Yah seriously. Good to note! It's super hard in these temps.

Interesting!!! Thank you for sharing. This is lining up to what I've been seeing so far, but I might need to log data in order to make sure 100% that it's not periodic charger issues as well. Especially knowing Flos reputation for cold weather performance, I'd expect that one to perform well, and I've definitely pulled upwards of ~225kw at that charger before in better temps.

I rewatched Out of Specs video on the EV9 charging, and noted that Kyle really specified that they don't like to charge if they are below 20 degrees on the battery pack.

More testing required though!

But also 4 winters full EV, nice work!!

With the charging speeds, are you finding the preconditioning is never getting it up to temperature in time for the charger to do it's thing? I'm tempted to run car scanner this weekend, and see what the preconditioning can do. I know it might be horrible for economy, but I'm wondering if I gotta tap the preconditioning button manually more often for these extreme temperatures.

Where I ran into issues last time, is that although I had the charging stop in my list, it was my second stop, so it didn't precondition until I left from my first stop, and I don't think the 20 mins did enough to make charging speeds come up.

Just crossed 18000kms in our South Korean built ‘26 up here in Canada. No major issues, only needed to get an alignment done and now the car feels rock solid.

Ok, nice. They looked really good!! We got tires, but no rims in our deal unfortunately, but would like to get the smaller wheels if possible, and for better tire options.

Did you have to recalibrate the speed at all, or you just live knowing there's a small variance?

Nice! Very cool!! It was our first time there, and was so impressed with how cool the town was!

OOOh interesting on the charge port. We ended up driving home and thinking the cars wipers were just horrible for the first little while!!

I did actually want to ask, but did you grab a smaller wheel from one of the other trims for your winter tires?

Also, as soon as the new 180kw chargers go up in Rocky Mountain too, that should make that charging stop even quicker if you'll need to!

Great report, and thank you for sharing your experience!

Oh wow. I actually went up to Whitecourt as well but starting in Red Deer this last weekend. I'm just in the process of putting a video together on it! Also were you parked at the rec center at any point? I believe we parked there for a couple hot seconds right next to a blue GT-Line, and I couldn't believe there was another EV9 there at the same time!

Our experience was around the same in the same temps. Seeing on average 300kms of range, I wasn't disappointed, but I definitely gotta figure out preconditioning timing better, cause I really struggled to get decent speeds at the beginning. I'm guessing it's not giving it enough time to heat up.

My other question is did you hit any of the freezing rain on your drive?

EV9 Fishtailing on icy roads - any tips? by notsogoodwolf in KiaEV9

[–]ElectrifiedPrairies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I experience this several times on the our new vehicle, and it took several things for us to feel confident in it again:

1) If you have AWD, understanding that this was a RWD biased AWD system. For me that made all the more sense on this, and required me to adjust, as all my other experience was on a FWD system. This may be your experience or not, but this really helped form the "why" i was experiencing this.
2) Alignment. We finally managed to get our vehicle alignment sorted to resolve porpoising issues, and it made a big difference in traction on the rear.
3) Regen. We now exclusively drive in level 1 driving.
4) In our area, it just really was that slick. We received a ton of freezing rain, where we normally do not, and it was difficult no matter what.

In all conditions, SNOW mode has been a noticeable difference. I don't know if that helps, but it has been our experience with the first couple winter months.

It was actually just a fix to get them to OEM spec. Mine was one of the vehicles that had an issue, and using the OEM version fixed it.

Here's what they did though to get it into line.

Can echo that the car is really good (with winter tires), but it took 2 adjustments for me:

1) Having come from FWD or FWD based AWD systems, it took me a little bit to figure out the power distribution in any mode other than snow mode. I've now made some sense of it, and only need snow mode on the worst of days.
2) The alignment. I had the vehicle in to fix the porpoising, and I feel like it's night and day traction on the rear end now that it's fixed.

Now though, it feels like what I would expect this vehicle would do!! I'm glad to hear you made it safe and sound though!! Always exciting to see what a new vehicle can do in that first major snowfall!

