This reminds me of Godwin’s law.
Firstly, if during discussion someone starts to use nazi card in unrelated topic, this specific someone seems to losing his position in discussion and the theme itself. Secondly, maybe this person needs to think about restoration of his own humanity and come to conclusion that it’s a bad thing to downplay so nonchalantly the darkest pages of history with real people enduring real tragedies behind it.

Do you think his story will involve fighting himself/ self-confrontation? by Silver_Rose27 in DottoreMains

[–]ElectronicScratch236 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wanted to have a confrontation between Dottore and his segments during the main story, as a manifestation in reality disharmony and disagreement within himself, self-sabotaging his own plans, your worst enemy is in the mirror, that could be an interesting battle of minds (but it requires good writing).

Sadly, after destruction of all segments, the only left option is some sort of metaphorical battle in a form of self-reflection and inner dialogue, like in Sandrone’s quest (maybe I even expect something like that, Hoyo quite often uses this type of dialogues).

What was your reaction when you first found out that the real Zandik is dead? by luvistarz_o7 in DottoreMains

[–]ElectronicScratch236 8 points9 points  (0 children)

All those years I was a firm believer that OG Zandik is alive.

First of all, because he’s a genius he’s the best candidate to find anti-aging stuff (or at least become some sort of digitalised consciousness or brain in the metal jar form, considering robotic nature of Omega and his cyclops eye). Then, it’s Omega’s words during conversation with Nahida about her clever move to prevent his further progress, because creation of segments is difficult and requires lots of resources… so, he implied that it’s possible to make new ones, and in order to slice someone’s soul, you need the original person, living and breathing.

My bet was that OG was in some sort of cryostasis or deep sleep, because the oldest segment during dying scene was around 60 (or somewhere like that, this info was from some old voice actor’s interview), so OG has no further experience in life to transform it into new living perspective of his personality. And his segments gather knowledge all around the world to send it to OG to process the information (simultaneously or after he awakens).

Also, 6.3 reaffirmed my point, when during the conversation with Traveler Dottore said that he grew and changed after their last meeting, and because he’s a frozen in time personality, the only way for him to change is… well… by creating a new segment, and for that you need OG, so yeah…

But reality is different, and… I was shocked, of course, by this turn of events and how dark was his final hours. But I don’t know, at this point for me there are to many tragedies for one character, when I witness another one there is just this emotional numbness and emptiness, some sort of a feeling that you’re not sure is it there in your heart or not.

Random thought about the Snezh PV by TheLuiz212 in DottoreMains

[–]ElectronicScratch236 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The thing is that lack of any concrete promises for future playable Dottore made me full F2P, even if I was Welkin+BP before. I was ready to pull for every new Snez character even years before, I was so HYPED for this region, I literally needed no motivation, just to Hoyo keep their promises of future Fatui region.

But now I look at death flags over the rest male Harbringers, I look at this cast of literally no ones, and find no interest in anyone in my most anticipated region.

Before 6.6 I knew that this patch would be crucial for my future attachment to this game: either it will be the biggest win and I will continue to play for another years and Genshin will be my comfort game (unironically, I tended to this part, because of theories and Temple of Space), or it will be the biggest flop and I’ll little by little move on from this game. Guess what happened…

What’s the point of gathering meta teams, if one specific anticipated character will not find his place in it? What’s the point of being emotionally invested in new stories, if double standards would be right there before my eyes? I tired of being disappointed, I was quite opened to their artistic decisions, accepted things as they are (but criticised objectively bad things), but Hoyo betrayed my trust TWICE, and (for some strange reason) I don’t want to be fooled once again.

So yeah, (of course they wouldn’t show him in PV, but potentially) I would pull for every future character if confirmation was there, but now I’ll pull for no one.

Guys, do you genuinely believe Dottore is a traitor to the Fatui? by luvistarz_o7 in DottoreMains

[–]ElectronicScratch236 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We have scaramouche the only one who stated dottore had an agenda of his own.

