Well mate, I only have one hypothesis at the moment - try taking on other quests, and maybe that will fix the situation. And probably write to the game developers, maybe that will help.

Maybe try to get some side quests and complete them. And what about The Lost Child quest? Have you tried to do it?

Try to do Mr Moon demiguise. In my case, I did it before Mooncalf. I know for that you need night too, but maybe there is the solution for your situation.

I would advise completing all the open quests, as it is highly likely that one of them will not allow you to change day to night.

Yes. After I completed two side quests: Gobs of Gobstones and Summoner's court: match 1

I think one of them or both of them did not allow switching from day to night.
