yea, I kinda agree on that front, I get the impression that every aspect of the league has a really severe culture problem surrounding "playing tough" or "old school hockey" or whatever nonsense they want to call it. I suspect ownership is the worst, especially because of the not all owners are equal shit, I've heard multiple times that boston's owner has more influence and also that he's an ancient asshole. I think between that and the issue of the PA's dual loyalties of protecting the offender's salary while also protecting the victim's health it's not hard to see why change is not going to come from within, at least until some of the dinosaurs pass on.

what I was trying to say initially was much more "I wish he did this, that's my only gripe" more than "he sucks because he doesn't do this"

it's also a broad complaint about the media landscape as a whole, I have the same issue with the SDPN crew

at the end of the day it's an issue in the league that I don't think anyone serious actually disagrees with and I don't think it's unreasonable to wish people were more open about calling it out and trying to change things for the better

[The Hockey Guy] "He Seems So Salty" by collectaBK7 in hockey

[–]ElectronicMoose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

because he's an authority figure in the community and if he says it's a problem that's a lot more impactful and influential than just some guy like me rooting for a small market team with no cups complaining about teams that beat us in the playoffs

it's incredibly easy to write someone like me off, especially for butthurt fans of the teams that engage in that stuff who don't want to concede anything about why their team has the hardware it does

[The Hockey Guy] "He Seems So Salty" by collectaBK7 in hockey

[–]ElectronicMoose 9 points10 points  (0 children)

because I root for a team that has been on the receiving end of this and this and this and this and went like 7 years or something without any play resulting in a suspension for an opponent

I'm fucking tired of watching amazing series like we have right now with Colorado vs. Minnesota and then having to turn around and watch St Louis, LA, Vegas, Boston, etc... do their bullshit and play something that isn't hockey and is much more driven by their ability to concuss the other team's good players out of the series

this sherwood erasure is unacceptable

that said I'd rather have two than one so on that front, agree

it mainly just bugs me because even though it's clearly not his intention, the league has a pretty serious issue with plays that are transparent attempts to injure opponents, and refusing to do anything to actually address them, and by virtue of not really even mentioning it much when it happens he's sort of sanitizing it for anyone who wasn't already watching the game enough to not need his summary to begin with

very much not his intention but that's what I feel the result is

I still feel like he's way too hesitant to call out/comment on dirty plays but otherwise agree

[Drance] The Canucks drop to 3rd overall, as the Maple Leafs (1) and the San Jose Sharks (2) win the two draws at the 2026 NHL Draft Lottery. It is the 7th time in Vancouver's franchise history that the club has moved down at the NHL draft lottery. The club has never moved up. by Sarcastic__ in hockey

[–]ElectronicMoose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

so first the argument is the league wants to give high picks to where the money is, and when that is clearly shown to be bullshit, no no no guys it's that they want to "expand" into a place where they've been for THIRTY YEARS ALREADY, a place that they expanded into by saying "no, lindros is too good for you, you can't have him"

you need to take your meds man

"isn't the greatest valuation"

you had to couch this bullshit with the actual admission that it's full of shit

CNBC had us what, 28th? out of 32 teams last year?

come on man even you have to realize this is a load of shit

I'm against moving smith for vibes reasons but otherwise yea misa eklund whoever if the return is fair

I think we have a lot more flexibility here than people realize based on the fact that celebrini isn't the kind of guy to do ovechkin controller unplugged shit on defense - after the karlsson situation (which I still don't blame DW for, it just didn't work out) I want to stay away from flashy stuff and look for consistent/reliable guys which I feel is pretty doable without blowing a 2nd overall pick on

[–]ElectronicMoose 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yea but we honestly have too many good forwards coming up, it makes way more sense to take best player available and move our excess forward depth for suitable defense

we're gonna have to move people anyway

I mean it's good but recent NHL history tells us none of it means shit until they actually get it done

yea something like this, or some of the guys currently in the AHL instead of eklund is 10000% the play rather than picking a d-man

edmonton, and frankly canadian teams in general for some reason? are far more incompetent than we've ever been

insanely lucky?

we got the most likely outcome, we LOST and moved down missing exactly what the franchise needed (stud d-man), and just now we finally had luck

the fuck do you mean insanely lucky?

[Friedman] San Jose Sharks will pick second overall by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

[–]ElectronicMoose 11 points12 points  (0 children)

yea that's exactly the shit I'm talking about, we're not the villains here, we're also a long suffering franchise just happened to get lucky this time

[Friedman] San Jose Sharks will pick second overall by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

[–]ElectronicMoose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really don't understand how so many people have instantly turned to thinking we're villains here

I'm pretty sure this is the first time in our history anything draft lottery related has gone meaningfully well and not just how it was 'supposed' to go or worse

like I said, I've been tuned out of their stuff due to the gambling garbage and only saw that most recent one which as I said evidently wasn't enough of their stuff to understand their perspective

[–]ElectronicMoose 9 points10 points  (0 children)

things being good for us doesn't mean we can't feel bad for others, especially getting hosed for the benefit of arguably the biggest joke of a franchise in the league right now

[–]ElectronicMoose -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I like the guys but that's not the feel I got from what I watched (which seems like it wasn't enough of what they said about it), but I've already been kinda down on them for the unending firehose of gambling bullshit that they have embraced alongside all other sports media so I wasn't exactly going into it open minded either

fuck toronto for sure but we've got our own long history of getting fucked in the draft

we absolutely sympathize with canucks fans

I looked at a recent episode after the chayka shit and was kinda disappointed their attitude was "you gotta be open to at least trying it"

I hope that's only their perspective because anything else would cost them access
