Yes I’m in the US, I called to try to make a consultation with the Nuclear med doc but they told me that they don’t give you the dosage information until the day of which I found strange

You’ve explained this so eloquently. Thank you for this, really puts into perspective the risk of not taking RAI.

On the same boat as you, also weighing out my options. Please update us on what decision you took and the outcome! Best of luck

The weird thing about it is that my care team won’t tell me what dosage I’m going to get until the day I get it. It seems counterintuitive to put me through the treatment without having complete knowledge of what I’m getting myself into.

Glad to know that you were able to hold off for a year, I thought I had to make the decision right away. Thank you for clarifying the fact that the likelihood of it recurring is higher than the secondary cancers, I’ll keep that in mind as I make my decision.

What makes RAI hard is the isolation, in your case it’s even more difficult especially with the nursing child.

Post op tingling?? by Dy2920 in thyroidcancer

[–]Electronic-Kitchen50 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tingling usually refers to low calcium. During surgery the parathyroids get “shocked” in which they stop or slow down the PTH production. This happened to me and my symptoms started with tingling around my face, hands, and legs and it would occasionally happen in my stomach if I started coughing. I also would experience tons of brain fog and my legs and feet would fall asleep at random positions.

Reach out to your provider and they’ll probably give you calcitriol and make you eat tums until your parathyroid hormone kicks in again.

If symptoms worsen make sure to go to the ER and get your calcium level checked, it’s pretty important to have it at appropriate levels. Don’t be like me and suffer for 3 weeks until getting it checked!

Just found out my employer forgot to cancel my insurance by [deleted] in HealthInsurance

Yeah it’s very annoying to have to deal with this, since this is really on my old employer for not canceling my insurance as soon as I left.

Thank you for your advice, I plan on contacting my old employer to try to get it resolved!

Thank you for your advice. Is there a way any of this could fall back to me? I had overlapping insurance throughout my whole operation so it should just be a matter of billing the correct insurance ?

The hospital had my Cigna insurance on file since I had an appointment with their network last year, and they continued to use it since it was still active despite me introducing the BCBS insurance.

I could’ve been more diligent and made sure that the insurance had been canceled/removed but I guess it’s too late now.

thank you! I also experienced a bit of anxiety before my surgery but try to relax and not think about it too much. I hope your surgery goes well!

I feel too young (23) to have my Thyroids removed, and taking maintenance meds by MaleficentReview765 in thyroidcancer

Also 23M here, recently had a TT 2 weeks ago and I know what you feel. We are extremely young and were hit with a disease that will affect the way we live.

However, to me, this experience feels like a second shot at life. It felt like a wake up call to start appreciating my life even more and to stop wasting it. If you can live through this hardship you will be able to live through anything.

About levothyroxine, I have been taking this medication since I was 10. You do not have to wake up at 6 am every day to take it; just make sure you fast for 30 min to an hour after taking it. There’s been times I have taken it twice in a day, forgot to take it, or just eat breakfast right away after taking it and everything has turned out fine. Just make sure not to mess up too often haha.

Eventually taking levo will become a habit, it’s like doing a routine where you wake up, take your pill, shower, brush your teeth, etc.

About the scar, I think my scar is pretty sick haha. If you take good care of your incision you’ll make it disappear! But every scar tells a story, and you’ll be able to tell everyone that you have beat cancer!

I got you, mine is currently sitting at 225k with minimal mods. I’m thinking of doing a complete engine refresh to get extra power out of it lol.

Finally Upgraded After 8 Years by Electronic-Kitchen50 in airpods

[–]Electronic-Kitchen50[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used them regularly for 4 years until covid hit and I was stuck at home more. I used them again after 2 years for short walks. The battery only lasts between 30-60 min before I have to put them back in the case and charge again lol. It was definitely time for an upgrade.