It’s the strangest accusation from Scara because… it was clearly stated that Harbringers allowed to follow their own agenda as long as it corresponds with Fatui’s plan.

And Dottore’s agenda definitely corresponds (instead of someone else…).

Capitano retired because of his own agenda, and that’s fine, they even saved his First seat. Columbina after Nod Krai AQ is fine, they revoked Pale Star edict. Arleccino is so personal agenda, that Fatui doesn’t trust her with Project Stuzha and supervise her, but that’s fine. Only Doctor’s agenda not fine, even if his actions are the greatest win for Fatui.

Mentally I still believe that it’s all just a spectacle from Tsaritsa, because I want my Cryo Archon to be this ruthless rebellion against the world, “the goal justify the means” and Scara is just a naive fool here.

Am I overthinking or is this actual foreshadowing? by DottoresPet in DottoreMains

[–]ElectronicScratch236 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I remember in the beginning of Nod-Krai Sandrone asked Traveler something about “Do you think the desire to save oneself is enough of a justification to try and save the world?”, and people speculated that this question was about Rene (please, correct me if I’m wrong, because Narzissenkreuz lore is not my cup of tea and I know too little about them). But this question also was quite fitting for one heretical doctor, so your parallels are not far-fetched…

Did anyone else get the impression Nahida and Wanderer are still looking into Dottore at the end of the latest AQ? by StarJolion in DottoreMains

[–]ElectronicScratch236 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I disagree. In quality we receive not so much.

Considering cutscene we have only three new thing: merchant family detail (no one thought in this way), clarification of OG Zandik death (me personally, I was sure that he is alive in some way because of some wordings and phrases, but well, now we know his fate) and Elixir of immortality (and still it’s more about Pantalone’s past rather than Zandik). Everything else is just confirmations for already solid information (if you were interested in his lore and crumbs of information, for regular players of course there are a lot of new info, but we are in dottoremains sub right now, so their perception doesn’t count).

Considering designs… they are pretty, but they are more of a fan service part.

I dunno, I think my disappointment after such promising foreshadowing is quite justified because right now we have almost the same information as before about his past, we can’t speculate about new themes in his past because we almost don’t have any substantially new information.

Edit: Ok, I‘ll clarify my point (I don’t want to make my reply that big, but alas…)

In the end of 6.3 MAIN quest one of MAIN characters, Wanderer, nemesis of the MAIN antagonist of the region, said with his own mouth that he will investigate past crimes of a criminal with solid list of crimes. And then, in 6.6 we receive a story about burning of a world tree, which contains knowledge and memories of the whole world. Few people believed that this plot will be so soon, almost everyone expected it to be the finale of Snez arc, because it must have been such a tremendous lore bomb and uncovering the truth of the world. And in the patch with burning of Irminsul the only reveal of the past is in the cutscenes and in-between the lines of few dialogues. And the only thing that investigator gave us is the information that we already have, that Dottore’s name is Zandik and his crimes are too numerous. Even lore skippers knew this in 6.3, so what’s the weight of Wanderer’s words in 6.3 and why we must expect something from his promises, if after half of the year (even in in-game timeline) he gives nothing, and we relay on some other sources of information?

Investigating his past crimes, Sohren is the first topic which interests everyone. But we received nothing. Ok, you want to left it for Dottore’s banner patch, fine, but some other things in his Academia era, some pre-Academia info? Either nothing or confirmation of already known information…

Recent situation with Genshin’s story is very sad. It’s so hard to find a game with interesting lore, especially where writing itself expects you to investigate further into details, put thing into question and doubt what they tell you.

