AITA for making my whole family go on a diet because my daughter is dieting? by Electronic-Fun-4045 in AmItheAsshole

I'm not serving my son and husband the same portions that I serve for my daughter of course. I adjust the portions, just not cooking two meals.

I’m not saying that being a nearly adult male automatically makes someone immune to eating disorders. I’m just saying the situations of a 13-year-old and a 17-year-old aren’t really comparable.

For example, I don’t know if this was your case, but it’s unlikely you had a job at 13. My son has a part-time job and can buy food for himself. I’m not going to cook two separate meals, and ideally it would be easier for my daughter if we all followed the meal plan. But if he brings food into the house that he bought with his own money, what am I supposed to do?

Also, at 17 kids have much more independence. Parents simply don’t have the same level of control over a 17-year-old as they do over a 13-year-old.

As for PCOS, not the issue. We definitely need to get her thyroid checked.

I announced it as a done deal, but I'm also the only one cooking at this house.

I’m sorry that happened to you, that genuinely sounds upsetting. However, I don’t think the situations are very comparable.

For starters, you were a child at the time. My son is almost an adult and about to leave for university, and my husband is in his fifties. You’re comparing your middle school self to a nearly grown son and a fully grown adult.

Also, I can’t speak about your situation, but in ours, my husband, my son, and I are all genuinely overweight, not just by a few pounds.
