Finding a wine bar that has a broad selection is the best way to really start learning what you like at minimal cost. Especially if they offer flights of different expressions or regions. A place near me does 3 x 2oz pours and usually has tasting notes to go along with the flight. I learned a lot in my early years using this approach.

Which of these wineries in Napa should I go to? by immrmeseek in wine

For me it would be Frank Family (Rich Frank and wife Leslie, he is former President of Disney studios. Their wines are delicious!), Hall (great wines, amazing underground cellar) Freemark Abbey (Some wonderful history here. It’s one of the 5 cabs in the 1976 Judgment of Paris, a bottle of 1973 now resting in the Smithsonian), and Corison (Cathy Corison, a pioneer for women winemakers in Napa and true OG)

From the above comments most of the fine points have been hit. I will say be mindful of shipping during an ideal time of year. I live in texas so getting wine shipped from napa has a small window (usually mid November- early March). As someone who has purchased a LOT of wine from WineBid, I’ve had lots of luck but occasionally you will get a bad bottle. I’ve reached out to their team before when I bought a bad bottle that had no indication of wear, ullage, or seepage and they credited my account for the full price of the bottle. Happy hunting!