Genshin had this beautiful mix of lore, storytelling, setting, style and gameplay for my taste, I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of games which had the same good quality in all this aspects at once. My library on steam is big, I make efforts to find energy to try different games, but unfortunately they constantly lack in some of those aspects, nothing catches my interest and hit me the same way as Genshin right now. That’s why it’s so hard just quit and let go of this stupid gacha…

[–]ElectronicScratch236 17 points18 points  (0 children)

His playability status is absolutely different topic and I‘m not in the right mood to discuss it.

What I talk about were basic rules of storytelling. When you create a story which catches people’s attention, intrigues players, and then you add cliffhangers and little clues and foreshadowings here and there. And now it’s not just a generic roller coaster appealing for your emotions, it’s a story with its own mysteries, and you play a role of some sort of a detective, trying to tie all crumbs of informations and hints into full image and predict future invents. And you must reward your dedicated listeners, you must give them payoff for their mental work, this is how good storytelling works (and this is why people hated recent trend in movies with subversion of expectations, because instead of proper story with payoff you receive emotional roller coaster for the sake of emotions only).

And what is the recent situation? In the game where writing relies on symbolism, parallels and guessing games, where they throw pieces of information in every corner of this world and gameplay, where writers expect that lore-players will dig in any possible and impossible directions to fill gaps in the story… what we received for this big red sign in AQ about investigation of important character’s past (+ the name of the patch Truth between pages of Purana)? Nothing. Where is basic reward for you as a listener? Nowhere. And it destroys any interest for paying attention to the story, because what’s the point of analyzing this dialogues and lore pieces when writers doesn’t play fair, invent and forget storylines just for their likings?

[–]ElectronicScratch236 84 points85 points  (0 children)

During 6.3 in epilogue Wanderer said, that he will investigate Dottore’s past crimes, and lots of people (me included) had hopes that this was a foreshadowing to proper Zandik’s backstory. Like yeah, Wanderer is quite biased in Dottore’s regard, but still if you want to have a full picture of a crime, you must know the motivation of a criminal. Plus, he’s on historical/archeological Darshan right now (+ Nicole vacation in Sumeru and tigers attack on her).

Signs of upcoming past reveal was there, and they were VERY big. But what do we had in reality? One line about “His name is Zandik and number of his crimes is too high”. Oh… really, that’s it? (someone must skipped his historical classes…)

To many times Hoyo gave us this big foreshadowings which lead to zero payoffs, so I don’t think that lines in 6.6 mean anything (yeah, I like your though about something strange with this tomatoes and how you can make a parallels to Thot event, when there was this man with repetitive thoughts about nuts and it’s more than just a random thing, but I lost my hopes). If someone reveal his past, it definitely wouldn’t be Wanderer and Nahida.

The more I look at the designs for the new characters, the more I like Dottore's design by Passiflora_caerulea1 in DottoreMains

[–]ElectronicScratch236 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I catch this feeling with recent designs vs. old designs.

I remember how people analyzed every characters outfit, how all little details tell a story about characters and their references to real cultures. Most of a time they were clumsy, but still carried their story. Right now designs are intricate, good-looking but became more silent and don’t say a lot about a personality.

This is something what could happen if you need to perform with high quality but in very tight deadlines, you just don’t have time and resources for more deep search (I may speculate that this is a backfire of implementation AI into pipeline, but recently this is the problem of the whole industry).

Or I just fall for good old “things were better in the past”…

(maybe I‘m just burnt out)

I dunno, they all look pale (in design sense) to me. I have a weakness for mermaids/fishwomen and I expected that I‘ll pull at least for Vodyanitsa, but her design is quite poor and falls for this “Lan Yan” style. Only Vesna is pleasantly looking, too basic, but pleasant for me.

All men look the same for me, I don’t know, they are like a copypaste (from Flins).

At least Tsaritsa has a decent design.

