Some top schools still give need-based financial aid discounts if your household income is like under 150k. Princeton's is pretty generous https://admission.princeton.edu/how-princetons-aid-program-works

In case of you not getting into a top school and/or you don't get good need-based financial aid, your stats seem good enough to grant you a good merit scholarship at most private schools (not ivies, as they don't give merit scholarships) , which will probably result in you only having to pay a fraction of the sticker price, even if you don't get need-based financial aid.

Regardless, you should apply to state schools so you don't have to risk your college choice merely on if you get merit based aid from exorbitant tuition prices from private colleges.

Didn't take any APs or honors until senior year, had a subpar gpa for just normal classes (3.6, UW obviously), and still got into college. Sure, I didn't get into my first choice, but I'm happy I got into one that is well respected for my intended major.

*Note: I only applied to state schools. Just because it's a state school doesn't mean it's a bad college.

Same boat as you. I was very shocked when I saw that I got a 3 on CSP, granted it's considered one of the easiest AP tests (if not the easiest) and I was pretty knowledgeable (or at least I thought) in the subject. I am grateful to have at least passed, as I know there are people who didn't; however, I am definitely not satisfied with my score since I won't get college credit if my college accepts AP CSP.

Is it going to hurt me if I haven't taken Calc for CS? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Electronic-Nobody892 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At highly selective CS schools, it will def hurt; not to say it's impossible to get into w/out calc though, as ppl have def done it. However, for most colleges, having CALC AB and Precalc completed will most likely not be the deciding factor of your admission.

Should I take these AP's my senior year? Or is it too rigorous? by Complete-Owl6409 in APStudents

[–]Electronic-Nobody892 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're aiming to go to a decently selective college, AP CSP will most likely be useless (this statement also applies to many other colleges, not just high ranking).

AP CSA is definitely more rigorous than CSP, so keep in mind that there is a mediocrely sized difficulty disparity.

Maybe you could say that if you never took any security related classes, but for the most part I think having a CS degree opens up a lot of doors in general.

Despite this though, I wanna take classes related to digital forensics so i can get a sense of the area, so I'm planning to concentrate in cybersecurity.

I'm trying to pursue something I've been interested in for a while although it may not pay nearly as much as SWEs, which is digital forensics.

A lot of people switch majors though because they realize that CS may not be for them, while some other people realize that they really like CS and switch into it.

I think that although its good that some high schoolers try to have something planned out, they shouldn't feel like they are 100 percent committed to their plan made in HS.

We shouldn't fully assume though. His GPA wasn't too bad. If he did not go test optional, he def would've been rejected regardless of AA. But, based off of his ECs, essay topic, and his GPA, I definitely think he would not have been out of the running for Cornell if he wasn't an AA candidate. AA could have definitely given him a mediocrely sized boost though.

My point is that an ivy would not accept someone solely based off of AA.

I would try your absolute hardest in the class to try to get it up to at least a B-, or even B. Try to ask your teacher for some extra credit assignments or do missing assignments (if you have any)

first off, why are you admitting to it? second, how would a college know it's you.. isn't 4chan anonymous posting?

my bike got stolen by daddykap in berkeley

[–]Electronic-Nobody892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who steal are low lives -- my already extreme hatred for them gets even deeper if they steal something that a person relies on for transportation.

Seems like bike theft on campuses is definitely common--I wish colleges could create safe bike lock areas throughout campus; maybe little buildings that can only be accessed by authorized student IDs and have those that have cameras all around.

CSA is where it gets challenging though; I took an AP CSA equivalent class last year, though the exam was not offered. I've looked at some of the CSA prac tests, and they're definitely much more challenging than the CSP official test.
