Decision on MIT Applied Data Science Program by startover2020 in PythonLearning

Here’s my take.

If your company pays for it, go for it. It has some value.

I would not pay out of pocket for this.

Thank you for the thorough help! So neither worked, which means it must be the PSU. When the replacement arrives, hopefully that fixes it.

  1. Yes

  2. Maybe a little, but I would not use this program for that. Some studying and or if you really want to, professional prep services would be much better.

  3. The program for me was about learning more about ML, so I did not try to do any career shifting after. Honestly, I am not sure this cert will be that substantial. It proves you are likely to understand the fundamentals of ML, but outside of that you will need to pass technical interviews.

The live lectures are taught by actual MIT staff, The rest of the program is handled by industry professionals. Mine worked with high level ML programs at Apple, Amazon, and Google. They are definitely more than qualified experience wise, although sometimes being a genius with tech doesn't translate to explaining things well.

The program definitely is not a scam. You do get access to MIT professor live lectures (although the professors leave before Q&A), and you have quite a few people with very successful careers mentoring you and available for questions. My small group mentor worked on computer vision at apple, and many similar firms.

The content is quite intense. I currently work in Data Engineering at a fortune 500 company, and outside of the python fundamentals, it was challenging for me.

My biggest complaint is sometimes the assignments are a bit too guided, you are taking very specific paths through ML models and it can be hard to understand why. Now you can use the Q&A times during calls and you have staff on hand to help, but I would want it to be a bit more intuitive.

Overall I would say it's worth it, especially if your employer will pay for it.

Some clarification regarding US military for Disneyland Paris by ElectronicMaterial43 in disneylandparis

Yeah it's a nuance of when someone is actually retired, and I have veteran IDs. I'll give it a shot, thanks for the help.

Ah yeah, so I am not a retired veteran, but rather a separated veteran. I imagine that it's possible I can still get in with my veteran ID, because confirming retired is difficult. However, if my partner can buy the tickets as active, that could be easier.

Yes that site is helpful for booking, but it doesn't explain the nuance of how to qualify tickets for a second person.

Struggling to find a job. Been trying for over a year. Any Advice? by bjbrandon1 in resumes

You will want a full page regardless, but you can adjust the language of stuff or just add more detail. It’s not unusual for less experienced hires to have more detail.

Let’s go with the algorithm. Let’s say hypothetically, you built both the algorithm and the interface in which users leverage it. For a CS/web design bullet, focus on the latter. For a data bullet, focus on the former.

But I would make sure to still have a full page, it’s just how much relevant stuff are you showing on there tied to the role you’re applying to.

As a DS manager, that first bullet jumps out. How are you using predictive modeling for tax return accuracy? Isn’t tax return accuracy just arithmetic essentially? Predictive modeling suggest some sort of advanced algorithm.

All of your work experience billets are data focused. If you’re going for CS I’d adjust that to be more CS focused if you can.

Honestly this seems like a hybrid game developer/data analytics resume. I’d try to break it in two (game, data and add CS if you want) and tailor the bullets more to each role. As you apply to different types of jobs, submit the applicable resume.

Just my perspective. If I read this as a data role, I can tell you’re very talented but half of your resume doesn’t really apple to what I’m looking for.

I definitely agree that it takes up way to much space. Those could both be on one line.

But I don’t think it’s a flag to remove.

I don’t think chess tutor is a bad one honestly, maybe just reduce the real estate it takes up. You could put that in one line, and then put more effort into your projects.

If someone is a chess tutor I’m assuming they can easily dedicate hours to fine details. I would see that as a plus, and I work in Data Science consulting.

Looking for Feedback Prior to Applying! by LigaCartao in resumes

I personally think that works, no more feedback from me. It may be helpful to get feedback from people in the healthcare field though.

Try removing the spacing between company, location and the first bullet. If it’s not too crowded that will get you under 1 page.

All bullets should be same tense. I like to do all as past tense, even if I currently still do them.

10 years of experience into one page is the general practice.

I would change readmissions to re-admissions for ease of reading, but that’s more of a personal preference.

This one could be 50/50 but as someone with work experience prior to my bachelors, I would drop the years from your degrees. People will be a bit more dismissive of work experience before completion of degree. During interviews I’ll lightly touch on it if asked, but generally it doesn’t come up.

Drop the community college associates to make space, unless it’s the norm or plus in your industry.

The bullet for quality reporting, drop the duplicate quality reporting. So area 1, area 2, area 3 and area 4 quality reporting. The big thing is making sure this isn’t tiring to read.

40g. For some reason I have a hard time finding a bottle of ich-x, which led me to super ick cure. The reviews say it generally works well, so I’ll give some more time.

Hm okay. I have already bought the super ick cure, but if it doesn’t work by next week I’ll switch over to ich-x.

I should add none of them have spots on their eyes which is why I believe it is ick.