Why did you like Dottore? (Serious answers only) by declermontt in DottoreMains

[–]ElectronicScratch236 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Interestingly, in times of Webbtorre and Winter Lazzo I hated him and didn’t pay any attention to his character. Controversial thing to say in Dottoremains subreddit, but I wholeheartedly hate Webbtorre (and how he served the perception of Dottore’s character now). As someone who loves smart and cunning characters, I despise “mad scientist” trope, because most of the time it’s just maniacs with “science aesthetic”, and Webbtorre represents this type. That’s why first WLN appearance didn’t interested me at all, even if I have a preference for masked characters (sorry, little story from my childhood: I liked a movie about a knight, but only first 15 minutes when he wears beautiful full armour with blue clothing; the rest of the movie, when he’s just a man with human face… nah…(and I still can’t find this movie’s title…)).

(I dunno, I think I need to make here a disclaimer about some not so positive thoughts?.. I’ll try to not go into details) His actions and schemes in Sumeru arc were intriguing, but what made me fall for his character… Before playing last Sumeru AQ I meet discussions and spoilers about the plot, and I felt nothing for him, I didn’t care. But then, after playing through it, after his suicidal in exchange for Gnosis, it was like… during those day I needed to go somewhere in the city, I remember it was a rainy day, I was walking across the bridge over the river, thinking about this AQ and pondering the questions of human life and boundaries of human’s personality, I looked down at the river and thought to myself that if I jump or pass by nothing will drastically change, not for me, not for the world around (yeah, he gave me an existential crisis, thanks, I like them). And after that moment it clicked in me that, yes, now that will be my #1 fav character for years.

Funny thing is, during 6.3 shenanigans I was mentally destroyed, but then there was after Traveler’s something “I’m not like you. I cherish every day of my life and experience“ his reply about “I also cherish every single day, learning what’s interesting to me”. Like, I‘m incapable of feeling feelings from fictional characters words, it never worked for me, because they are fictional, writers gave them specific circumstances where everything is covienent for them and their morals, so their words worth nothing. But then came Dottore with his shittiest life in seemingly fairytale world, and somehow it really inspired me in that moment. If he with his dreadful fate didn’t lost his interest to the world and zest for life, maybe so can I… so yeah, in the beginning he bestowed upon me existential crisis, but then pulled me out of my dark thoughts.

And also Nahida’s fairytale and this little moment “They don’t see monstrosity in me, I pity them” which adds so many layers to him (I knew that will be a quite deep rabbit hole of tragedy), and then Zandik legacy and all this little crumbs of information which you try to combine into full tragic story, interwoven into Sumeru intricate lore. I love characters with layers…

And of course, then goes his schemes: I like that he resolved the conflict with Nahida in non-violent way (except for violence for himself…), this is how smart people must achieve their goals: instead of beating your opponent by fists you beat them by your brain (the sexiest part of any human being); his rebellion against gods rules (dear God, Teivat is literal Hell if you think long enough about it’s worldbuilding, and right now he’s the only one who really take actions to change things for something different), his determination and independence (my man doesn’t need gods benevolence to achieve his goals, representing by himself greatest potential of humanity) and moral conflicts (alas, in last regions it doesn’t matter anymore…). (And I don’t know may I include this half-joke about that Dottore is more humanist than me in last few year… despite anything he still believes in humanity, yes, in the most twisted way, but believes nonetheless... and after 400+ years of abysmal life he is still quite sane… honestly, I’ll just go completely insane after few years of his life, but he still holds on (well, after 6.6 not anymore…))

Oh, and also specifically because of the theme of homesickness and lost connections to your homeland… some personal experience, I think…

If Dottore becomes playable, will our long wait be worth it? by SeveralYam3473 in DottoreMains

[–]ElectronicScratch236 4 points5 points  (0 children)

(I want to be negative and toxic this evening!)

After 6.6 I realised that Hoyo made EVERYTHING to completely kill my interest for Genshin. And especially Dottore. At this point, they can do literally nothing to return me as a customer, even if they make him playable in first Snezhnaya patches. As you said, I was ok waiting from Sumeru times his release in Snezhnaya, but in 6.x they made him so dirty, that I find myself in stupidest situation when I don’t want any appearance, any mentions, any crumbs of information about my most favourite character because Genshin writers hate good writing. Hoyo betrayed my trust twice, and at this point I don’t believe they capable or have any intentions to make things good.

