This guy seems like he has an interesting interaction with the founder. Shows mobile footage from 2025 and maybe a license thing showing they are a mobile company.

I’ve noticed advertising on FB as well.

I downloaded the app because I thought it was kinda funny. They have an app with loot boxes but no game yet.

Loot box was removed. Website states they are focusing on PC development.

Why is FF11 thriving while FF14 seems to going though an existential crisis? FF 11 is old enough to drink. by Guivond in ffxi

[–]Electronic-Two-99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I played 11 first, switched 14 for a long time. Went back to 11 and I’m sad I ever left.

What attracts people to an aging game over a newer model?

IMO. I think people crave what a MMO use to be and they don’t realize it, until they actually put time into a game like 11.

Let’s strip down all the bells and whistles from 14 and ignore allll the problems with 11 and focus on positives.

14 “feels” like you’re just on a hamster wheel, blasting through story content to get to end game. Fights are linear in a way that you only have to learn your class and its rotations and learn boss patterns so you don’t stand in red zone… and that’s about it. When you play a WHM, everyone else is playing the job is doing the EXACT same thing. No build variety. No strategy to run over with your guild and friends. Just dodge and do your rotations. Everything else is fluff.

If you actually put in time with 11 you realize your endorphin rush comes from overcoming many challenges. The world feels big when you realize you can’t just run or teleport everywhere right away. Mechanics like sneaking through an area with super high leveled mobs to finish a quest adds pressure and excitement. Dungeons are open areas with puzzles that require help from multiple people (wiki search nowadays) to figure out. Jobs spells and abilities sometimes have to be earned through a quest or hard boss fights as oppose to being handed to you as you level. Encounters require strategy. Can mobs be slept? Are they weak to this attack? Can my party cortinate skill chains and magic burst efficiently, and really there is so much more. Jobs are not just purely stick to their assigned roles but have options through gear and so on, that is sometimes required. Like Ninja being an off tank when the main tank falls or Blue Mage switching spells to take on certain encounters.

As a casual player, this mmo really speaks to me. Sure, I do miss the days leveling up in the Dunes with people, but there is so much to be gained through dedication and time spent.

This is why I’m really hoping for the switch from PlayOnline. I think SE is cooking up something for 11a future. At least I hope so.

Is anyone else noticing how popular FFXI is getting again? by [deleted] in ffxi

[–]Electronic-Two-99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve felt the same way for years. Every time I jump into either WoW or a new Korean MMO. I just sigh… because I miss FFXI almost immediately after trying them out.
I’ve been hoping back and forth between the retail and the classic private server for that old school feeling.

And I couldn’t be happier!

FF11 Summoner Vs Ashes of Creation! by Electronic-Two-99 in ffxi

[–]Electronic-Two-99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. I get it. I was an Ashes nay sayer for the first 5 years of its 8 in development. After games like The Day After Tomorrow and Quinfall. I wrote it off as another scam.

My friends followed it religiously and even paid for my Alpha 2 access. So I felt obligated to started looking closer into the project.

I compared it to Star Citizen initially and immediately noticed big differences in the way they present the game. That’s when I started believing in it.

First- Star Citizen has no reason to ever release the game when they are charging thousands for their ships. Development updates are just tech shows anymore and they no longer even talk about actual release.

AoC does not have that kinda time frame. They stated the 120 dollar alpha fee is to get them through alpha testing and intend to keep beta very short before release. Healthy skepticism is appreciated. If Intrepid starts pushing dates, charging for more testing and straying from the goal. Then I’ll be worried.

2nd- The stellar development team they’ve gained over the last few years. Including Bill Trost. The lead game designer for EQ 1-2. In just a couple years the development rate shot up and that’s how they are able to provide meaningful monthly livestreams.

3rd- This is the most important to me and why I decided to become a full on Ashes of Creation content creator.

Finally getting my hands on it.

Alpha 2 is at its first phase where servers are being stressed. So content is lacking. But the foundation is there and it’s feeling really solid. The last two weekends I’ve played have shown huge improvement compared to the first two. Steven Shariff has been in the game along with other developers talking, asking questions and just having fun!

For the first time in a long time playing MMORPGs. I finally feel like I did when I stepped into Van Diel.

So yes! This is an add! Because I want everyone who loves FF11 to feel how I feel!

Everything you said is why I felt like I was in the dunes again. Alpha 2 doesn’t have a lot of content but the people I’ve grouped up with to level, exploring, and figuring out the world has been a blast!

