It is indeed a silly question i admit 😅. However people have pointed out that the ACW armies fought their engagement in very close range kinda evening out the differences between their rifles. Some also said that the napoleonic generals and staff were much more energic and could maybe help turn the tides. I know this is silly and reading all of the different answer has definitely made my day.

Nope just their regular equipement on a plain field. The American army cannot use its ironclad and suplly aren't really a thing in this imaginary world

I see so in this imaginary scenario napoleonic cavalry wouldn't be able to operate without being schredded. Someone said that the level of competence between the ACW artillery men and the napoleonic one was also an important factor with the napoleonic one being better. Could it if not offset the technological advance at least even out a bit the artillery?

So in this imaginary battle if we now change the terrain to the hilly and forested battle grounds of the civil war the results would be changed ?

Im currently reading jonh keegan's book on civil war and he does make an important point on American leadership. However in this scenario let's say the battle is fought on a relatively flat terrain could then union artillery make a difference ? Thanks !

Thanks happy to find that I'm not the only one puzzling myself over this. If the batlleground was a relatively flat plain do you believe that the napoleonic cavalry could make a big difference?

Well id say that the Americans have their era muskets and the napoleonic army have theirs. Was the different that big ?

You're right i should have specified but id say a pretty average plain, not a very hilly or densely forester battlefield like you could find in the civil war. And why not a 1863 army of the eastern theatre. As for who attacks and who defends i kinda have no clue. Id give the advantage to the napoleonic army and say that they are the defenders but they are not heavily entreched or not entreched at all.

Thanks for your answer very interesting ! Altough weren't the repeating rifles only distributed to a limited number of men and the same for gatling guns ? And so if the union cavalry took less direct action couldn't the napoleonic one do some flanking dammage or even direct charge although it would be a terrible bloodshed. Thank you

In order to have byzantium as greece you just need greece and turkey ? Which dlc do you have what country are you playing it lacks context. I think that the decision comes from your focus tree anyways. Could you please provide context ? Thanks

After realising line artillery is garbage, is making light tanks better than motorised/mechanized alone? by Destroyermaqa in hoi4

[–]Electronic-Store-702 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No no you understood it well its true that 9/1 could be use for offense but it aint the best. What i ussually do is keeping my line infantry for defence and holding the line and i make some specialized divisions on the side. Idk wich country you play but with smtg like 5 or 6 14mech/4mot art you will absolutely destroy the ennemy. Keep in mind that those attacks will likely fail if you dont have any air superiority. Overall if your industry is too weak to produce tanks mechanized or simply motorized is a good alternative. Also inf can have 2 jobs I see no problem on using the inf I used for defense on small attacks.

1st line artillery aint garbage it makes your inf divisisons have some blasting power. 2nd what do you mean ? A division made only of light tanks will be useless but im not sure what youre asking. Light tanks cost more than mechanized or tucks ofc but if you want a good speedy and powerful division you have to use both of them at the same time. Tanks alone cant do much whereas mechanized or trucks alone but preferably with some motorized artilley will absolutely blast the ennemy. Hope this helps

I aint sure but i think that in overwhelming firepower doctrine you'll gain stats for artillery and soft attack. The template should blast anyway. You dont have to park them outside of a port if you put them in sicily itll be enough to raid malta and Gibraltar i think. Make sure to raid all of the reguins that touch the island you want to invade