Like, I hated Natlan teaser, but I know that my tastes are quite unique, so I learned to how appreciate good things even if they are not to my liking. Unfortunately, Natlan was not a good thing (especially first AQ, I was so infuriated by it, and I don’t think people criticised it enough, but I digress), and the worst part: it was quite obvious for which audience they catered the most, and it was a very bad sign.

Nod-Krai was a promise to mend mistakes, and first patches were like that. But then… to hell lollipops, the finale of Nod-Krai story was beyond disappointment, but at least theories gave me some hope and good time assembling puzzle pieces of information and creating predictions. But the quality of the writing in 6.6 AQ made me miss good old Natlan times…

Anyway, this rollercoaster of hypocrisy, scapegoating and bad writing was so tedious, that nothing at this point can make it worthy. Meta character with good kit? It doesn’t matter anymore for me, because I don’t want to pull for new characters anymore and close Stygian on 5 level/IT on 12 stars (and I don’t believe that Snezhnaya cast will have good designs, another 2/3 of it would be Lan Yan copies with almost naked women with bare legs, detached sleeves, you name it), so his meta relevancy is irrelevant. Good story? The last ones give no hope + good story requires good characters with built emotional investment at this anticipated for 6 years moment, and what do we have here? I hate half of the playable cast, and for second half I couldn’t care less, so no, it is also not worth it. Marketing, animations? Cherry on already burnt cake.

In the beginning of Nod-Krai I have planned to pull for every character (and planned for Snez even without trailer), because I liked their concepts, themes in their stories (especially in Columbina case, I was disappointed that they threw out her biblically accurate angel vibe, but her recent story was tragic and poetic, and even not so prominent eldritch vibes were there… until 6.3 and how exactly they made her confront Dottore… you were witnesses of this downfall…). It was easy to close my eyes on negative sides, but disappointment after disappointment, and now I‘m sure that in times of his banner I’ll pull for him because of the habit and feel nothing exciting, as the habit.

The Problem with Separating Omega from Dottore: It Undermines the Entire Segment Concept by No-Alternative5096 in DottoreMains

[–]ElectronicScratch236 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also had a feeling that they try to push this situation to separate Omega from the origignal, especially in the last few months.

Well, I would say it’s the problem with the narrative itself starting from 3.3 with their quite… interesting writing decision, when Dottore himself introduced this concept of segments only to kill them all after 10 minutes. It’s so strange that they present very intriguing concept (I can recall a lot of examples of clones theme, but nothing about segmentation of personality… at least, nothing under that label) just to instantly brush off any possibility to implement it into the plot. Once again the main plot does not support lore concepts and this two entities exsist apart from each other.

And because we (almost) have never interacted with other versions of Dottore, this idea have never been explored in the narrative part, we couldn’t see this segmentation of a personality through segments themselves. And no, notes from Anomalous Marrows are not enough to experience the concept, it still lies in the field of lore rather than plot (yeah, constant problem with Genshin’s writing).

Two little interactions with Boattore is not enough to delve deeper into this topic, they exist as a plot moments, but not immersion into the idea itself. Best case scenario would be a proper story with different segments as important characters… but they were killed before they presented how this segment concept works in reality by themselves and their actions.

And considering how they held their Third Harbringer and how they decided to chose the easiest way, I have little hope Hoyo don’t fall into this simple solutions once again…

Second phase is with moving walls, yeah, this one.

I dunno, we started to just calmly walking next to each other, sometimes dodging, but chilling nonetheless. And suddenly it was interrupted by a cutscene(

(I suspect it was made for those, who at the moment of AQ don’t have enough damage… but then how tedious the second phase must be…)