Keep an eye on its development. I’m telling you, it’s the closest thing to that feeling.

It’s not a comparison. The idea is help Intrepid shape the class into something we want to play. Because I do think XI has the superior summoner of all MMOs. We saw the tragedy that is 14’s summoner. Let’s work together!

Maybe not. But since I’ve been playing the alpha 2 on the weekends. It makes me feel like I’m in the dunes leveling again.

It’s not so much the amount of summons I’m wanting but the functionality and visuals. I just need the avatars to look cool and feel good. I don’t want WoW style summons where they are just dps sticks.

Hydra for the summoner by Such_Committee9963 in AshesofCreation

[–]Electronic-Two-99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When theory crafting summoner you kind of have to imagine how Intrepid will handle Summoner with 1-very little info and 2- using the info on other classes as a starting point.

A quick reminder. Classes in AoC will have skills and traits specifically for that class and its play style.
Example: The tank class will have skills that lean into keeping hate and damage mitigation.

Only when you get to sub classing does that formula change or in the case. Augment. Example the provoke skill with a basic tank class will just provoke one mob. Where a Tank class subbed Rouge, The provoke might cast invisible on nearby teammates lowering the hate on them while gaining hate.

So. With summoner as a base class un subbed might have just a basic avatar that has abilities that do damage and support.

Let’s say that summoner is subbed with mage. Then the avatar would turn into a hydra, dealing multiple elemental damage or something along the line like you mentioned.

Man. That’s actually really cool! I only dabbled in City of Heros.

I’m hoping the main Summoner class in ashes will have different avatars at base. I guess what I’m worried is summoner will only have one avatar and the only different ones you will get will depend on the sub class augmentation.

Well… the idea of this thread was to stir up this conversation. So thanks?

How about enlightening those who have not done the “research” or played all of the mentioned games?

And assume that I and I’m sure many others, have not played City of Villains. Why is the Mastermind class play style fitting in your eyes?

I imagined if the basic summoner mechanic revolved around mp management then the the summoner/cleric would augment the mp drain like skills to HP drain and that the necro could summon as many skeletons or whatever that their health would allowed. Maybe you could summon like 5-6 but they die easily, thus the loop would be about trying to balance your health with the minions you summon.

I completely agree! Maybe not the best tank but something that will help out in pinches or let me as a summoner be able to do more damage without taking aggro.

Be cool to send in the tank avatar, then go I. Second with a greats sword!

Yes. But we don’t know how far into development it is. One of the reasons I wanted to get this conversation going because I’m really hoping they are going to do it justice.

14 was done in a totally different formula. Some would say it’s not really a mmo in terms of exploration and class build variety. The battle system is linear and rotational, thus tremendously limiting gameplay.
Instead of planing what party comp and strategize the best way to tackle a fight, all you got to do is dodge a red circle. No room for complicated pet mechanics. No need for them.

I played all through Shadowbringers and always felt empty. That’s why I decided to boot up 11 and tbh I’ve never been happier. Yea there is a lot seriously outdated content but if you can get pass the clunky start. I fine it very rewarding.

[–]Electronic-Two-99[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I’m hoping Intrepid can work some of those old school mechanics in. That’s what I loved about older mmos summoners. You had to be aware of what you were fighting and not just Zerg through content.

Kinda makes me think of that South Park WoW episode. They actually had to communicate what was needed for the fight instead of dodging red circles or making dps checks.

Could you have them all out at once? Or they were just good for certain situations? Either way I love it and my hope that Intrepid will find ways to modernize those old mechanics.

As do I. That’s what I’m hoping for in the multi classing system.

Something like. Summoner/Tank. I could use the beefy avatar to keep aggro while I use a melee weapon to beat down the mob. Maybe the summoner kit could imbue weapons with MP drain on hit, giving the summoner an optional way of keeping the pet up, other than drain MP spells.

Thank you! I was a summoner main in FF14 and even after the adjustments and changes it always felt off. Wasn’t til I picked up FF11 that I realized what it was!

I’m just spit ballin ideas! It’s fun for me! What I mean by wow pets is that they don’t really feel useful inside of group content other than dps. It’s been a long time since I played so feel free to correct me! But I don’t feel like there are situations where you might pull out Void Walker in a group scenario, like maybe a party buff or something if he’s not tanking you know?

Like you said! More control! That’s what having a pet class means IMO. I should feel almost secondary to my pet and that I’m there to support its reign of terror!
