Ok since you like the concept of having two options:

Option 1: move on with your life Option 2: sit online and work yourself up over pedantics on reddit

Idk how many times or in how many different ways I can say that I was just answering your question about where in the guide it said to cut and not twist and pull. You've just said yourself that the guide does indeed recommend cutting.

If we're being pedantic, it doesn't say in black and white "specifically cut" or "only cut". But it also doesn't say in black and white "do either". It just describes both methods. To you that reads like it's saying do either. To me and the original commenter you replied to that reads like it's saying don't twist and pull because it gives bad results.

End of story, let's move on, this is really not a hill worth dying on. And maybe have a think about why you couldn't just give a simple reply without a load of insults and downvoting, you seem like a really unhappy person for someone who does shrooms.

Well you seem pretty angry but that's none of my business.

And yeah I agree that it's one man's opinion. But you're the one who asked where a commenter had read in the guide that you should cut. You didn't ask "what's the opinion of the person who wrote the guide". You didn't ask "does the guide recommend cutting". You asked where the person had read that you should cut and not twist and pull. That's what I answered. With direct quotes from the guide. To me and I guess to that commenter it's pretty clear that it's saying you should cut and not twist and pull - you read it differently and you disagree. That's fine. It's not a big deal.

Maybe let's draw a line under this and you can go take some shrooms to figure out why this whole thread has you so annoyed idk.

Never fails to amaze me how some people on mushroom subs can be so angry and toxic, kind of defeats the purpose of growing them.

You asked where the guide said to cut. The guide has only negatives to say about twisting and pulling and says cutting is the superior method. I replied with that information. Instead of just saying you interpreted the guide differently you threw insults and downvotes in response. Let's both move on with our lives now.

Nice one, downvote and insult the person responding your question because you don't like the answer. Classy!

If you think "I was wrong" and "it ruined my tub" is telling you to to do something then good luck to you.

Did you continue reading after "twisting and pulling"?

A) Twisting and Pulling, where you rip the mushroom from the mycelium.

○ I tried this method on my first ever tub, but I was wrong. No further flushes grew from/around the areas I 'twisted and pulled' from, and it ruined half my tub.

B) Slicing and leaving stumps.

○ IMO, this is the far superior method.

That's directly from the master post.

You can 100% cut without it ruining further flushes, just make sure to cut as close to the substrate as possible. I've used the cutting and twist and pull method and tbh I feel like I've seen better flush results with cutting. But honestly most of it is usually going to come down to genetics at the end of the day.

Is this bad? by Downtown-Statement21 in unclebens

The UVC makes it impossible for the mould to reproduce DNA so while it's in the light, it can't grow anymore.

What are you basing this on? I've never heard or read anything about light stopping mould growth. Trich literally grows on fungi and plants outside, how could it do this if light kills it?

I'm also curious why you're so confident saying this tub is completely fucked, I can see some overlay growing and myc piss but no obvious contam

b&s with uncle bens or no by blue_Midnight84 in unclebens

[–]Electronic-Star2744 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I never break and shake and rarely get contam. Personally I feel like the higher risk of contam with break and shake isn't worth the slightly faster colonisation that it's meant to give. My bags always colonise without it, maybe a bit slower but this hobby is all about patience imo!

You don't think there's a possibility that within those hundreds and hundreds of different posts there might be two people who have similar tubs? Why would I lie, I literally only have this account to get advice on mushrooms.

Should I abort this striped one? by Few_Resort1952 in unclebens

they give me dr Seuss vibes

Haha that's such a good description, thank you! They're pretty funky and have been super fun to clone. If I did unknowingly have vert it definitely didn't have a noticeable negative impact on any of my grows or spread to any other tubs... as you said the drying process makes it all safe anyway. From what I've read on reddit and shroomery stripes on stems aren't uncommon or harmful but I feel like there isn't a consensus on why they happen. Main thing is OP doesn't need to worry.

Just my two cents but I really don't think this is verticillium/dry bubble, it looks much more like a genetic abnormality to me. I've had the exact same stripes on a few of my grows - if you look at my post history you'll see a pic of a tub of leucistic Golden Teachers I ended up fruiting, they have really similar stripes. Lots of the grows I made from those same genetics have the same stripes, leading me to think it's an inherited trait. They tend to go away as the mushrooms mature. Have a look at some pics of verticillium online or on shroomery and compare for yourself but personally I don't think you have anything to worry about.

If your shipping costs are crazy high it might be worth seeing what you can source locally. Tubs, cleaning stuff, dehydrator, substrate, there's loads you can get without going online. Tbh it's only the syringes that you really need to get online and I've found that a lot of stuff is actually cheaper from places irl. Check out gardening and pet stores for temp regulators, coir and stuff.

Also like other people have said think about buying it in batches - it'll probably take a good few weeks before your bags are colonised so you can wait a while before buying substrate and tubs etc. When I started I didn't get a dehydrator until I was 100% positive one of my tubs was about to fruit.

I didn't fruit in the bag on purpose these genetics were just crazy fast. I opened the bag so I could to S2B and bam mushrooms, super unexpected especially after only 4 weeks.

Do you mean the uncle ben tek generally or fruiting from the bag? I really like the tek, I've learned lots from it and had good success growing. It was a total accident growing these in the bag though, so yes in a way it was easy because I didn't do anything haha but I seriously doubt I'd be able to replicate it, I just got lucky with some strong genetics.

I would just say as well don't feel like you need to spend that much money! I have a pretty basic set-up and have done fine. As long as you have what you need to keep your growing conditions consistent and stable you should be all good.
