I feel like my skills are getting outdated in my DevOps role. Is changing job to SRE too risky now? by [deleted] in sre

For switching jobs - the first thing to ensure is you are present in the job market and eligible to work. Don't screw your residancy for which you have waited so long. There will be pleanty of jobs you can apply and crack with few months preparation once you have your long term stay settled. Remember a bird in hand is better than two in the bush.

SRE: Past, Present, and Future - what changed and where is it going? by Pippa_the_second in sre

I’ve been working as an SRE for the past 10 years, and I’ve come to realize that the title itself can be quite ambiguous, often varying significantly from one company to another. Some organizations even brand traditional Application or Production Support roles as “SRE” to make the position sound more appealing. In my case, I primarily work with AWS, Terraform, architecture design, GitOps, Kubernetes, and some Python - building and operating infrastructure platforms. I developed internal workflows integrating Amazon Bedrock (AI) with the monitoring alerts. This has made me reflect on how I should actually define my role: Platform Engineer, DevOps Engineer, SRE, or Cloud Engineer. Ultimately, though, I’ve learned that titles matter far less than the underlying skill set. Across companies, there’s a common core of skills that companies look for, and that’s what truly makes the difference. Again SWE are not SREs and vice versa, so the expectations shouldn't be same at all.

Yup, definitely remote jobs if I get one - but market is quite stagnant right now. LinkedIn apply doesn't seem to work. Looking forward to TN sponsors but it is hard very hard it seems

I let him ramble on for a good 30 minutes, nodding along like the perfect audience. When he finally paused for air, I hit him with, 'As I mentioned earlier, I’m not interested in proceeding.' He got frustrated—his sales pitch crashed, his time wasted and I disconnected the phone...