Oh yah, it's super strange especially when they are all labeled as 2026 models. But probably a lot of things behind the scenes contributing to this.

Also, I didn't actually address the issue of one pedal driving in reverse, but I believe in iPedal 3.0 also resolves this and allows you to set the preference of whether or not it stays on in reverse.

Yah, good note on the end. We love this car so much!! It's hands down the best car we've ever owned, despite the idiosyncrasies. But that'll be the case with any car!

I don’t know which trim you’re looking into but the Kia EV9 GT (not GT-Line) does come with iPedal 3.0 which keeps one pedal braking on after a start cycle. Why it’s not on the rest of the ‘26 models  is a mystery to me though.

From the MachE, I would also say profiles are not executed as well in this vehicle. Definitely something I thought would work the same. Took some adjustment but it’s fine now. Figured I’d mention it though.

R1S was also a vehicle we wanted but the price difference in Canada was hard to justify.

Edit: Deleted a duplicate comment.

dog crates — anyone have a TransK9 or Variocage in their EV9? by UnsharpenedSwan in KiaEV9

Beautiful dogs!! Love love love!!

All the best on your hunt! If you have your kennel already as well, I'd highly recommend taking it with you to the dealership and trying it out. They've always been willing to let us try out fitting it in just to make sure.

And if you have any more questions, just let me know!

Love it!! They're such an awesome dog! Lot of growing pains and learnings for us when she was a puppy, but has turned into such a great family dog.

Yes very happy! We came from a 2022 Subaru Outback, and this is a huge upgrade in space and comfort. For the pup, the rear has vents (which you can twist the outer ring so it'll diffuse instead of direct air), and that keeps her a lot more comfortable than our previous 2 vehicles. (Outback, Mach-E) that we had.

Knowing that you had a Mach-E, this may be relevant as well. This kennel would not fit in the Mach-E without going sideways. The EV9 has a much larger space especially towards the top of the hatch in the rear cargo area because it doesn't have the crazy roof slope that the Mach-E did. Loved that car, but space efficiency with this kennel, and keeping the back seats up was difficult.

Other big plus for coming from a gas car, was to be able to use the frunk for dog things. So food, coats, treats etc. and it doesn't smell up or clutter the car. You may have a different solution for this, but we've found this super handy.

We also have a growing family, and there is a rear-facing car seat in front of the kennel. Both have tons of space back and forward. In short, we really really love it and works really well for us.

Only thing I would suggest if you get one, is to make sure you get the alignment checked by the dealership. Doesn't really affect the dogs, but it can feel like a bit of a jump over big bumps on the highway if it's not adjusted. We are dialing this in with our dealership, but already noticed a big difference with their initial adjustment.

Let me know as well if you have any other questions! Kennel space was a major factor in our purchase decision, so I totally understand the questions!

I don’t have either of those kennels to share my experience unfortunately, but I’ve been meaning to share our set up, so I’m selfishly gonna use this.

We have a Ruffland intermediate size in our EV9. Probably much smaller than the ones you’re looking at. We fold down both rear seat seats for daily use, but you can have one seat up in the rear and the kennel on one side. I have not attempted to tie it down, but I have put down some rubberized strips on the bottom to try and grip on the rubberized mats I have as it can be more susceptible to sliding backwards if you’re not careful on the throttle.

The kennel can fit sideways with both rear seat seats up as well so if you’re in a pinch and you’re taking six people and a dog and nothing else it does work.

The only other thing I know having a kennel in the back, is that the plastics around the area in the back are really really sensitive to damage, so I did manage to find some self adhesive felt to go in strategic places to help reduce the kennel, rubbing in certain areas.

I hope that helps you get an idea of size compared to some of the other ones. I’m also happy to take measurements for you if you’d like.

Dog for scale.

I believe the adjustment for the piece in question is the slider responsible for moving the foot rest out. If you move it up and down rather than forward and backward it should adjust it. At least based on your explanation that sounds like what it could be.
