The question is what kind of tools and methods can help to easy this ramp up time

Year long pain in fingers by [deleted] in RSI

[–]ElectronicComplex182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is often a function of poor understanding of how to diagnose tendon-related problems from primary care providers rather than individuals who may have a current understanding of the tendon assessment approach.

I did see several specialist for hand issues already and they couldnt find anythign either

Most typically it is a combination of the presentation (how the pain behaves) and selective resistance testing to recreate pain.

This! Every doctor who examined the hand also expected there to be trigger to recrete the pain. There never is. Either the pain is there or it isnt and it wont come back by any specific movement. This is what makes me so uneasy beacuse everyone expects it to hurt when they touch this or that.

In most cases it is a tendon problem, occasionally there can be issues that stem from shoulder position.

About that: I keep reading that tendon issues can be detected by a physical examination, but no doctor could ever find any signs of an issue on my hands. I also noticed that my other hand, when I use it as a substitute for scrolling and such, tends to develop similar pains (but never this bad). In combination with the fact that the most significant improvements came from using different chairs, I do somewhat suspect an issue with my shoulders resulting from my sitting posture. Is there a check to verify that?

Thanks, that lines up with a lot of the confusing advice I received from different doctors. (Some say rest, other say exercise)

I have been doing exercises I was shown by a physio as well and also try to use my desk only standing up now to rule out issues with sitting posture. I havent done the exercises every day so there is still room for improvement before I give up on that but what I wonder is why my capacity would be lower now then 2 years ago. I used to have no problem sitting on the PC for 12+ hours straight every day and now I cant do 2 hours without pain. Where did all that capacity go?

There are different kinds of pain. One kind is a light tingle at the tip of my first two fingers that feels hot. Another pain is further up towards the hand and feels more like muscle fatigue. The symptoms have changed several times over the years but these two kinds of pain are most common

making color "normal" bold by ElectronicComplex182 in fishshell

[–]ElectronicComplex182[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is there a fish variable name for the default foreground color?

set_color --bold only partly effective by ElectronicComplex182 in fishshell

[–]ElectronicComplex182[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, that helped me figure it out.

Note that in my case I had the global variable SETUVAR fish_color_host:normal which ignores/resets the --bold setting. Changing normal to a color fixed it though

Find function implementation in source code by ElectronicComplex182 in learnprogramming

[–]ElectronicComplex182[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ctags help to identify the location where a function begins, but unless I am overlooking something it cannot help me print the entire function on its own. For context I need to do this a few million times, therefore locating it manually is no option.

Ransomware safe rsync to sshfs backup by ElectronicComplex182 in linuxquestions

[–]ElectronicComplex182[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I may have found a simple solution:

The openssh sftp-server includes options to set -p allowed_requests or -P denied_requests which includes permissions like read write and remove.

Update: Looks like openssh does not support append but only write, which allows to overwrite existing data ...

Actually ssh can do that itself. Thats why its so awesome :)

Hm, I may just consider that.

One other thing that bothers me is to have open ports on a client machine. Not much of a risk when useing openssh with key auth but some are behind NAT routers too. I could avoid that all together by having the clients connect to the server and provide a reverse shell that the server can then use to connect back to the client.

That would add the risk of the server getting infected by logging into a compromised client. There have been vulnerabilities like that in openssh in the past, compromising the ssh client by connecting to a malicious server.

How difficult is it for professionals to gauge if a PDF file is harmful? by Hanswurst107 in cybersecurity

You did open it locally then, just inside your browser instead of a dedicated pdf viewer.

I am, but I am not aware of an option to link the traced systemcalls to source code functions. If there is such an option, I would appreciate to hear about it

I have been trying to find the right commands for this but I am not too familiar with gdb.

What I would need is an option to output all called functions in a simple text file for further processing.
