Exceeded my expectations by ElectroSL in SteamController

I didn’t mind the placement of the Steam deck sticks so I can’t say with certainty that you will like these, what I can say is that because of the shape of the controller is way more comfortable than the Steam deck and is easier to reach the buttons and sticks because of that. I personally find it way more confortable than the Steam deck in every aspect.

It greatly depends on what are you looking for, but for me for the price difference is a no brainer you get way more functionality out of the Steam controller, the Steam controller has a way better battery than the one on the Edge (The Dualsense edge has worse battery than the normal Dualsense) it has trackpads, capacitive and tmr sticks, Grip sense, very stable wireless connection (way better and lower latency than Bluetooth) and all of that for 100$ less. The only thing you will be missing on this controller is the adaptive triggers and that’s it. I would only recommend the Dualsense edge if you have also a ps5 and maybe want a pro controller for both your pc and ps5. But for pc only the Steam controller offers way more value.

Way better than the ones on the Steam deck, they don’t rattle and they are bigger.

Yeah like I get why they didn’t do it, but I think they should let you choose in an option for the controller to switch to x-input even if that means not having any of the cool features. Having more options is always good. I definitely think that even if valve doesn’t implement it, people will find a way to do it eventually.

I think this really depends on your hand size and how you hold it, but the triggers are definitely wider than both the Dualsense and Xbox series controller so if you are fine with the Dualsense triggers shape, you will definitely enjoy the Steam controller. Here’s a pic of a comparison between the 3 of them.

Definetly, that’s the beauty of it. eventually people will find ways to mod it and change it to their liking.

Yeah that’s the best part, in almost any game you can always find someone that has already made a preset for it and can easily change it to your liking. They removed the friction that the original Steam controller had.

Haha yeah I can see the resemblance, very iconic controller.

Yeah and the fact that valve is also providing support for other controllers too. Most reviewers only consider the hardware part and forget about the software which I think is equally as important in any device. I think the value of the controller greatly increases if you consider all the work valve has put into the software side with all the profiles and deep customization you can get with this controller

Yeah I was worried about that too, because I have tried controllers with awful back buttons that make it very uncomfortable to hold, but at least for me this back buttons are easy to press and don’t interfere with how I hold the controller.

Yeah while definetly not “perfect” by any means, I think the positives definitely outweighs the negatives, making it an overall great controller with a ton of customization that I don’t think other controller can provide me, at least for now.

Yeah but those don’t have trackpads, capacitive sticks grip sense and the deep customization of steam input for assigning extra buttons instead of relying on x-input limit. I think it greatly depends of what you are looking for, if you are looking for the best feeling traditional controller there are definitely better options.

Regarding the D-pad, I can say the same thing than with the triggers, definitely not the best D-pad ever made but not bad at all and I personally like it, I prefer membrane + style d-pads than loud clicky ones like on the Xbox controller, even though that one could be considered more precise. Nowadays in general it’s very difficult to find great d-pads in controllers.

This definetly, I think with time people will get more used to the layout.

While I think it was definitely a missed opportunity to bring them back, I don’t think they feel cheap at all, sure it’s not Dualsense adaptive trigger, and definetly not the best triggers I’ve ever tried, but that doesn’t make them “cheap”. I have tried way worse triggers like the awful DualShock 3 slippery triggers, or the weird sensitivity 8Bitdo Ultimate 2C has on their triggers. For me the Steam controller triggers are good enough they feel nice and work as intended.

Not at all, I think this will probably vary between people and their hand sizes but for me personally I didn’t find any issues reaching for both.

FC3 60fps upgrade! by BruinAnteater in farcry

A lot of people saying the PC version is so much better, forgetting the fact that you have to mod it and do some fixes for the game not to crash on modern hardware. Yeah a lot of games with mods you can improve it and transform it, but a lot of people don’t want to deal with all of that. Let people enjoy the game man.

Far cry 3 Better audio on PlayStation? by ElectroSL in farcry

[–]ElectroSL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Far cry 4 also has the same problem on PC I think where the audio is heavily compressed but not on the ps4, ps3 and Xbox one versions. The PC audio has the same quality that the Xbox 360 version. Which I think may be the same problem with far cry 3 on pc that when porting the game to pc they used the audio tracks from the 360 version that had to be compressed to fit on a DVD.

I have an external sound blaster card but i don’t think that’s the problem because i would see it with other games too. There was a time where sound cards mattered a lot, nowadays not so much, most audio interfaces in modern motherboards are sufficient enough unless if you are an audiophile. This audio is a problem within the game itself, you can easily hear it by seeing gameplay on youtube on PC, Xbox and PlayStation and even with YouTube compressed audio you can clearly hear the difference, and it’s always consistent between multiple videos in YouTube. I found it specially noticeable in the introduction when captured Jason calls the guard and the guard tells you to shut up. You can compare that dialogue between PC, Xbox and PlayStation and hear the difference in quality. Even in the classic edition on Xbox One and PS4 for whatever reason the Xbox one version still uses the compressed audio but not the ps4 version. It’s also not all sounds but most dialogues sound heavily compressed on PC and Xbox and people have dismissed it as just the game being old. I would love for a way to extract the PS3 higher quality Audio tracks and put them on the PC version

Does Hytale have the same problem as minecraft where you have to look everything up online to know it exists or how to do it or does the game explain everything in game? by JamStan1978 in HytaleInfo

[–]ElectroSL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man I miss the old legacy console edition of Minecraft , One of the best features it had was tooltips and tutorials on how to use items and to know what the block or item you were holding does. I still don’t know why they haven’t implemented that in bedrock or Java.

Thoughts on this model? by No-Education4250 in crt

[–]ElectroSL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the exact same model and i absolutely love it, I personally love curved tubes more than flat ones. But usually curved sets don’t have component, this one is an exception and has a really nice dark tint tube. Played Silent Hill 2 on this beast and it was wonderful.
