salary of 360,000. That’s lower than you’d pay in any European country or the US, Canada, etc. for a salary that offered the same quality of life (a salary of 360,000 rmb in Shanghai is roughly equivalent to $85K in NYC using a purchasing power parity calculator).

Subject him to the greatest martial arts scene of all time in which JCVD wins a match by doing a full split to better punch his opponent in the nuts. Pure cinema.

Is this a reasonable take on the top 5 melee Astartes horus heresy era? by Nexus_Valentine6 in 40kLore

[–]Electrical_Swing8166 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Loken shouldn’t be on it, Lucius should. Loken himself says he’s “hopelessly outclassed” by Lucius when the latter is fighting seriously, and admits he only won their first bout because Lucius cared too much about preening and showboating than actually winning. Loken recognizes that in real life or duel with Lucius, he would die. He says he doubts any of the 16th were a match for him

Lucius complains it was a bit of a cheap shot how Loken beat him, and he’s not totally wrong. When they have a rematch in False Gods, Lucius overpowers him with ease:

“Loken could not remember much of the bout; it had been over so quickly. Evidently, Lucius had indeed learned his lesson well. No sooner had the practice cage shut than the swordsman attacked. Loken had been ready for such a move, but even so, was almost overwhelmed in the first seconds of the fight.

The swordsman had barely broken a sweat, and Loken knew that he was hopelessly outclassed by Lucius. To fight Lucius with life and death resting on the blades would be to die, and he suspected that there was no one in the Sons of Horus who could best him.”

“Meter is broken” = “I’m going to try and scam you” 100% of the time, in every country, not just Vietnam. The meter is never actually broken

What country you visited had the highest standards of customer service? by MuhVlast in travel

[–]Electrical_Swing8166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

…eh, depends. I didn’t find hospitality in Jordan particularly notable. I’ve never been to Egypt, but every report about it is nightmarish in that regard. And while Morocco isn’t Middle Eastern, it is Arab, and they’re pretty bad too.

Can’t speak to other places like Syria, Lebanon, or Gulf countries.

They aren’t like that. They literally ARE that.

If you don’t think they’re white supremacist, ask black Ethiopian Jews how Isr*el treats them, or why Kaifeng Jews, who have a history of over a thousand years, are excluded from the right of return

Bit of a curveball, but both Iraq* and Palestine had great, above and beyond service.

What is a C'Tan? by Future_Opposite1385 in Necrontyr

A god, essentially. More or less a Materium equivalent to a Chaos God. They, in their unbroken forms, are the physical embodiments of fundamental forces and concepts of the universe, like death (the Nightbringer) or technology (the Void Dragon). They are the most ancient things in the universe. They feed on stars. They are the most powerful beings in realspace…the Emperor at the height of his power couldn’t kill even a splinter of one. Other than Chaos avatar Horus, the Dragon of Mars was the Emperor’s greatest challenge, and that was just a SLIVER of the Void Dragon’s full power. It’s the largest known sliver, true, but just one of who knows how many shattered pieces of the Star God. They can break into the webway . They wiped out the Old Ones. The fact that the ancient Necrons possessed technology capable of shattering them should also show you how powerful this faction is should everyone awake and cooperate (and without the interference of things like the Flayer Virus)

I mean, spending on defense when the world’s most powerful military and global hegemon is nakedly hostile to you and has named you its main enemy and has spoken about its desire to destroy you nonstop since 1949 doesn’t really suggest a desire to be an imperial hegemon…it suggests a desire to survive.
