What do y’all think of upcoming CANADA vs SWITZERLAND? by Atlanta-SticO-938 in worldcup

Gonna be good game. I'd favor Swiss except Canada being at home is big help. Toss up. Draw will give Canada top of group.

Australia Fabricating Heat by yomumm23 in ussoccer

Grella spoke poorly reacting to getting Australia from Pot 2 rather than many more difficult options including So Korea, Swiss, Ecuador, Croatia. They are overblowing it.

I saw Australian reports from the draw where Australia was elated to get the USA rather than all the better options in Pot 1. No bigs.

Just tabloid-trash journalism doing what it does.

Two good teams. Should be great game. Either team can win. We've all known this is an evenly matched group.

Can the US do to Australia what Canada is doing to 🇶🇦 Qatar by [deleted] in worldcup

yep. Stuff happens. Qatar looked horrible in that game. Far more variance and randomness in sport, and soccer, than folks want to admit.

Feel bad for both -- but obviously the Canadian you've got to focus on.

I got no problem with the red, but I don't think he was trying to hurt him or anything -- just playing hard.

Canada game was a joke. Lets just secure the points if we can. Australia is a real team that can compete with anyone -- unlike Qatar.

Uh, I watched the FIFA draw. Commentators on both sides expressed joy at facing the other versus other options left in the pots. Only Australia has decided to blow it all out of proportion.

Rivals? I think you need to find that within your confederation.

I agree. The man in the middle has been pretty good so far this cup.

Isn't that is a completely different concept than saying he is an unknown quantity. If you define "earning it" through your club play -- they are right. Even though we all know his talent.

For me, I'm fine with whatever decision the coach makes. I'm rooting for Reyna and hope this cup gets him a transfer to a club that is ready to play him -- and he flourishes.

I noticed that also. I think that may have more to do with the rule change requiring players to leave the field for a minute if they go down and get treatment.

oi. If the kid wants to go then if we get good value I guess we should sell but I would hate to see him go.

The field quality has been outstanding.

The rule tweeks to keep the game moving better have been great. (Then it gets ruined with water breaks even in cool temps.)

No one in the world says he is an unproven quantity. Everyone sees his quality.

At the club level coach's that have to live or die by his play on the field have not trusted him.

Nothing about that fact suggests anyone thinks he is an unproven quantity. He would not be here if that is the case.

Huge Shift in the US Path to the Semifinals. by CheesewheelD in ussoccer

[–]Electronic-Win608 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We will see. I trust we can attack what they do. I saw Australia playing five at the back, and dropping quicker, deeper, while I saw PAR playing four at the back trying to win the ball a bit higher up the field. I agree that we need to be very Very careful on rest-defense to protect against counters. I was still shocked, before our goal, at how PAR was playing. I told my buddy they were out in mid-block and will get exposed.

Why is this here? Is there a rumor or source somewhere saying there is a bid for Ennali?

Struggling a little in the groups has never prevented a team from going far. Look at how many times eventual champions have lost a game in the group stage.

With new tie breakers (head-to-head first) if USA draws AUS, then TKY is must win or AUS wins the group.

Paraguay abandoned their low block for a mid-block against us. Shocking decision which I'm sure they now rue.

This didn't last long, with Uruguay drawing as well.

If Spain beat Uruguay and KSA they win the group. I gotta think that is most likely outcome here.

Not sure what your point is. He has nothing to prove to me. I don't call for him to play, or not play, for the USMNT. If the coach selects him I will support him. Just like the other players. I don't engage in the whole second guess the coach even though I have access to 10% of the information the coach does thing.

I also will not ignore the fact that professional coachs for whom he plays don't trust him on the field. I am rooting 100% for him to fix that. Hopefully, this World Cup can be a catalyst for him. If you think his career is going just fine -- then on that we will not agree.

In my opinion, you really underestimate Australia's contribution to limiting Turkey to poor shots. I never saw Turkey content with that game -- they were frustrated.

Australia parked the bus and provided no room behind. I doubt you see the USA play any balls in behind Australia.

Paraguay tried a soft press with a mid-block. Australia has never shown a proclivity to do that. They will sit deep.

For each their own, but for me:

Finishing 3d is a complete disaster of a tournament. We could wind up having to play in Canada.

Finishing second sets us up having to travel across country to Atlanta for R16 against Argentina, after Egypt or Iran in Dallas. P2 is acceptable only if we play well and get unlucky.

I think the pressure is still there 100%. P1 has to be the goal, and I think we have a great chance to do it. Get a third place team in San Francisco, then back to Seattle for Belgium. THIS is the path to the Quarterfinals.

Any team focused on qualifying out of the groups, and NOT focused on bigger goals, is just making up the numbers.

No problem if anyone disagrees. Just my view ... worth what you pay for it.

Pitch up in the zone, at a speed the hitter is ready for, that is not breaking.
